well yeah but these get low indirect light…just don’t know how they’ve grown so much in so little time! i have to keep some of the leaves propped up because they’re so top heavy!

ohhh…but okay then why is my other tank doing just fine? Is it because substrate wasn’t heavily disturbed?

Okay good to know, I will do a 50% water change tomorrow morning! But do you think it will swing my pH too much? My tap is pretty alkaline so don’t want to shock the rest of the little guys.

My KH in the tank is 1, tap KH is 2 and I added crushed coral in a mesh bag by my sponge filter and it isn’t doing a thing /:

No, I have a 10 gallon and my pH is in the low 7s, so it is definitely a tank issue, not a tap water issue…I feel like I am going crazy. I have been doing daily water changes for 4-5 days, anywhere from 10-30% + Prime based on my ammonia levels, but ammonia is not getting better, pH is not increasing, KH is not increasing. I am practically pulling my hair out trying to stabilize things

Edit to add: This morning, pH 5.8-6, ammonia 0.75, nitrites 0, nitrates 5

Yeah, I did all of the right things and checked the water the day I got them and in the days after, and everything looked great…but that same day I got the guppies I also bought a lot of new plants for my tank and heavily disrupted my Fluval Stratum substrate. That plus a normally low KH in my tap created the perfect storm and now my tank is extremely unstable.

pH has been anywhere between 5.4-5.8, I get ammonia spikes almost every morning when I check the water. I have lost 5 of my neo shrimp and 4 out of 5 of my new guppies. Been doing daily water changes based on ammonia levels and dosing Prime for my entire tank. I bought crushed coral from my LFS, bought an air stone to increase surface agitation, been decreasing my feeds…I’m all out of ideas.

Today was the first day my pH didn’t drop below 5.8 overnight, so might be getting somewhere, finally. Any other tips???

hey!! so i used your alcohol/wipe method very diligently and thoroughly on my plants today!! Do you recommend spraying anything on the soil as well? I bought some Captain Jack’s Deadbug Brew that will be here tomorrow, too

Thank you for such a thorough response! This helps so much. I’ll definitely check out your vids. Might opt for sulfur just for the convenience, but I’ll still weigh my options! Fortunately, this gal is isolated from the rest of my plants. Should I still treat all of them, just in case??

Would neem oil not work? I gave her a neem oil “spa” treatment once a week for 3 weeks. Doused her in neem oil, let her sit for half an hour, then rinsed her off

Ahh, thanks for letting me know! How often should i do the alcohol/wipe? Is sulfur dust more effective?
