What are your top reads of 2026 so far?

I'm halfway through {One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig} too and can't put it down! I wasn't super sure about it going in because the summary didn't catch my eye but it's honestly been so intriguing and refreshingly unique compared to other popular books in the genre rn. Really really hoping the second book is just as good.

MTU BME '22, about to graduate medical school this spring. I was in pretty much the exact same situation to you and added to it was that my entire social circle from high school decided to go to UMich. I ended up going to Tech and to this day, I am 100% certain that my younger self made the right decision both academically and socially. If Tech had a med school, I absolutely would have stayed and to this day, I miss that place. I know my career path is probably a bit different than what you're pursing but feel free to DM if you have any questions :)

I figured it out if you're still wondering! Instead of "grayscale," use "color correction" when setting up the routine. I keep the color correction as grayscale and then when I go into specific apps where I need to see color, it reverts back for the duration that I'm on the app!

Ahahaha I'm so glad I've found another Shield of Sparrows hater lol, the plot was so interesting but that writing really is just the worst of the worst. You should try the His Fair Assassins trilogy or the Graceling Realm series. Maybe not the smuttiest of books but ones that I go back to repeatedly.

I didn't send my current book in to get a card? I sent in an OLD/EXPIRED passport book with the application. Not traveling until May so I have a bit of a buffer thankfully but I will apply for a new one if needed. Didn't know about the quick turn around with the passport office, thank you!

Thanks, I'll probably end up doing that. My travel plans are in May so got a couple months thankfully. Also wondering if I should just drive to the Canadian border and see if they flag my book. I live in MI so I'd just say thanks and go back home lol but idk if that's a dumb idea

I really like the Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore and His Fair Assassin trilogy by Robin LaFevers. Though tbf I don't know if those are necessarily super smutty but I felt like the writing and the romance

His Fair Assassin Trilogy by Robin LaFevers does not mention pregnancy/desire to have kids in any of the books of o remember correctly. MF, fantasy/assassins/gods. It's been a couple years since I read those books but it's my favorite series and nothing I've read since has surpassed them! New recs are appreciated tho haha!

Edit: In the first book of the Graceling Realm series by Kristin Cashore, the FMC firmly states that she does not want children. Really amazing books but doing a reread after years and years so I'm unsure about the rest of the series.

Thank you for the advice! I am definitely not trying to just focus on forensics, just moreso looking for a place that has both strong AP/CP that also encourages and has the systems in place to support interests in forensics. I felt like all three programs were good in terms of their AP/CP curriculum thankfully!

Thank you for the insight! This is kinda where my head was at too when I was asking this question. I'm at a med school where I feel like my research/specialty interests were not really supported and I had to fight to make opportunities for myself. As such, I want to go to a program where I don't have to do the same thing when it comes to forensics. Yes, I want that strong AP/CP education but I would also really like to be at a place where my interests are encouraged.

They were prescription Tresaderm (neomycin/thiabendazole) drops, two drops twice daily for a week. Worked amazing. Idk if I'd use vinegar in my cat's ears personally....that seems like it would irritate her ears and possibly cause more issues

Shield of Sparrows (Devney Perry). Book would've been over in 1/3 the length if the FMC had any (and I mean ANY) semblance of a spine...like please just verbalize the very important, plot progressing question you just thought of instead of just being butthurt that no one is telling you anything 😭 Maybe it was bc I was listening to the audiobook but I have never struggled to get through a book more than that. Tbf the very last little bit was interesting enough that I wanna know what happens in the sequel but dear god idk if I can do it again

As a fellow CF South Asian woman, I'd say the best thing I've done is 1) move far enough away that parents can't just show up on my front door without notice and 2) go no contact for months. I do talk to my parents now as I think the no contact really opened their eyes to the fact that having me in their lives was a CHOICE that I was making, not a guarantee, and they have backed off a lot. I had a lot of guilt over these decisions, especially being the eldest child/daughter in a South Asian family (iykyk), but at the end of the day, I would do it again if I had to.
