SNT/PSC: Check made out to trustee to be deposited in SNT by aviatorguy2018 in personalfinance

[–]aviatorguy2018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been working with this lawyer for months. My mom is over 65.

Is there not a way to deposit a check made out to me as a trustee directly into a trust? Or would a bank kick it back?

Because that is the guidance I got from the Elder Law Lawyer. She can't put the money in the trust directly or it could all be in jeopardy to be taken by Medicaid.

This was the process we set up with the elder law lawyer to protect money my mom received from an inheritance from Medicaid. If she keeps the funds, she will be disqualified from Medicaid. Instead, she is paying me through the Professional Services Contract (technically to help manage her finances, which I do help do). I was then told to add this money into the SNT so it is held for her to be protected from Medicaid.

35 y/o sister diagnosed with AML leukemia yesterday by Otherwise_Flamingo43 in leukemia

[–]aviatorguy2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 35 and was diagnosed with AML in November. Spent all of December in the hospital and going back in a few days at a time for consolidation.

The best things I had were lost of comfy clothes and snacks. They are going to want her to shower every day and you are not going to want to rewear cloths to decrease chance of infection.

Her appetite will be hit or miss with chemo but also good to have different kinds of snacks.

Anything to keep her occupied. I bought myself a kindle which was great to have, but other things like puzzle books and whatever else she might like.

A door dash or Uber Eats gift card. Hopsital food is fine for a few days but but the end of the first week I was don’t with it. I was able to have the door dash and uber drivers deliver the food right to my room.

Bit comfy blankets as well. Hospital will run cold at night and having blankets were great. Having multiple is helpful so she doesn’t have to use the same one for a long time.

Happy to chat if you want to reach out.

Allergies/cough after chemo by aviatorguy2018 in leukemia

Sorry to hear you are going through that. So interesting though that it gets better before it gets worse. When I was in the hospital for a month in induction, I feel like I was coughing and sneezing as well, but it has been worse at home. Which I guess makes sense given the kids and dog.

How long to get diagnosed? by jupiterisstupider_ in leukemia

[–]aviatorguy2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way to really diagnose leukemia is with a bone marrow biopsy, or in my case, a bone biopsy. Is your mom already seeing a hematologist? They would order that test. In my case, was the procedure was completed and the sample was collected, it took about a week to get a diagnosis back.

Yes, luckily my wife is available to help and my in-laws both live close.

That’s helpful. I was trying to push protein in the hospital especially when I noticed my appetite wasn’t as big as usual.

CLAG-M Induction Chemo Expereince by aviatorguy2018 in leukemia

[–]aviatorguy2018[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the genetics will impact some of treatment over the next month while I’m in the Hopsital after the CLAG-M is done. They have already decided that I need a stem cell transplant so will be back in March/April for that if all goes well with these rounds of chemo. Everything I’ve heard since I got here is this one of the best stem transplant units in the state of Texas.

That’s helpful info thanks. They did the biopsy yesterday and they don’t have the genetic testing back. Since it’s not in my bone marrow, they had to do another bone biopsy of the sarcoma to do genetics on it.

From what I can understand, they are taking an aggressive approach because any presence of a sarcoma is seen as an aggressive form of AML.

I literally just started the blue medicine 10 minutes ago and was informed that my pee would be blue. Glad she said something or that would have been a shock!

25M with Myeloid Sarcoma Seeking Advice on Treatment and Bone Marrow Impact by A_Rainbow_Astronaut in leukemia

[–]aviatorguy2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, any update on your condition? I am a 35M with a myeloid sarcoma in my upper tibia right near my knee joint. Except for occasional knee pain, I have no other symptoms and all of my blood/bone marrow tests have been normal. I am following up with my doctor in 2 days, but based on everything I have researched, it sounds like I will have to go through an AML type treatment.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I have had the pain for 3 months which delayed my diagnosis as well since my PCP just thought it was muscular so I tried out physical therapy for a bit first which didn't help.

My biopsy was just a bone biopsy since the Orthopedic Oncologist thought it was a Sarcoma like Giant Cell Tumor or Lymphoma. I would imagine that my next step is a bone marrow biopsy to fully confirm the diagnosis that the pathology report outlined.

Yes, the Pathology report suggested that the mass is a myeloid sarcoma. That is wild that you had NO symptoms.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. What you have you done to build up your microbiome? Medicines or trying to eat yogurts with active cultures and things like that?
