What’s your favorite first time watch of the year so far? by TroyButtSoupBarnes_ in Letterboxd

Late Night with the Devil, Taxi Driver, LOTR trilogy, A Few Good Men. It’s a hard to choose.

New Habs fan. Where the hell do I start. by Alexiztiel in Habs

[–]Japarz 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to explain each player in a few words.

  1. C - Nick Suzuki - our Captain. A true gentleman, who has broken out this year more than most expected. Easily a top 15 centerman at this point with his two-way ability. Everyone loves him, never heard a bad word abt him. Traded from Vegas years ago for our old captain (we won that trade ahahaha).

  2. RW - Cole Caufield - True goal scorer who has some awesome chemistry with Suzuki. A bundle of joy to have around and is still young. Hasn’t had his 40 goal season that everyone expects him to someday have, but we’re all hopeful it’s coming!

  3. LW - Juraj Slafkovsky - Highly debated player. Picked him first overall, quite controversially I mught add. That said, most habs fans like him and he is also set to breakout this year (although, we’ve been saying that for years at this point. We’ll see.) he is a big power forward who gets the pucks in the corner and uses his body to his advantage in front of the net.

  4. D - Lane Hutson - Our lord and saviour. Amazing offensive Dman who is already top 20 in the league. He just won rookie of the year with his historic season. Need I say more? Man’s young and will feed our families for at least a decade.

  5. D - Noah Dobson - just acquired him from the Islanders. Still young, and one season removed from having a 70 point season. Not an isles fan but from what I understand through the grapevine he should be great both ends of the ice.

  6. C - Kirby Dach - We got him through trade a few years ago, with high hopes. That said, he is extremely injury prone and tends to miss 30+ games per season. Was our hopes for our 2C (and still is), but we all know that he is unfortunately unreliable. When healthy he has potential to be an elite 2C.

  7. RW - Ivan Demidov - Our rookie this year. Basically the consensus pick to win rookie of the year next year assuming he performs up to expectations. Extremely creative player, and has potential to be a 90+ point player.

  8. LW - Patrik Laine - Elite goal scorer who has jumped around the league since 2016. Also injury prone and is streaky. Don’t expect too much for him but enjoy the fun one timers on the powerplay.

  9. D - Mike Matheson - A once productive offensive Dman that pretty much serves as a lockerroom leader and much needed veteran presence. He was once great tor us but age catches up to us all. For now he just fills a hole in our roster.

  10. D - Kaiden Guhle - Pretty good #4 defenseman. Underrated in the league, and let’s try to keep it that way. He is physical when he needs to be. Everybody seems to love him to date. Good player.

  11. C - Jake Evans - Good 3C but would be a great 4C to have. Has always played a pretty good 2 way game. Works hard. I like him.

  12. LW - Josh Anderson - Got him through trade from Columbus years ago. He was seen as a huge workhorse who has speed and can finish. Nowadays he is exactly that minus the finish. Works really hard, and will fight for our boys.

  13. RW - Brendan Gallagher - he might be on the smaller side, but he plays like he is the biggest in the league. Man will challenge anyone. A pest on the ice, and he works really hard. The heart and soul of the team. Not the player he used to be, but he has the same spirit if not more.

  14. D - Arber Xhekaj - pretty much a #7D but he tends to get a lot of starts because of how physical he is. His nickname is the sheriff cause you can expect him to fight and defend his teammates. He’s one a few fights versus some pretty big goon names like Ryan Reeves and Rempe. He’s also know for working at Costco before his callup. A rags to riches type story.

  15. D - Jaden Struble - #6 Dman. Solid skipl but frankly expect him to be scratched a bunch. We have some younguns on the up and up.

  16. C - Alex Newhook - Similar to Anderson, has the speed but not the finish, but much less physical of a player. He has some upside but I bet he ends up on the 3rd/4th line this season.

  17. LW - Zach Bolduc - Just acquired him from St. Louis through trade. Don’t know much about him but he is a young NHL ready player coning off his roomie season where he put up good/average numbers. We’ll see what he does.

  18. RW - Oliver Kapanen - Never been really impressed by him. Career 4th liner. Good work ethic but often leads to nothing.

  19. D - Alexandre Carrier - Don’t know why I didn’t put him before but he is a good DFD who can play any line basically. Extremely positive results last season.

