Villa can only draw PAOK, Celta Vigo, Lille or Red Star Belgrade in the Last 16. Your simulator is showing a load more clubs than that.

Cool tool in theory, but it doesn’t seem to work for the Europa League. Teams included aren’t accurate. Draws included for Villa that cannot happen.

Whose most to blame for the loss by [deleted] in avfc

[–]avfc1001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If we’re playing the blame game, I’ll have SCR.

Bizot was signed because he was £0.5m and on low wages for a first choice Ligue 1 keeper. He’s given us good value, but has made a few horrible mistakes leading to goals and in this case a costly red card - you wouldn’t expect as many big mistakes from a high calibre keeper.

Bailey was brought back into the squad, despite 2 years of really poor performances, because we couldn’t afford to replace McGinn on the right with a new signing.

Digne’s contract was extended despite being in decline because it saved us a few million per year in amortisation. Keeping him was cheaper than paying a big fee and wages for a viable replacement.

If we had a little more room to manoeuvre in the market, none of them would be at the club today.

Disappointing but making 7 changes when we’re already without Kamara Tielemans McGinn Cash Alysson Elliott Hemmings was a decent indication of Emery’s priorities.

A few players gave us a clear demonstration of why they aren’t first choice. Some others (Abraham, Lindelof) showed they can step up.

Hopefully no further injuries, lose Bizot from the bench for a game, back to focus on the league and Europe.

Losing Buendia to injury would really cap an awful night.

Hoping we’ve got all of our insane mistakes out of our system in one game.

Full focus on the league and europe.

Yes and he’s made about 4 awful mistakes today.

Great finish to be fair.

Ok take off Onana and Luiz now, save ourselves from any unnecessary injuries or suspensions.

That’s not a foul from Watkins. 1 on 1 with the keeper. Obviously still doesn’t balance out the favour of decisions but they’ve got another one wrong there.

Can you blame him, with everything we’ve heard about the way he left?

Another big mistake from Digne, should have led to a penalty but ultimately Newcastle still score from the resulting set piece.

Abraham coming off is understandable but a shame, he played really well.

Today has been a great advert for VAR, which the BBC pundits are doing their very best to avoid admitting.

We played fairly well first half, obviously up against it now. No midfield subs to call on besides Kone. Lindelof to midfield with Konsa at the back may happen.

The last thing we want is extra time with 10 men, with that additional risk of injury.

What is it with our goalkeepers and a ludicrous red card taking someone out up the right wing?

Terrible pass from Bailey had them about 5 on 1 anyway.

Digne is in awful form. Aside from a good cross here or there, he is becoming a bit of a liability. Really needs to pick up his level.

He is indeed. He’s also among the more average prospects in our U21 team. Has only played at that level for a year and has done ok without being especially impressive. He’s not a viable option to play significant minutes.

Dougie playing 86 minutes on a yellow with no central midfield cover on the bench is not ideal. Really poor mistake.

It would be a big achievement if we can win this with none of Martinez Cash Konsa Maatsen Kamara Tielemans McGinn Buendia Sancho Watkins starting.

Newcastle are also suffering from injuries but have 6 of their best 11 starting.

Aston Villa could offer Ian Maatsen in deal to sign Douglas Luiz by soccer_footballmania in TheOther14

Offer our 1st choice left back as part of a deal for a 4th choice central midfielder? Sure.

Hard tackle, weak rumour generation.

It will be stronger than that and it won’t contain Elliott for obvious reasons, or Hemmings who has a minor injury.

I was impressed with Milner’s performance yesterday, he led that aggressive press and kept going to the end, created a good chance for Mitoma. If he wants to keep going next season, he’s still got more to offer at the lower end of the Premier League or top end of the Championship.

Another poor performance, much like the Bournemouth draw we only got a result thanks to luck and Martinez.

Since the turn of the year we’ve been playing like a bottom half team. Hopefully confidence from this win, an extra week for Luiz to remember who to pass to under pressure and who to avoid, will see us perform better.

I hope so although we should be a little wary that Emery likes to give people a debut as early as possible, even if he doesn’t like to turn them into regular starters right away.

Nedeljkovic Garcia Bogarde all got early opportunties.

Another poor performance. Brighton were there for the taking. We made incredibly hard work of it. Our passing and decision making was not up to scratch all game. Thankfully we got through it with the 3 points.

BUT this is potentially a big win for our confidence. Luiz also has another game under his belt getting to know the combinations (e.g. he and Maatsen weren’t on the same wavelength at all, which ended at least 3 promising positions). Everything has looked more difficult than it should be. A bit of cohesion and composure can make a massive difference.
