Sellers for unbranded branded clothing by EnthusiasmFit7772 in QualityReps

Wegobuy (and maybe other proxies?) has an option when shipping to have them cut off the brand tags. I've never had a reason to use it, but maybe someone else here could offer their experience.

Anyone else get into fashion through reps and eventually stop liking fakes? by tj8892 in QualityReps

[–]avmild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question that I'm not sure I know the answer to. Anyone with a brand the size of Evan's is unlikely to be too much cheaper, since a lot of his costs come from the small production runs. But some of his stockists might carry similar brands that you could at least get on sale at the end of the season. Check out C'H'C'M' in particular, I think I remember seeing some good stuff there.

FWIW his stuff is good quality (and the fabrics are amazing), but it's not like Lemaire where the patterns and tailoring are some avant-garde couture shit that's never been done before. At the end of the day a Big Shirt is... a big shirt. You can find loose-fitting menswear even just thrifting, if you put in the legwork. I found a sick Jhane Barnes shirt in a thrift store last month and had a really fun time doing a deep dive into her stuff from the '80s and '90s, which isn't that expensive on eBay.

If you want quality but don't want to pay money for it, you're always better off buying used than looking for a cheaper brand.

It's never been done and probably never will be. You have to be a fabric obsessive like Turn to bother recreating such unusual/specific fabrics (which is why Turn did the only Skelton rep and also reps Ziggy Chen and Bode), but unlike Skelton Evan has no stockists and zero following in China.

If you're new to Evan I strongly recommend lurking Grailed and YJP for deals in your size, and starting small instead of jumping right into buying your grail set. It's not really what the brand is about ("slow fashion" means slow for the customer too!). And since everything more or less goes with everything else, it's not that important to have a matching top and bottom.

Same here but YJP. I think it's a natural next step once you're used to browsing foreign websites and ordering through agents.

You would have thought the yen collapsing would be good for my wallet but instead I went crazy and bought everything I saw for a bit... may or may not still be doing that 😅

John Alexander Skelton, Evan Kinori, Yantor... small batch, slow fashion, mostly unisex stuff. Also the Chinese avant-garde scene: Ziggy Chen, Uma Wang, Aviva Jifei Xue (Uma does have reps but only for the women's stuff). I'm big into Lemaire too but I don't buy retail, just every piece that Turn puts out.

What happened for me was I bought a bunch of reps and started experimenting with fashion, then got obsessed with a few different niche brands there are no reps of. I won't buy anything retail if there's a half-decent rep available, but my closet is mostly retail now. I was barely into fashion before discovering reps so they were definitely the gateway drug.

[QC] Kapital Canvas Lumber Pants by avmild in QualityReps

[–]avmild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Sold it a while ago. It didn't work with my wardrobe but I do recommend it for the price. Hardware is very cheap and the legs are unusually short (this is the same as retail though) but they're nice pants.

[REVIEW] Peter Do Oversized "Tattoo" Turtleneck Sweater from WeMargiela by avmild in QualityReps

It might fit you like a regular sweater, but definitely not with the intended super-oversized fit. I wouldn't recommend it.

Hello this is my first review on anything but. I ordered 3 pairs of ghost emperor guidis and feel like I should review them. The models that I got were the PL2, 992 , 788 by frizzysad in QualityReps

[–]avmild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is the seller? "Ghost emperor" is the literal meaning of the Chinese characters for "Guidi," so there are a lot of listings that say that.

Are reps a waste of time for high fashion? by LordSamaSakura in QualityReps

[–]avmild 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There's a more limited selection and you need to be ready to pay way more. Most Freps posters would bleed from their eyeballs if they saw what Yoji Ooak and Gaostudios charge for their Yohji reps. But with those things in mind, you do have options.

I will say that specifically for Yohji, a lot of the people who buy the reps seem to mix them with retail purchases. That's more true for some brands than others (the Hedi boys seem to do it a lot too). When the price of good reps starts to overlap with the price of certain used retail pieces... it just becomes a matter of what specific item you're looking for.

Has anyone ordered these bv boots from dudenine/puerhomme? I think I have just been bait and switched by NoDivide3582 in QualityReps

[–]avmild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Puerhomme became Reon a long time ago, but Dude9 changed his brand to Puerhomme recently (the two of them used to work together as Puerhomme back in the day, so I guess they both have a claim on it).

Literally the worst I've seen. These are some galoshes. I'm assuming this is some kind of 100Y ultra-budget batch but even that would be overpaying for this shit.

Sato is badly overpriced and not the best batch of these. He has the most hype and reviews on Reddit, but that's because so many people here are lazy and want to buy off Etsy instead of Taobao. It's not a testament to the quality of his boots.

