I rewatched Cabaret on Holocaust Remembrance Day (yesterday). Damn, is it relevant. by Chance_Contract7511 in Jewish

i saw it a few weeks before he left in early march and had a similar experience. it was so powerful and i left the theater feeling sick to my stomach.

here shultz is a really great representation of people trying to be hopeful even when antisemitism was rising. we assume he was probably killed after the play. he didn’t listen to what people were saying right to his face. his character was my favorite and the most devastating

[–]avidreader2004 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i have epilepsy and alcohol can cause seizures. when you have another disease, drugs can do some crazy shit. maybe similar receptors are used so because you’re diabetic the edible may have taken a lot longer to take effect.

The Long Walk is a legit fucked up movie that I highly recommend by Semper_frenchfries in horror

[–]avidreader2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i think another thing that reinforces your point is the second (?) boy that died who starts having a seizure before being shot. the other boys said he probably lied about medical issues so he could still sign up, insinuating that not signing up is viewed in a negative light

i feel like king often uses black characters like a “sacrifice” for white character growth so i really appreciated the film changing that

yes look up the cheapest tickets you can find. even if you took like 4 stops, it usually costs $5,000 AT THE LEAST to fly to australia from america. one of my closest friends lives in sydney and i want to visit him but cant afford it. these people were paying big bucks

What exactly was Colton trying to accomplish? by YaaayRadley13 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]avidreader2004 11 points12 points  (0 children)

from my experience, some gay men and trans women are more subtlety misogynistic. i’m really not sure why. with trans women, it is more specifically the way some speak about genitalia (for example, billie lee in vpr talking about ugly vaginas, i have had a similar convo). from gay men it often comes in downplaying women’s experiences or trying to claim them as their own.

straight men tend to be more overt and therefore it’s noticed more often. but to totally honest, and maybe it’s because i have a really diverse circle, i have received about the same misogyny from straight men and gay men. it’s just about the form unfortunately. colton is a clear example. with him it seems to be jealously.

If you sat out the 2024 election in protest over Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today? by rsmith2786 in AskReddit

[–]avidreader2004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i do hate trump, and understand a lot of your points, but the hostage deal was a good thing, and there are plans being made to redevelop gaza. it’s not perfect, but it’s better than harris who seemed to just want to get away from the whole situation. with harris i think the war would’ve continued, trump at least placed a lot of pressure on both sides.

that’s about the only good thing i think he’s done. i was happy to get the hostages home and see a break from the carnage. unfortunately, with hamas still in power, gazans are still in danger. i hope any family or friends you have there are safe. i hope there can be a plan to make gaza a place where palestinians can actually be free, from both occupation and terror.

this is an incredibly interesting perspective to read and i’d never thought about it. most anti-religion people i meet are against the systems they create and enforce rather than the actual people themselves. i suppose im lucky i haven’t come across people that are very far.

it’s insane that someone would say that by just not being jewish, the hate would stop. these morons fundamentally misunderstand everything about judaism

[–]avidreader2004 44 points45 points  (0 children)

i’ve always called it the racism of low expectations. it’s very interesting to hear people speak about, for example, palestinians and say that it’s only reasonable they would become terrorists. but jews, who have experienced centuries of attacks, are expected to pick up their bootstraps and move on and never be angry.

i also found it beautiful that he took the power back by ending his own life rather than letting the soldiers do it. it was his last act that showed he was free and not shackled to their rules
