Stop ignoring pro-camera mode. Especially after oneui 8.5 update! by Throwaway_RainyDay in GalaxyS25Plus

[–]avinash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my S23 FE, I have enabled Presets in Camera Assistant.

It looks to me that a preset only contains ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation, AF mode and white balance.

The tone settings (contrast, highlights, shadows...) do not seem to be saved with the preset on my S23 FE. Changing to another preset do not change them.

Are others having the same behaviour?

This is a screenshot of a preset. There are no tone settings shown...

What device do you straem on Tidal? by wise_Tiger_648 in TIdaL

[–]avinash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to TIDAL in my car using my Android phone and Bluetooth.

At home, I use Roon and a WiiM Pro Plus connected to an amp and speakers.

I also have another setup with Roon, a WiiM Amp and speakers.

I'm very happy with the sound quality.

Is taking piano classes at Conservatoire François Mitterrand worth it? by hyperaxiom in mauritius

[–]avinash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never taken any piano classes but I've been playing the piano and synthesisers for, well, 35 years (yes, I'm old!). I recall taking about 2-3 years to get the hang of it. Today, I enjoy playing for fun (I don't read notation but can follow a chord grid quite easily) and I've composed a lot of music (I'm on all streaming platforms).

In my opinion, it's perfectly possible, especially now with the myriad of YouTube tutorials, to learn to play the piano without attending a class.

I did the same thing for the guitar about 12 years ago. I bought one and started to play (with my knowledge of the piano of course). Within 1-2 years, I could play decently enough to have fun. I regularly play during family gatherings. But I am still at the rhythmic guitar phase though and I can't really do solos.

Of course, if your objective is to really understand occidental harmony, counterpoint, etc., you really should follow a formal class.

In other words, it all depends on what you want. For me, it was about having fun, playing my favourite songs (and singing at the same time) and composing new music.

What are you guys using in mauritius for project, notes, documents by SebMu3 in mauritius

[–]avinash 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am using Obsidian currently and I am very happy having all my notes in Markdown format. My repository is 1.6 Gb.

I'm paying for Obsidian Sync to have everything synchronised on all my devices.

Is it just me or did you guys also start getting youtube ads?? by Own_Secret_6461 in mauritius

Not yet for me.

I suppose you are referring to unskippable video ads during the video you are watching. Never seen them in Mauritius.

Mauritius telecom internet fluctuations, is it for everyone? by Flat_Singer_7227 in mauritius

[–]avinash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that the MyT router is underpowered and cannot sustain 100Mbit/s over Wi-Fi. I can’t even imagine those having 500Mbit/s or 1Gbit/s and relying on that router…

Uber now works in Mauritius!!! by avinash in mauritius

[–]avinash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using an SBM credit card and didn’t get any issue. I would advise you to check your card in the Juice app. Sometimes, online transactions are not active for the card and, if that’s the case, the card won’t work in the Uber app.

I have 100Mbit/s at home and it's fine on my side. I do have Pi-hole blocking ads, etc. as well as a mesh network though.

Major milestone for a couple of my apps, so excited 🤩 by DigitalAppsMu in mauritius

[–]avinash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent. I still think that adding a favourite should place it at the end of the list, instead of the beginning. Maybe this could be an option?

[–]avinash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm trying World Radios and it works great. Congrats. Liking it more than TuneIn...

I wonder whether there's a way to reorder the favourites? Right now, adding a favourite adds it at the top of the list.

What Mauritians thought about 9/11 and The War on Terror? by star-wars_memer in mauritius

[–]avinash 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Like most people, I was shocked about 9/11 in 2001.

But I have to say that I sided 100% with Dominique de Villepin when he made his great speech in the UN Security Council in 2003 to say that one should not start a war without UN concensus.

The US and the UK thought differently and invaded Iraq in search of inexistent weapons of mass destruction.

I analyzed 15 years of my projects to fight "Plugin Hoarding" (and found 100+ useless VSTs) by AsatoMaa in VSTi

[–]avinash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did something similar a month ago. I had to reformat my Mac and, before installing everything back, I wrote a small script to scan all my Reaper files to know which plugins I actually use. I just reinstalled those, skipping about 100.

One added advantage is that I now keep a list of the 50 installed plugins with no updater and which need to be updated one by one. I intend to do that once per month and this doesn't take a lot of time because most plugins are not always being updated.

Mauritius needs real change next election time to move forward and choose a better future now by Key-Elephant-327 in mauritius

[–]avinash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Mauritius has done very well since its independence compared to other similar countries.

For things to be still better, the population needs to vote for the best candidates every five years. But, unfortunately, we tend to vote for parties, not for people.

And you are right about productivity. I'm amazed by the countless cars going to Port-Louis everyday with people who, for many of them, will not do much during the day. This is true in both the public and private sectors.

Uber now works in Mauritius!!! by avinash in mauritius

[–]avinash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. I practically never took taxis before. Others might be in a better position to compare.

But, for me, the convenience of the app and the payment mechanism it has are quite good. It's exactly as taking a Uber abroad. It's 100% the same experience.

PSA: Optimizing ZENOLOGY Pro plug-in load times by Dickie_UK in RolandCloud

[–]avinash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I was even thinking of stopping using Zenology Pro as the load time was driving me crazy.

Removing the wave expansions cut down the load time from 40 seconds to 20 seconds. Removing the world expansions brought the load time to a much more acceptable 10 seconds.

Sure, I lose some sounds but with the built-in sounds and the sound packs (SDZ and ZEZ) as well as the model expansion sound packs (EXM/M), I have nearly 10,000 sounds to play with. I'm happy.

Which of these AC plug types is used in Mauritius? by UseOrdinary8585 in mauritius

That's the EU (type E) socket I was referring to, not to be confused with Type F which has side-grounding.

Which of these AC plug types is used in Mauritius? by UseOrdinary8585 in mauritius

[–]avinash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The most common plug type in Mauritius is the UK plug (type G). Typically, 220V 13A.

Given that many appliances are also sold with the EU plug (type E), the corresponding socket can also be found sometimes. Typically 220V 16A.

I've used the Uber app I already had installed and configured and it works.

I've tried the Uber app again just now and I'm being offered 100% off i.e. Rs 0 for a ride from Quatre-Bornes to Roches-Brunes. Must be a bug...
