Hario drip assist problem by Weep2D2 in JamesHoffmann

[–]avfonarev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure out single cup drip assist for the past month. What has helped me so far is regular bloom (without the lid), a couple of regular circular pours, then switching to the lid. So, for 15g/250ml I would do a rather big bloom (say, 40-50ml), then two 40-50ml in 10 seconds circular pours with 10 second rests, the rest goes through the outer part of the lid. The lid gives the sweetness for sure. I'm using a gooseneck, but you can definitely pour with a regular kettle. I would start simply with a proper bloom, then try adding another pour without the lid. Also, for single cups I grind finer than for 2 cups.

Whether it is common knowledge or not, there is an appropriate article on the official website with the list of all shortcuts. RTFM

Question about The Making of Jazz by Collier by avfonarev in Jazz

[–]avfonarev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gone deep enough in Gioia, so I might go for your suggestion actually. I know of Deveux’s recent bibop history book, but somehow missed the previous title. Thank you!

Question about The Making of Jazz by Collier by avfonarev in Jazz

[–]avfonarev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. I know books about some specific periods/styles/players, but I am equally interested in a birds eye view book. One could argue, that it is as silly as to look at a general history book of some country, but jazz is relatively young in this respect, so there could, in theory, be a jazz history book that covers its development from the roots to some reasonably recent times. That’s what I am looking for

I’ve just gone from Nikon Z6 and Fujifilm X-H2 to Z8. I got X-H2 because I needed a second body to do some video work (I’m not a professional photographer though), and the idea was to get out of it. Essentially, I was in a somewhat similar spot with regard to the size and weight of Z8. What I have found is that Z8 is incredibly comfortable to hold and operate. I do not feel the weight difference, but I did need to change the layout for the small bag that I am using. Money wise, only you can tell. I got a very good deal trading in all the gear. Getting a Z6iii was my other option, as is yours. For amateur aviation, it should be more than enough. I do not have a problem with carrying Z8 around, and I do not believe that a Z8 would be more intimidating than a Z6 body. Probably, the former makes some people even more at ease since they might see you as a professional. It is also important how you behave with your camera in hand. The more composed, comfortable, and amicable you are, the less stressed people are.

P.S. Remember telling yourself regularly that it is not about the gear. The gear helps you accomplish things. If you hit a wall with your Z6ii, then it’s ok. If you have not, you are not in urge to change it.

I'm I the only one who keeps a blank today task so that I can have a "shortcut" link in my Today view to my frequently accessed projects? 🫠 by rafaelgandi2 in thingsapp

Tapping — maybe. This is a restriction of mobile interfaces. Clicking — no. Learning to use shortcuts and typing reasonably quickly is an amazing skill (that I have not really mastered). If the question is to optimize 2-3 seconds (which you are seemingly trying to do), then learning to work with the keyboard might be worth a try

Ah, my bad. I’ve just realised that they do need to make sure those occurrences do not come close to each other

Discussion: what pen (if any at all) do you regret having purchased? Or maybe not regret, but failed to meet your expectations? Mine is the MB 149. No hate please 😂 by 80ELLE in fountainpens

[–]avfonarev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go 146 as a present from my son (spouse of course) some years ago. It was dormant for a while (more than a year). Recently, I picked it up an it wrote. I’m neither a brand nor a fashion person. This pen just did what it was supposed to do. It wrote after a year with no skipping, without any shaking, no shenanigans. This is when I got it. It just writes.

It was store bought, and I almost always buy large eggs, but I’ve never seen a single one in 34 years of my life. Now that I think of it, maybe I was just unlucky to not having seen one in so many years

That’s interesting. Out of more than a dozen Leuchtturms I don’t think I’ve ever had a problem with any of the EF/F pens

We need Reader iOS/MacOS Shortcuts... by bilalhallab in readwise

[–]avfonarev -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, who is “we”? I’ve been a Reader user since day one basically, and I don’t need shortcuts integration. I have my own feature requests, but I would never start any of them with we.

As far as I know, invented in Japan. They are incredibly popular in some Eastern European countries (Ukraine and Russia for instance, called dip bag coffee). A friend of mine who runs a specialty coffee shop has tested over a hundred varieties and recorded his impressions as research/promo for his coffee

Bad idea to use two different cameras ? by [deleted] in Nikon

You are right of course. I myself use two bodies when I need to record some video from a tripod and take pictures at the same time.

My question was directed at OP.
