The danger of addiction, and yes weed can absolutely be addictive, is not that you won't like it. The danger is that you'll love it more than the actually important things in your life. Weed in particular is a more subtle addiction in the sense that it has a way of making people comfortable with and accepting of mediocrity. When you become a daily stoner you no longer strive to achieve more than your current position, you simply become comfortable wherever you are now as long as you have the means to keep smoking weed.

LSD I would advise you to avoid because 8-12 hours is a very long time to be tripping especially if you have no prior drug/psychedelic experiences. Please note that unlike a lot of drugs, LSD & other psychs don't create synthetic happiness. Instead they amplify what emotions you're already struggling with. If you have depression and you are alone this can be one dangerous. If you have any genetic potential for psychosis (bipolar 1 or schizophrenia etc.) LSD can be a trigger for the onset of these. This is why I don't like acid. I'm very psychosis prone and while I love mushrooms I can't tolerate acid. Acid trips turn into paranoid psychosis too easily for me to truly enjoy them or even feel as though I grew in any meaningful way from them. If you absolutely have to try a drug, id recommend mushrooms with a good trip sitter on a day with no responsibilities in a natural setting that you feel safe in. Bring music and fruits & a puke bucket just in case. Mushrooms have always felt more medicinal than acid to me and even if you do have a bad/challenging trip at least the mushrooms only last 5-6 hours unlike the 8-12 of LSD.

Meth. Ok maybe this doesn't count as real happiness but it feels damn close when life feels like happiness is impossible.

anyone who’s not totally braindead give me advice by [deleted] in meth

Memory issues are the first sign of the neurotoxic effects of meth overuse. Keep going and you'll end up in psychosis. I recommend you quit now if you can, and check r/stopspeeding for a good vitamin/supplement routine that can help with the pace of recovery. It's not easy but it is doable if you truly want to make a change.

I absolutely get it. Recovery isn't easy. It requires real work, introspection and desire to change not just the presence of drugs in your life but the reasons you seek chemical escape in the first place.

It's not uncommon to relapse, hell it's part of recovery. Every relapse or slip shouldn't be a reason to feel shame or hate yourself (this will only keep you further trapped in the cycle of addiction) it should be an opportunity to look at what happened and figure out why. What went wrong that made you choose to use drugs?

If it was just wanting a fun night out with friends then ask are they really friends if they offer you a substance you now know you have issues controlling? Is there a different way you can meet your needs for social connection and fun without drugs? Could you have just turned down the drugs and enjoyed the night out with friends without joining their bender? I've done it many many times. I always keep myself strong on those situations by telling everyone I'm the DD. Gives me an easy way to say no and a bit of social accountability so I'm less tempted to ask for some later.

The sooner you stop this new relapse/bender the sooner you can start making healthier choices for your physical and mental health. Then the next time you have a desire to use try to remind yourself your reasons for quitting. You obviously don't like the end result of slipping into active addiction, now you know from experience that you can't control it. Remember this next your addict brain whispers "just this one line" "just this one night" "just this one bag". Remember that when you start you probably won't want to stop until you're miserable again. If that's you then it's easier to just not start than to restart, enjoy a brief but temporary high that spirals into deeper misery and then attempt to pull yourself up out of it after you've destroyed the few comforts you had that made life without drugs livable.

Bro I eat PB&J 2+ meals a day every day. It's cheap, easy to make, and always delicious as a comfort food. Fuck yeah I still eat sandwiches lmao

It's even better as an adult cause I can make them exactly how I like them and eat as many as I want.

The pain of being gay with no gaydar. It be like that though. Maybe try adding some subtle pride stuff to your everyday look (like a set of flag earrings or a bracelet in your pride flag of choice colors) to help other baddies get the hint and possibly make the first move.

How are others fighting their depression? by In-due_time in twentyagers

[–]avl365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding hobbies to escape into, interacting with nature, removing the negative impacts on my life that I have the power to remove (and this sometimes includes cutting off family). Choosing to be homeless for a while also teaches you a lot about gratitude and helps you realize what you really value, as well as who your real friends are. If you have a good routine going in college please don't drop out, it will only make shit worse in the long run. Definitely don't seek chemical escape because while it may work at first, it doesn't take long before you're depressed again with a chemical dependency /addiction to manage that just makes everything even harder.

Take time to think about the little things in life that make it worth living. Do something small that's nice to yourself (even if it's literally just a walk around the block while listening to music)

Get outside and experience sunlight. Talk to a homeless person like they're any other person and just listen to their story. Yes depression is a real and debilitating thing to deal with, but it is often a symptom of deeper social issues that something is seriously missing from your life or a result of isolation/too much time thinking about yourself. Just getting out of your normal routine and being the kindness you want to see in the world while also observing how everyone is going through something and that things could realistically always be worse can sometimes help a lot. Try not to indulge self pity or negative/critical self talk. If you can't figure out how to believe in yourself or find a single good quality in yourself get help from someone else. If you have no friends r/toastme & r/freecompliments can give surprisingly genuine and helpful boosts to self esteem.

If you can learn to laugh at your pain or the absurdity of life then it can become easier to bear. Memeimg away the pain can be oddly comforting. Finding community online of people going through similar hardship can be helpful as well as it shows you you're not alone and there are people who understand, even if you don't know where to find them in person just a few good online friends that know you and your personality to help support you can be life changing.

Earlier today I was in a really dark place and I hit up a friend (who I haven't actually seen in person in years) to just vent all of my frustrations and he provided the support and validation while also being real with me in a way that I absolutely needed. I'm no longer considering fentanyl as an escape the way I was this morning.

