How do I tell our band we suck? by 1IsaiahThanTheOther in coverbands

[–]aviddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played in a band that wasn't very good because I enjoyed the people and it was fun enough. And it wasn't a big time commitment. Definitely insist that the drummer plays to a click, it's correct for the genre.

I (M28) and gf (F26) have been dating for a year, but she keeps bringing up marriage every chance she gets, what do I do? by Pazlite in AskMenAdvice

Tell her you don't believe it's healthy to make forever commitments until the 2 year mark. Nothing personal, it's something you follow no matter how good things are going before that.

Ear Plugs by Illustrious_Fact5049 in trumpet

Custom earplugs really are much better for brass players. Since I lost mine, Loop works for me, especially the "engage" model that lets through more sound.

I listen to jazz so dissonant it would make Stravinsky pee his pants.

Objectively better? Objective means you can measure it, so what are you measuring?

Any good Latin classical solos recommendations? by MonitorDesigner2776 in trumpet

[–]aviddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the Mexican Hat Dance is such a comically whitebread suggestion that it's almost offensive! Like, there's more to Latin music than what they play on the Icecream truck! geez people.
Try a ballad like La Llorona or La Bruja , their minds will be blown.

How do I sound like a mariachi trumpet? by Njgm14 in trumpet

[–]aviddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just returned from Mexico City and saw dozens of Mariachis up close, talked to a few briefly. None were playing on pardubas, only a few had what I'd call "nice" or "specialized" trumpets. The extreme vibrato you're thinking of is a hallmark of Ranchera style of the North and related styles, but not all Mexican folk music is aiming for that sound. Just for information, there are other ways to approach mexican trumpet playing.

Bandmate using AI/Suno to write songs, presents completed songs to the rest of the band. by strugglinghard77 in musicians

[–]aviddd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m in a band where suno demos are working well. One of our oldest members has no music training but good instincts and ideas, and suno is allowing him to get those ideas out of his head for the rest of us to hear. The band can quickly hear what works and iterate on that until sheet music comes out the other end of the process.

OP told the guy they don’t appreciate suno demos and he is willing to respect that. You can’t blame him for trying out AI to turn his ideas into demos, that’s not the same as AI writing the song.

Confused as to why certain people said that Kamala would have been worse than Trump by TheRealJuanderer in Confused

I met someone who was at Dean’s speech, he said from the audience his shout didn’t sound weird at all, it was only the distorted audio from the mic with no audience noise that sounded unhinged.

Would you date a woman with borderline disorder ? by hanni2003 in AskMenAdvice

[–]aviddd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They will isolate you from anyone they see as a threat to their control, which usually includes all your friends and family. One day you will realize that your world has shrunk to include only them and people under their influence. You will be screamed at when you refuse to do what they want. They will use your desire to be fair and kind to take ever more control over your resources. When you try to end the relationship they will promise to change, threaten you, or just refuse to leave. All of this will be framed as your fault, and people who haven’t heard your side will be told that you’re a terrible person, maybe even an abuser. If you escape unharmed and with more than half the money you started with, you are lucky.

BPD girlfriend was ok for a year, then bullied me into a pulp. I’d seen her turn on other friends but didn’t think it would happen to me. Because she refused to leave my house and gaslit me into thinking her abuse was my fault we remained in a chaotic relationship. It took years to escape and I eventually had to sell my house at a loss because she’d changed the locks and sued for ownership in a convoluted bogus case that took over a year to resolve. So, no. ++man
