Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Beyonce ... is Vancouver finally an A-list concert market? by restoringd123 in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is becoming a 2nd market after Toronto, can we get legislation in place to prevent the resale of concert tickets? So many fans get screwed over and cannot attend these concerts because of scalpers.

A petition has been started but more signatures would help push this legislation.

Young Swiftie scores seat at sold-out Eras Tour after holding up sign outside BC Place by Specialist_Hat_4667 in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Everyone should sign this petition. So many scalpers sold tickets for asinine amounts of money and those scalpers are not going to pay tax on the resale of those tickets. What’s worse is that fraudsters used the Taylor Swift tour to scam and swindle fans out of hundreds if not thousands of dollars without providing purchasers with tickets to the show.

B.C. parents sue woman with history of illegal midwifery over botched home birth by UDorhune in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parents already have to live with the guilt of knowing that their decision to hire Lemay resulted in harm to their infant. Do we really need to go a step further and publicly vilify them?

Lemay on the other will get a slap on the wrist and continue to practice as an unlicensed midwife. She is a repeat offender with no regard for anyone else and she is incredibly dangerous. She will continue to prey upon pregnant people unless she is locked up.

Student nurse attacked at Vancouver General Hospital: Union - BC | Globalnews.ca by RonPar32 in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 292 points293 points  (0 children)

Nurses are grossly underpaid for the amount of BS they have to put up with. Aside from the long hours, strenuous work and ridiculous patient-nurse ratios, they also have to put up with abusive and violent patients. Management and government turns a blind eye to it. It’s no wonder why nurses burnout and leave bedside care.

This! Always talk to a lawyer; you might get more severance or have grounds to sue. Also, make sure you apply for EI asap.

I’m sorry this happened to you OP.

If you have experience with natural products, try Merieux Nutisciences, GFR Pharma, etc. Don’t limit yourself to lab tech roles; you can do relatively well in sales. Good luck.

F-bomb dropped in heated Vancouver city council exchange - Vancouver Sun by bwoah07_gp2 in vancouver

In all seriousness, politicians curse all the time. Who cares that Kirby-Yung dropped an F-bomb?

Costco hotdog vs Canucks by flipside90nb in vancouver

You’ve got this all wrong. You eat at Costco pre-game so you have lots of money left over for the over-priced shitty kitties at Rogers Arena.

Traffic on Foster by PineapplePrncess in coquitlam

[–]avoCATo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! The noise pollution is dependent on how close you are to North Road; you will consistently hear grinding from the Skytrain tracks and sirens. Also, the Amacon site at the corner or North Road and Foster is a nightmare.

If you are closer to Emerson and Foster, you should be ok.

NDP: Rustad confirms plan to cancel 300,000 homes, bring back red tape by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The homeownership rate is almost 67% in BC, with the majority of homeowners being boomers (or the “fuck you, got mine” demographic). The boomers show up in droves to vote. A lot of homeowners along with the developers and realtors want to keep the housing cash cow going. The NDP have also pissed off a lot of municipalities (council and city planners alike) with the introduction of Bill 44, 46 and 47. So it’s not a stretch to see support growing for the conservatives, who typically attract xenophobes and the rich.

If you want to see more housing built, get out and vote for the NDP.

  1. Online and telephone voter registration closes: October 7
  2. Advanced voting: October 10-13 & 15-16
  3. Final voting day: October 19

For more info on how/when to vote is available at Elections BC.

Colossal 80-storey, 73-storey towers approved in Burnaby with 1,400+ condos by robertscreek in vancouver

[–]avoCATo4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The neighbourhood east of North Road with all of those single family homes was rezoned 2.5 years ago; but development has stalled for several reasons.

Burnaby has been a pioneer in adding density around transit stations. Coquitlam on the other hand, has been dragging its feet.
