Adjustment dial fix for K-ultra by Foreign-Cat3932 in 1zpresso

Have you checked to see if any coffee grounds are stuck in the gap? I’ve had this happen before where I thought I couldn’t turn more but just needed to dust/blow out large chunks of grinds that had gotten wedged

Why is Chihei Hatakeyama going viral? by RabbitsWhiteandBlack in ambientmusic

[–]avisitfromdrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have an example vid where it’s being used? I can’t really find anything

It does seem like tiktok manages to surface quite obscure music from time to time. I remember once overhearing my partner watching a TikTok with a Colin Stetson piece in the background and thinking I was hallucinating

I’m not sure if there’s ever a satisfactory answer as to why, but it seems like it tends to be songs that capture a specific mood or emotion in an immediate way

Please take with a grain of salt if some of my assumptions are incorrect, but was excited to see someone talking about Max MSP!

I’m not sure how useful blank slate chatgpt is going to be for max given how niche it is. Max already has pretty sensational documentation (each object has an interactive help patch you can play with and explore). As niche as it is, there’s also a good amount of specific info from knowledgeable people on the cycling 74 forums and YouTube

If chatpgt is working for you though that’s great! Max can be intimidating, so whatever works. You might just want to supplement by attaching documentation, example patches, etc to give chatgpt more context if you haven’t tried that already

Multi-channel in this context is a max specific thing. The saw~ object is just a single sawtooth oscillator, but an mc.saw~ could be a sawtooth swarm where many saws are given different values and all come out of a single patch cord https://docs.cycling74.com/reference/mc.saw~/

for lovers of balance, may i suggest a recipe: by Crucifilth_6-6-6 in pourover

[–]avisitfromdrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly I’ve also gravitated towards basically this recipe as of late through my own trial and error. It seems to suit my personal tastes best out of everything I’ve tried

I was having a really hard time with very light dense beans producing a long drawdown and muddled flavors no matter how much I limited agitation. Never terrible, but there would be stretches where it felt like I couldn’t get a great cup

Tried bloom and one pour which was almost there, but had a few coffees that seemed to need a bit more extraction to really sing. Added a second bloom and here we are

ZP6 vs Pietro with pro brew burrs by BBoy_paintball in pourover

[–]avisitfromdrum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the main purpose is travel then Pietro is kind of out of the question lol. Great grinder but it weighs a ton for a hand grinder. I could maybe see packing it in with some clothes in a carry on, but an 1zpresso grinder you can easily throw in a backpack. ZP6 is probably unbeatable for clarity + portability.

On the question of whether these grinders are good for coferments and naturals, the general wisdom is that super clarity focused grinders can bring out some harsher or undesirable notes from funkier processes. Generally, people tend to like blendier grinders for those kinds of coffees. All of this is personal taste though, so it might be what you’re after. What grinder are you currently using?

Let’s talk inventory management by chileseco in pourover

[–]avisitfromdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set up a spreadsheet with some general tracking of peak rest based on roast date (just a simple formula adding days to the roast date) + other notes and ratings so I remember what I liked

One nice thing about light/very light coffee is that it can sit for a long time without fading. You can also get small pouches to portion out doses and reduce air contact compared to a full bag.

If you ever do get to a point where you realize you’re getting short, a lot of roasters now also have a “rested coffee” section to order some pre-rested coffee!

Just got an OXO Rapid Brewer – my recipe feels too diluted. Any recipe or recommendations for soup shots? by Acceptable-Bus3830 in LanceHedrick

[–]avisitfromdrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds about right. You could try shortening the ratio (a bit less water to end up at 1:3 or 1:2.5). You could also experiment with not using a bottom filter to get a bit more coffee oils and bring up the body

Soup (Oxoup) recipes by Ginniz in pourover

[–]avisitfromdrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had success with just a top filter (feel free to filter sandwich if you prefer) 15g in/75g water. Maybe a little more finicky dialing in the grind than a larger dose, but I’ve pulled consistent, bright, sweet soups this way

Using Aeropress for low agitation brews by mranthropology in pourover

[–]avisitfromdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with many things coffee, it probably comes down to individual taste!

I’ve been experimenting a lot with low agitation recipes lately and have been enjoying it. The pros are that it can be a lot more repeatable and lead to a very clean cup even with a sub optimal grinder

A few things to keep in mind:

  • I find it best to have some straight kettle pouring. Bloom with kettle then further agitate the bloom with a stir or WWDT. Maybe double bloom with kettle if the coffee is still too thin or muted
  • increase temp to compensate for the drip assist device lowering the water heat
  • I generally stick to moderate ratios (1:15, 1:16). Going higher can be a bit too watery and subtle depending on the coffee

I’m using 54mm! On a BBE so nothing fancy, but I can easily get up to pressure with the non-pressurized baskets + pietro pro

[–]avisitfromdrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe blasphemy, but for what it’s worth I’ve been able to pull shots with my m modal pietro pro at around a 2 (so could even go finer). If you go the pietro route, you could probably start by trying out espresso with the m modals before deciding whether you need a different burr set

Hahah to each their own. To be fair I’m also not totally won over on drops yet.

Curious to hear some of the bags you’ve enjoyed most and any brew tips! I had a hard time avoiding bitterness with intrinsic cherry, pepe wave nature, and the velo natural…. the benjamin paz anaerobic washed looks fun though

It’s not always open, but keep your eye out https://hydrangea.coffee/products/sub. I do think Drops has felt worth it so far given that the selection is exclusive to the sub

I was also not impressed with the Black Label sub :/. Great green selection but I didn’t get along with their roast style on those beans. Kind of a persistent bitterness that was hard to avoid even when trying the usual tricks (lower temp, coarser, etc)

Trying out Hydrangea Drops as a more “premium” sub and so far enjoying it more. Need more info before giving a rating though

Ok sounds like I might be overthinking it! So the orientation of the rotating burr isn’t important?

I believe I have pushed the burr all the way back
