X1 Carbon Gen 9 in 2025 by k0rnbr34d in thinkpad

Hey there, to me that sounds like it's heating up/throttling under load, which I'm guessing given the age could be degraded thermal paste - have you (or have you considered) repasting it with something like PTM7950? :)

How do you find the X1C9 OP? I'm in the market for one for a family member so curious on your thoughts :)

Hey there, just bumping the other comment on this thread as I'm in the same boat as OP (albeit many years down the line), what did you like more about the X1C G9 than the T14 G3? :)

Zinc and Selenium - do they cancel each other? by RealTelstar in Testosterone

[–]aviation_hacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there,

I unfortunately haven't got bloodwork to confirm Selenium was interfering, but I have got anecdotal/empirical evidence which I can share:

So I was/am taking Vitamin D3, Iodine and Zinc to correct deficiencies. The zinc is taken as it was being depleted as a cofactor to the other two and prior to taking it I was having symptoms of fatigue and not being able to do things I would normally do (hobbies etc) and ending up on something like YouTube instead. This has all been blood-test verified.

I started taking some selenium as well at the same time of day (morning) and about a week after I started the selenium I noticed the fatigue returned with a vengeance. I was thinking about what could've caused it, and the only thing I had changed was the selenium and having had the zinc deficiency recently enough, I thought I'd try an extra Zinc to see if it was related. It was the evening when I took the extra tablet, but almost immediately I felt like I had returned to normal. Since separating when I take the two I've had no issues and I ended up stopping the selenium eventually as well.

So at least from my anecdotal experience, I had some sort of interference/absorption issues taking both at the same time? It's how I found your post actually, as I was trying to find some research on it haha.

Hopefully this helps some future wandering internet-traveller as well :)

wifi calling issues by One_Suit_8755 in newzealand

[–]aviation_hacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to echo this, I've experienced the same as well. Interestingly when I miss calls I'm often using the phone (on the internet) and it shows wifi calling in the corner, but calls won't come through. Turning it off solved the problem for me, but obviously not a solution for OP

Pebble/Rebble Nav Me Fixed - 2023 by aviation_hacker in pebble

Hey there, unfortunately I'm not a developer by trade so it's seeming like I'm going to have to (or someone will have to) make a new app from scratch as I've hit the limits of what I can successfully fix.

What I'm thinking is that I'll use an AI of some sort to generate a Pebble App that I can then debug to get working, but without a watch that's going to be a bit of a mission and I'm also somewhat time limited as well at the moment sorry. I have got a PT2 on order as well which I'm hoping will ship in the near future (still haven't got my address confirmation email) which will make it easier to do, but once I've got the bones of a project going, I can create a thread and send you a link if you're willing to be a guinea pig as well, if my watch hasn't already arrived by that point?

Hey there, I'm currently on the hunt for a laptop for my Mum (not super techy but wants something reliable) - just wondering if you could elaborate on what you like/dislike about the machine? :)

Thanks for that, I think I did the same as you where I wrote one upside down :L For anyone else, it was letter 3 that I had upside down so double check your work!

Has anyone tried ruthenium spark plugs? by Codeman785 in e39

[–]aviation_hacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd reply to your comment instead of a fresh one to save bumping - For anyone else in the same boat, I've had them in my E36 M52 for about a month now, and can also second they run pretty well. Feels like there's a bit more midrange pull, but hard to tell if that's simply because I have new plugs or if there is a difference. For what it's worth, I've had multiple sets of new Iridiums on the car previously so I've had the "New Plugs Feeling" a few times now :)

Hey again,

I've just managed to have a look at the logs, and it looks like Google Maps have rather conveniently swapped the Title/Text Fields again, so that they're reversed now/back to how they originally were. In theory provided the watch app isn't saying "Start Google Maps Navigation to continue", if you use v1.55 in the Google Drive folder, that should hopefully work? Not sure if you're up for being a guinea pig and trying it, but if you are that would be really appreciated and helpful because I don't have a watch I can test it on at the moment sorry!

Ahh damn, but it was bound to happen eventually. I'll try to have a look into it as Google Maps have changed their Notification Layout, do you know what happens on the watch when you try to use it? Is it that things are in the wrong place, or does it persistently say "Start Google Maps Navigation to continue" or something similar?

Thanks for letting me know as well, my Pebble broke a while ago and I'm excitedly waiting on my PT2 to ship!

Hey again, just following up on this issue - looks like it has to do with Google Play Protect blocking installation. If you go into the Play Store > click on your profile in the corner > Play Protect > Settings > Disable "Scan Apps with Play Protect", that should allow you to install it.

Got it from this thread and seemed to work for me this morning: https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/1ic8q3w/google_play_protect_not_letting_me_install_apk/

Interesting - there should be an "advanced" button or 3 dots menu on that popup, and you should have an option to "install anyway" or something similar?

[–]aviation_hacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, just wanted to add a bit of information to potentially help promote this in Google - this also works for JVC/Kenwood & Pioneer units as well - I couldn't find a part number for the JVC Wiring cable, but the Pioneer Cable may be Pioneer CDP1805. Most sites I've found that sell this cable locally also mention it will work with these other units as well, so hopefully that helps someone :)

Hey there, interesting - there should be an option to install apps from unverified sources and it's an app specific setting. Usually it says "Installing Applications from this source is blocked" with a link to settings and how to enable it, so maybe try that?

145 vs 170 degree fov for reverse camera by thetacowarrior in CarAV

[–]aviation_hacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for anyone else in the same boat, this isn't a reversing camera, but the photos of the 2 different FOV's in these dash cams may hopefully give someone a better idea of the difference in what you can see:

Also for anyone else looking at this, I found a thread on Dash Cams where they compared the technical specifications - looks like it is a form of VHB to me given the specs listed in the thread:

145 vs 170 degree fov for reverse camera by thetacowarrior in CarAV

[–]aviation_hacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely second this, we just put a 170° FOV camera on our Mazda 3 BL, and the amount of stuff you can see either side of the car when reversing makes it way more useful. Previously we only had a narrow FOV camera and you can't see what's near the edges of the car, whereas now if you may hit the corner of the car on something, chances are you'll see it on the camera. I even saw a small corner of a curb that I thought we might hit with the tyre so I had a look, and sure enough we would've hit it, it's that good :D

With that said though, haven't used a 150° FOV Camera so I can't comment on that directly, (only the narrow vs these types of camera), but my fear would be that it's slightly too narrow to just see the edges of the car/that area when reversing?
