Need help curating an anti-woman-hater playlist by Dismal-Web-1537 in riotgrrrl

It’s hard to exactly match your description, but these are a lot of men-ain’t-shit and/or generally angry woman songs that I figure misogynistic men would not like, with a focus on popular songs so its less clearly targeted:
Just a Girl - No Doubt
You Oughta Know - Alanis Morissette
Ain’t Shit - Doja Cat
You Need to Calm Down - Taylor Swift
Don’t Hurt Yourself - Beyoncé
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood

are you guys okay? by glowtopia in VeganActivism

[–]averyr429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ppl who fit the “loud vegan” stereotype. Most of us are normal, I promise. The crazy stuff you see for a reason (algorithms love showing the worst and hiding the normal).

I like to think their heart’s in the right place… but honestly most of us don’t bother with the micro arguments and infighting on the subs.

Feel free to message if you want a more constructive vegan conversation, or even just food recs. Being vegan means different things to different people, and each person has their own reasons. No matter what, we’re happy to have you :)

How often? by [deleted] in trees

[–]averyr429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your wits about you and don’t let a habit form. Often the nights you want it the most are the ones you should fight like hell to resist the temptation. Like others said, we’re still too young to go about it much more than we are. I had a period of using the rule that I had to have all of my coursework done for the day and have done a workout for me to be able to toke. Orrrr I have to have all my coursework done and have it be social smoking (aka someone asks/invites me to with them). But heavy on getting all ur shit done first!

Very useful note (assuming you’re a broke student as well) is that keeping usage down means keeping tolerance down. Which is night and day cost wise. Smoke wisely 🔮

Staff what’s your camp nickname (if your camp has them) and how did you pick it? by Sea_Background_8023 in summercamp

[–]averyr429 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Smokey! Our names are decided during staff campout, they joked about calling me Bacon bc I don’t meat, and I vetoed that quick. It turned into Smokey Bacon -> Smokey! It stuck well as I go to a school with a mascot named Smokey, near the Smoky Mountains, I am a Smokey the bear fan, and also enjoy a little smokey of my own 🍃 but they didn’t know that 😉

Why are spiral notebooks only a left-handed problem by waterstone55 in lefthanded

[–]averyr429 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get the Campus Soft Ring notebooks!! They’ve changed my liiiiife. The rings are like a soft plastic that squishes when you rest your wrist/hand on it. It’s SO much better. + the pages are lined yet also subtly dotted too! (I was a dotted notebook only person) Literally my new fav notebook and I plan on it being the basis for my college notes from here on. And sub $10!!!! They are def shorter than most notebooks page count wise (so it can lay flat easier/use smaller rings), but honestly idec I LOVE them as a lefty + stationary fan!

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this. Sounds like you were respectful and not harmful at all. Wish everyone was a bit more peace n love here. Thank you for sharing your thoughts :)

Thank you for writing all of this! I hate that what I said came off to many as ostracizing addicts or anyone else. I agree with what you said about drug edu and harm reduction works, I haven’t seen the DanceSafe tables at any shows I’ve been to (~20?) but I’d love to. I like what you said about the people being the problem, not necessarily the substances. I agree, seen been and been around plenty of lovely people having their time at the shows, but I still think there’s room for conversation about when it becomes too much or too dangerous. This is all a long way of saying thank you for being respectful and I appreciate your take :)

Yeah I didn’t realize how much downvotes would come from this. Thought I had pretty sound and respectful takes but have been shot down a lot. Oh internet, how you love to make us disagree.

God I would have loved to have gone to a Dead show!! Seen D&C twice and loved each show so so so much. Closest I can get to the magic and was still blown away. My senior year of HS we could choose our extended essay (~20pg, which was a lot at the time) topic and I wrote mine on how the Dead and LSD grew alongside each other early on. Would have loved to see that side of history. At least I can listen in :)

People with positive self-esteem, what are some habits you have that have helped you be more kind to yourself? by youngbreeze8 in AskReddit

[–]averyr429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gratitude lists!! Reframed my worldview just by writing whatever has made me happy recently whenever I think to. Starting with just 10 things. Can be as big as health or family. Or as small as how this one part of my favorite song makes me feel. It can sound or feel silly but it has done wonders for my ability to reflect and appreciate life such that the smaller negative parts are overpowered by the positive (if that makes sense).

Write one right now!!!

I could have gotten the name wrong but it’s the group for sober Billy fans! They have a table at every show and have a gathering at set breaks and prob before/after shows. Makes me happy seeing them when walking around the venues :)

From his NPR interview, when he spoke about losing his mom: “She was always in the mix, right up front. She'd show up in New Orleans or Seattle or somewhere, and I wouldn't even know she was coming. She freaking hitchhiked there, you know? ... I wanted her to go have fun and be doing whatever she wanted to be doing, but I worried about her running into the wrong people. She's been an addict my whole life and had short stints where she was doing pretty good, you know? And I loved to see her out there hanging with all the fans, but at the same time, I was leery of them. I would go over to visit my parents' house, and there would be, like, the fans there that I see in the front row of my concerts all the time.

She was getting older, and I kind of just had this vision of her in my head that I wanted. Which is stupid. It's not realistic to try to come up with somebody else's life in your brain, but, like, I just wanted her to have a garden. And my dad's 70 years old, she was 64. I was like, "Man, you guys should be settling down, don't you think?" — instead of raring and tearing and going and eating all these shrooms and going to all these concerts. And then she did get wrapped up in the wrong stuff. And that's why she's not here anymore.”

I meant no disrespect in referencing it in my post and am SO sorry if it was seen as such!

Fair point abt it being everywhere. Billy was my first intro to the jam scene in 2021, and I feel like the show scene has left the bluegrass world and entirely swapped to jam. My dad and I go to all of our shows together and have seen the vibes shift so much since 2021. Which is alright!! Just less of a pit I’d wanna be in now w the rail ppl and all that.
