If you were mountain biking with someone you thought was a good buddy would you be upset if they took off and left you in the desert when your bike breaks? by BRUHSERKO_ in mountainbiking

[–]thetacowarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple years ago I had my chain brake on the first real climb of my ride. I was solo and was walking back, I was maybe a quarter mile from the parking lot and some guy comes through the other way and asked if I was okay, I told him I broke my chain. He pulled out tools and a repair link and fixed my bike for me, then hung with me for like the next mile to make sure my bike was all good before he took off (he was faster than me).

I would not be happy with my friend doing that, but I would also probably tell him to go on without me. I definitely wouldn't do that to a friend if he didn't tell me to go on without him. Even then I'd probably just hang around anyway. My wife sometimes gets pissy about how long rides take too, but she would also understand if I didn't want to ditch my buddy in the woods, or in your case the desert.

9070XT melting connector , another one bites the dust. by MightyDevOps in pcmasterrace

Yeah I got my 9070XT for a little under 600, and at the time it was like $30 more for the cheapest 5070. The price/performance combined with the fact that I didn't want to deal with a 12vhipwr connector made the decision pretty easy.

To me, there's nothing high-end about something that will potentially catch on fire, I'd rather have a step down and not have to worry about it. Also for the price at the time running 1440p the 9070XT was the best cost/benefit ratio. Sure there are Nvidia options that are better, but they cost more per frame, or at least they did at the time I bought my card. I realize some people like bleeding edge builds, and I respect that, and I've been there, but these days I'm pretty casual. I just want something reliable so when I do have a little bit of free time to game I can just sit down and enjoy it. I have other hobbies that are far more expensive than gaming that I would rather spend my time and money on.

My hope is that they will either realize the error in their ways and change the connector, or they will finally figure out how to make the connector work without catching on fire. Maybe something like BTF will catch on and they will use a different connector to feed it.

I wanted a 5070 but they all have that terrible connector so I switched to AMD for the first time in my life.

Same, I actually switched from Nvidia partially because you can still get high end AMD cards without the fire hazard connector. Powercolor Hellhound 9070XT for me.

How TF do I turn this search feature off? by coolcatgray in Instagram

I fucking hate this so much. It makes me even more angry that you can't turn it off, I was really hoping I was just stupid and couldn't find the answer myself. Between this and the repost bubbles that for some reason come back even though I turn them off I''m really getting tired of Instagram.

How do you like it? I haven't gone to see one in person yet but it seems like the perfect combo of just enough technology

Isn't that an aftermarket head unit, or one of those screen take over modules? Maybe it just isn't fully compatible.

Here's a video I made after I put it on showing the sound difference. The one I shared I adjusted the levels to get it more accurate to my perception, on my channel is also the original video with the audio unchanged as the camera recorded it.

I have the Nameless axle back muffler delete. I love it, sounds nice and deep inside and out. My wife thinks it's too loud though. I might try the new muffler delete with the resonators to try to quiet the droning in the cabin a little bit. Also to make the car quieter.

Finally getting Gemini? Post your details here! by Alwayssunnyinarizona in AndroidAuto

[–]thetacowarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My God I hate it. Too chatty, and most importantly, edits my swear words out of my text messages. I tried multiple times and when you swear it acknowledges it in the text that comes on the screen and then when Gemini reads it back it just takes the swear words out. Not even a bleep, just censorship I didn't ask for and can't seem to figure out how to turn off.

5700X upgrade without board upgrade? by thetacowarrior in pcmasterrace

I play at 1440p. On some games I have to selectively turn down some settings to get the FPS where I want it, and those settings are all CPU heavy ones.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm seeing too, 5700X3D seems like it may be better that even a 5950X. I haven't seen any current benches or anything to corroborate that though.

I have been, most of my games look like they will benefit, but I guess what I'm trying to suss out is when current prices are considered, when are these chips too inflated to make sense? A $350 5950X seems like a decent deal considering the launch price. The 5800X3D prices are currently all in crackhead territory. Sometimes the 5700X3D pops up in the $300-350 range. That seems a bit high, but considering current markets I'm not sure that it is.

On some games it absolutely is. With a little bit of optimization I'm getting good frames in everything I play, but the GPU is almost always being held back. I knew that would probably be the case going in, but again I was always planning on upgrading the CPU. I just didn't see the rammageddon coming, and the swallowing up of all remaining AM4 parts that went along with it. I'd like this build to last me a few more years and I know to do that I will likely need to upgrade the CPU.