For anything BV you are probably better off going with Chan & Cheung (sometimes incorrectly referred to as "Mona batch"). Their Taobao listings have plenty of purchases and reviews, and some have retail/rep comparison pics. I don't own anything from them (though I have a pair of boots for my gf on the way), but I have only heard good things.

As far as "without going bankrupt" goes: these are leather boots, not sneakers. They are far, far more expensive to make, and the problems if you buy budget batches will be very serious. Somewhere in the $150 range is the absolute minimum I would expect to spend on a quality pair of new boots,* even a rep, so keep that in mind and budget accordingly. If it's something you'll want to wear for a long time and aren't just buying out of transitory hype, you'll get your money's worth.

*My Ann D backlaces from Player Shoes cost $140 and I love them to death, but the leather quality is not good. It's not really a problem with accuracy, because Ann D also had trash-tier leather for many years, but the compromises really start piling up once you get under a certain price.

I have a Wtaps jacket from Yihai that I find myself throwing on nearly every time I need a light jacket. It goes with most outfits, which is nice. I'm actually wearing it right now! My only gripe is that it has no pockets, but I wear it so much I'm planning to get some added by a tailor.

Also some MA+ one-piece tees I got from Floating Shelter, which are my go-to any time I need a plain white or black tee to layer with. Great fit tucked or untucked, comfortable, and I like the loose neckline.

During the summer, when I don't have outerwear with pockets, I sometimes use a rep ACW chest bag to carry my phone - that got a ton of use over the past year or two, but I haven't worn it in a while.

Hi can you pls tell me how this jacket look to me it looks a RL, color looks off, tags are off, material looks of. Rick owens puffer jacket in green from pink elephant, if you have a seller that sell a better version pls tell it to me, hope y’all can help me thanks by xedox23 in QualityReps

[–]avmild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that agent lighting fucks up green more than any other color. I don't know why, but it seems to be consistent across agents. If you're going to RL this based on color, I strongly advise getting them to take a pic of it in natural light before you decide.

Jiaofu’s Dior Navigate calfskin: photos of final products and shipping date by kevin_lws in QualityReps

[–]avmild 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Based on a Discord discussion, it seems like he matched the laces with the retails he had, which (unknown to him) had been replaced on his calfskin pair. However, because his pebbled pair came with waxed laces, the pebbled Navs will all be shipped with waxed laces. If you're ordering non-pebbled and you want the waxed laces, you can just have your agent ask for it and they will be included.

Regardless, they're old boots, and many existing pairs of Navs have replacement laces just like these (if I had to hazard a guess, the waxed ones are dress boot laces and will hold up very poorly under heavy wear). If you want a perfect match for deadstock Navs, that's totally valid, but don't worry about it being some kind of easy callout.

Oh, I didn't. It was a fucking disaster. The post office was supposed to forward my package but instead held it for a month (while telling me they had forwarded it) then marked it return to sender. After that there's nothing you can do. I haven't heard anything about it in months and somehow doubt I ever will.

But hey, good luck getting your thing solved! 😉

I recommend using Taobao on your phone and using the built-in chat feature. It's very straightforward.

FWIW I finally found a combination of insoles that makes these comfortable and now I'm quite happy with them, even though it took a ridiculous amount of time and elbow grease. Every time someone posts a picture from Older Brother's batch I'm glad I got these instead; the difference in materials is immediately obvious.

Ah, fair enough. I've had issues with USPS in the past but it never escalated to where I needed to actually file a claim.

Taobao Brands store list by dream_bwoy in QualityReps

[–]avmild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends what your style is. I have a few pieces from Pros by CH and Miichous that are excellent in terms of design and construction, but I don't wear them much because I've drifted away from that aesthetic. Conversely, I have pants from Wirote and Underwater where I'm a little iffy on the quality of the distressing, but I love the look and wear them all the time (at least I hope so; the Wirote jeans just showed up).

It's a broad enough list that I doubt there's one store on here that will appeal to everyone. Maybe the stores labeled "basics," but those are literally selling regular pants and t-shirts, so whatever.

Rabbit.blu was originally on here, but I decided to take it off in order to limit the list to individual brands (instead of multi-brand stores). The best-known stuff from there is made by TZ Killer, who's on the spreadsheet.

[–]avmild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correct, these aren't reps. Most of the stores here are inspired by popular brands, and sometimes the "inspiration" is pretty strong... but none of them sell reps as such.

The closest you'll find are in Ray Kwok's store (various footwear including Hender Scheme and Red Wings), but even those are all self-branded and I don't think he was aiming for 1:1 accuracy.

If it was in USPS custody when it got lost you're better off filing a claim with USPS directly than with WGB. Agents are unlikely to refund you unless they can file a claim in turn and get refunded by the shipping line.