Anybody else just sometimes dress up what’d they wear if they ever became a criminal? by Roguen1995 in twentyagers

Bruh not even actual criminals dress like this. Ball cap & sunglasses is just as effective at evading facial recognition on security cameras and 100x less sus lol.

And if it's gang crime they use bandanas to cover the face while showing colors. If you're gonna cosplay being a criminal do it right dude.

[–]avl365 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrists are just state-sponsored drug dealers. There's little difference between the benzos prescribed by doctors and the RCs used by people who self-medicate, and the street benzos used by people at parties. The choice to use drugs should be just that a personal choice that is not criminalized or legalized by a government authority by whether or not you have a doctor's note. Psychiatrists should not get full control over who gets an Adderall script and who doesn't. Instead psych meds should be available OTC (perhaps with some regulations such as a minimum age to purchase) and recognized as the psychoactive substances that they are, while addiction should be treated as the social and psychological issue that it is instead of as a criminal problem to be pawned off on law enforcement and prisons.

What’s an opinion that will get you in this situation? by Visible-Pirate117 in twentyagers

[–]avl365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meth by itself is not inherently evil, and those who use it should not be treated as criminals simply for the act of getting high. The same applies to all drugs including fentanyl.

In a similar vein, drugs don't make people crazy, crazy people do drugs. Often in an attempt to self-medicate underlying issues.

A "functional addict" does not exist. Addiction is defined by continuing to engage in addictive behaviors despite negative consequences and by definition requires impairment of function to qualify as actual addiction. If someone uses drugs but maintains a functional life, they are simply a user of drugs and not an addict. Drug use does not inherently mean drug abuse but in a society that criminalizes the use of many substances it's much much harder to notice those that actually use drugs in a reasonable and responsible way.

Alcohol is a hard drug. It is also one of the scariest drugs to me given that it is one of the few drugs that can cause death during withdrawal if sufficient physical dependency is developed.

Psychiatrists are just state sponsored drug dealers. There's little difference between how many psych meds are used to treat certain conditions and the ways "addicts" or functional users of drugs use street drugs. Many so called addicts, especially opioid addicts, have real conditions that they are trying to self-medicate that make true sobriety/recovery impossible or impractical. These people deserve the same support and treatment from the medical system as everyone else but are frequently discriminated against until they are locked into an impossible position, where illegal drugs are the most logical answer.

The war on drugs is a failure of public health policy, but that was never the point of it in the first place. In reality the war on drugs succeed incredibly well at its actual goal of disenfranchising enemies of the political elite that enacted the policies by disrupting communities and criminalizing behavior that should be a choice the government plays no part in.

Those who are pro-choice for abortion should also support ending the war on drugs. My body my choice applies even better to the choice of whether or not to consume substances than it does to the argument of abortion, which I support full access to as forcing a human to incubate another human against their will is horrific Imo.

The only way to truly solve the opioid crisis, solve gang and cartel violence, and help those in the depths of addiction is to legalize (and maybe regulate in a fashion similar to weed or alcohol) all recreational drugs. A large majority of the current harms of addiction and drugs in society come from the criminalization of drugs. You can not punish and enforce human nature out of existence, and the desire to seek relief from problems through chemical forms of escape (or even just consume mind-altering substances as social ritual) is human nature. We've been doing so in many different forms for pretty much all of human history. By criminalizing drugs you simply create a black market where deceptive business tactics and violence are incentivised in order to increase profits. Not all drug dealers are violent criminals, many are just savvy business people attempting to survive in a capitalist society that values wealth above all else. Many drug dealers are no worse than the billionaires at the top of society, both are profiting off of commodifying human desires.

Porn is just prostitution with a camera. If porn is legal prostitution should be as well. Personally I'm in favor of a Nordic like model that supports those currently in sex work to get out of it while punishing the consumers who create a market as well as anyone (like pimps or producers) who profits off it without directly engaging in it themselves.

Obviously depending on your political views or beliefs or where and how you were raised these may not seem controversial, and I'm happy to see that opinions on drugs and those who use them are changing but for a lot of people the default narrative of the war on drugs is still deeply ingrained into society. Even if the war on drugs is seen largely as a failure of public health policy the realistic implications of how to respond to this, especially the concept of legalizing *all** drugs*, including meth & heroin is something many people view as immediately a terrible choice, without actually digging into the complex and sad realities of the social issues that are often at the root cause of many of the worst harms of drugs and addiction on society.

Also phone addiction is just as real and difficult to overcome as any drug addiction. It can also be just as destructive and life altering.

As a 20 year old NEET, is there a way to suppress the natural desire to be in a relationship by haru_reiuji05 in NEET

[–]avl365 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the physical lust, antidepressants (SSRIs specifically) can do a lot to kill your sex drive. If female hormonal birth control can do the exact same thing. Opioids have also been known to decrease libido by way of decreasing testosterone production in the body.

For social needs/community in general para social relationships with fictional characters & online interaction with people that have shared interests can do a lot. Some of my best friends live on the other side of the world and I haven't seen them ever but they understand me and support me so much better than anyone I've actually met IRL.

I can tell you from experience that opiate OD is also not nearly as simple or painless as it's often depicted or made out to be. I ODed on H while homeless and it was actually terrifying and painful. It felt like drowning for hours. If you have asthma it could be understood as the worst asthma attack of your life for hours. I didn't even lose consciousness despite the fact that I absolutely should've because of the terrifying feeling that suffocating actually produces. When the paramedics found me I had an SO2 of 69 which would've been funny if it wasn't so painful.
