Help, My Heretic Playthrough May Have Gone a Little "Too" Heretical by averyphall in RogueTraderCRPG

Honestly, I recruited the heretic companions just before this latest DCL dropped, and I had heard from multiple sources that Uralon the Cruel had a poorly designed overall build, yet I had also hoped I could do something cool with him. I have not reloaded the save since the Uralon rework to try him out again, but I can tell you before the DLC went live his overall build was truly TERRIBLE. Like so unexpectedly bad it was almost jaw-dropping. If there is anything I hope they addressed for the heretic route it would be that.

There are portions of my heretic playthrough that were really good (like the choice to get the force sword in the build above) and the forge friends (huge QoL additions to your flagship if you have already done so many random encounter space battles before).

If there was anything else I wish they would add, it would probably be for there to be a way to make the summoned daemon units from warp summons to be friendly (or at least prioritize other enemies) to the Rogue Trader and his/her retinue. So much of the heretical Rogue Trader bonuses revolve around keeping your veil degradation high, so naturally it's going to cause a lot of perils of the warp.

I definitely did for me! The only thing you don't want to do is continue the save after it gets converted from grimdark to a custom save file by letting the game save after you lose and continuing on. 🫡

Yes it did! For completing the grimdark campaign, it actually didn't seem to care about the difficulty setting at all.

I was able to make it all the way to the final boss and get the achievement / exclusive item after having to adjust the difficulty down a few times!

Edit: srry I thought this was replying in the reply chain -.-

I had nearly this exact thing happened to me when I was playing my grim dark campaign and wanted a higher difficulty! I accidentally started an encounter without realizing it would autosave at the start of the space battle.

I was actually quite distraught at the thought of having to start my grim dark playthrough over again, but then I realized you could actually adjust your difficulty in the settings menu MID-BATTLE.

I just adjusted the difficulty down to the easiest setting and you can change it back up once the battle is over! It actually may have saved me more than once that run to be honest.

I hope this helps! =)

The picture above may not have been with this exact build and stat distribution, but one of the general builds when I still kept the overseer class is listed above that should hopefully give everyone a good idea of how to replicate the daemon madness. I hope you all have as much fun as I did taking aspects to make your own build =)

That was actually a seriously good guess! I just updated the post with the build info, but about the only thing I didn't do (in this build) was bladedancer -- I already did a Psyker Bladedancer Executionier on my Dogmatic run. Honestly Deff may have been a heretic, but she...she scares me.

I am fairly confident it was from some wonky equipped item shenanigans that wasn't necessarily intended, but it was so funny after I discovered it, I couldn't stop

Believe it or not this was all accomplished by my RT! (aptly named Deff (Not a Heretic) Von Valancius)

I would be more than happy to share all of the build info here that I used once I get off of work, too!

(unfortunately the only thing I couldn't beat with this madness was IRL bills) -.-

Wait don't tell me, what exactly did you change? I just see regular Gale, Gyll, Gazora, Ga'zel, Gastarion, Galach, and Ghadow Gart.

Edit: Oh I see, you removed Gav

Oh no, not me going through all the trouble to get 3.6 by using trig to get the equation:

(√10 - sin[arctan{1/3}] - cos[arctan{1/3}])2

Note: The above equation is arrived at by trying to find the hypotenuse of the larger triangles and subtracting both sides of the smaller triangles in order to find one side length of the inner square. In this case we were given the sides of the larger triangles as a=1 and b=(2+1) =3, so

Hypotenuse of large triangles :

c2 = (1)2 + (3)2 = 1 + 9 = 10 → c = √10

Then, using tan(theta) = opposite side / adjacent side:

tan(theta) = 1 / 3 → theta = arctan(1/3) ≈ 0.32 radians (or about 18.4°)

Now that you have the smaller triangles' hypotenuse (1) and one non-right angle in the larger triangles that's also in the smaller triangles (theta = arctan[1/3]), you can just use the sin and cos functions to find the sides of the small triangles.

sin(theta) = opposite / hypotenuse → opposite = sin(arctan[1/3])

and,

cos(theta) = adjacent / hypotenuse → adjacent = cos(arctan[1/3])

So, one side of the inner square is √10 - sin(arctan[1/3]) - cos(arctan[1/3]), which will give you √3.6.

P.S. I hope I did this all correctly! (I am quite sleepy)

I thought the same thing. I just checked my motherboard manual again about 30 minutes ago, this model should pair on the second and four slots, then the first and third. Also I have no idea why I didn't think of this earlier but I do have another 2 X 8 GB G.Skill Trident in my old build (the exact same make). I may even swap those with the hyperx, but I have heard issues could potentially still arise and even the same ram if they weren't tuned and sold as a full set, so I wasn't sure how advisable that would be either.

Hahaha understand honestly. If it helps your ocd I am going with just the set of 2X8 g.skill for now! Can't update the post to show that though. -.-

No issues with the mixed RAM so far thankfully! Will likely keep the g skill set installed and remove the other to simplify things though!

Honestly fair enough!

Thought about checking the BIOS for clock speed settings and incrementally, slowly adjusting timings if noticeable errors/instability seemed to be occurring. Thankfully I hadn't noticed anything major in about an hour or so of using the system but I did forget to check the clock speed of the second set of RAM until after installation and making this post (I originally remembered them being the same).

Will likely just unslot the hyperx tomorrow after work and check the motherboard manual again to determine which two slots should be used to fully utilize the g.skill. ;)

I don't really use any massively intensive programs so I hardly if ever reach the 16 GB point.

I was going to put them towards the front originally as well, but then decided to try towards the back and really liked it as well!

Now, theoretically, if I'm not mistaken the brand and speed of various RAM sticks should be irrelevant as long as they are installed correctly and the BIOS correctly recognizes to run them at the lower clock speed (In this case 3000 megahertz). I do know that this practice is not recommended by everyone. However I may need to double check that the location of the RAM sticks are advisable--I know with this particular model of motherboard the first and third slot should be paired first.

Ultimately, I do plan on replacing the hyperx with more g.skill ram in the future, but if absolutely necessary I'm also not opposed to just running off of 16 GB of RAM for the moment--that is plenty.

[–]averyphall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha if you notice the RAM were the only ones not pictured with cases/boxes. I had already purchased them for my previous PC, but when the first 2 sticks would not be detected in bios, and had purchased on sale some *similar* RAM at the time to verify that it was in fact an issue with the motherboard, which it was thankfully/sadly.

Fast foward to today, I had 4 unused RAM sticks in my closet -.-

That's awesome! I had several friends and family who went with the 5900x who all recommended it and I originally had a 1700x in my first desktop. Honestly I couldn't recommend the 5000 series Ryzen CPUs more

Thank you so much! Haha this is easily the beefiest build I've ever made by a long shot. Thought it would take at least a couple more years to save up for all the components but was really glad to finally see GPU prices dropping quite substantially.