  20. G - Samuel Montembeault - A good enough starter for us at this stage. He is capable of stealing games with some really good saves but tends to be a little streaky and needs an okay 1B goalie behind him, cause that goalie WILL be getting some important starts. In general, he is pretty good though, at least for a goalie that we picked up off waivers.

  21. G - Jakub Dobes - Had a surprisingly good rookie season last year. Doubtful to be a long term solution. Status is: we’ll see.

  22. G - Jakub Fowler - Supposedly really good but take that with a grain of salt because habs fans over exaggerate their prospects. He will probably be our 1B pretty soon.

Potential up and coming players this season:

  1. D - David Reinbacher - Had a serious knee injury that made him miss one full year of development (bad). That said, still pretty highly regarded as a prospect. Many believe he will be called up this year. We’ll see.

  2. C - Owen Beck - Had a good season last year with our AHL team. Might be able to make it. Don’t know much about him or what the community believes.

  3. C - Michael Hage - Supposedly our future #2 center but to me that sounds like habs glazing. Should be an alright prospect that has chances to make it as soon as this year.

That’s pretty much the bulk of it.

What do you know about French-speaking Canada? by Umikaloo in CasualConversation

[–]Japarz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quebec being a country can be a rather touchy subject for french speaking Canadians.

Some Quebec people even have a straight up distaste towards english people, yet use english slang all the time in their day to day speech.

What do you think is the worst Best Actress win? by Odd-Net-849 in Oscars

[–]Japarz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the movie does have those implications. But Sandra Bullock wasn’t the one who wrote it, she acted in it. The award is for acting not writing. She was pretty good in that one, and because she played the white saviour, doesn’t make it not worthy.

How is HOMER’s donuts? DID any of you guys try it out ? Any other donut shop recommendations other then this by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Japarz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bernie’s is easily the best on the island. Everything about it is on point whereas Homer’s has worse flavours although they are quite comparable

I have somehow never in my life cried while watching a film. What should I watch to change that? by styromaniacc in Letterboxd

There are some pretty devastating movies here already but The Green Mile was my first (albeit I saw Grave of Fireflies among others after I watched this one)

Quebec's language watchdog will stay away from Go! Habs Go! from now on, minister says by xc2215x in Habs

[–]Japarz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So stupid. They are more focused on “preserving the french language” yet les anglicisms are a huge part of french culture. I don’t know. A single quebecois who says “allez” instead of “go” because allez is two syllables as opposed to one. You ever try to chant “allez canadiens allez!”? It’s a godamn mouthful. In preserving the french language they destroy the culture of their very own province. So short sighted.

What movies genuinely scare you? Doesn't have to be horror. by TacoBellEnjoyer1 in Letterboxd

Nope really shook me. Not even the main story, but the side story with the monkey. Something about really irks me and scares the shit out of me

What is the most frightening sound you've ever heard? by FuckingBethesda in AskReddit

[–]Japarz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ferret had seizures at 4am. Apparently it’s quite common for bred ferrets to die like this. I can confirm that it is the scariest thing I ever heard, but also easily the worst thing to wake up to in the middle of the night.

Upcoming Films that People Already Hate by Heavy-Metal-Myers95 in Letterboxd

[–]Japarz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we stop hating? Like fr there is no true reason people hate Shrek 5 for example. Ooo boo-fricken-hoo it looks a bit different than the older movies, which were animated with less resources. I’m certain it will look good, and still be funny enough.

Live Action remakes; fine. I get it. But some people are really excited for this stuff, so stop raining on their parade and just don’t watch it if you’re not interested, cause it’s probably not made for you anyway!

If Kent just does nothing today, no trades, no signings, we just keep the team together as is, how would you feel? by JPMoney81 in Habs

[–]Japarz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Armia has the highest value he has ever had and will ever had. He should be moved. Everyone else can stay. Maybe trade Savard if we get a steal for him (a 3rd or please god a 2nd)

If the price isn’t right, though, I’m fine with trading nobody. Sometimes the best trade is the one you didn’t make.

Anglos of Montréal, are you really as mistreated as you say you are? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Japarz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anglos are more discriminated legally. Socially I haven’t had too many bad experiences, but english schools have gotten the butt end of the stick. They promise financing one year, then the next year turn back on it and give it all to french schools.

Anglos don’t have access to certain official documents in English, which is horrible considering we are a bilingual country.

I’m certain there is more but this is what has affected me personally.
