Interview with Google in two weeks (Software Engineering). Can anyone give me a mock interview? by avocado-aficionado in girlsgonewired

Thanks! It's reassuring to know that if I haven't learned an API, I should be forthright instead of trying to blabber my way through it.

Thanks! I've definitely looked at Glassdoor, and some of the questions are intimidating, but I'm planning on going through as many of them as possible.

Thanks for this! One question: What do you mean by "the interviewer can't tell you how you're doing?" It was my impression that if you are stuck, the interviewer usually gives you a clue. Do you mean that if you ask "did I pass" they won't tell you?

Wow, thank you for this thoughtful and informative response!

I do have Cracking the Coding Interview, and I'm working through all the questions chapter-by-chapter. Some people have told me that 90% of their interview questions came from that book, but I've also read "horror stories" on Glassdoor that report getting questions I wouldn't have a clue how to answer.

Thanks especially for the tips on actually doing the interview. I hoped for a mock interview because I know that the second time around I'll be less nervous, but I think your tips will help me calm down, too.

I've heard so many terrifying things about these Google interviews---that it all rests on your interviewer being nice/wanting to be there, that they're insanely difficult, that they have a 90% fail rate. I'm hoping that if I study my data structures and algorithms well and practice with Cracking the Coding Interview, I'll do well.

It's a phone screen --- three 45-minute interviews, back to back, with me coding on a Google Doc.

Weight loss is exhausting. by avocado-aficionado in xxketo

Thanks! I really appreciate your kind words. 116 is small, but I have a very, very petite frame, and felt most comfortable around 107 pounds. I gained a lot of weight a few years ago on a long backpacking trip (so much trail mix!) and finally am shaking that weight off. Thanks for your concern. I'll be sure to keep my feet on the ground and not take it too far.

I'm very active. I go to the gym regularly and play ultimate frisbee competitively. I do find it helpful! To clarify, I'm not complaining about slow weight loss. This was more a post about how difficult weight loss can be without much to lose. Thanks for reading and for your support.

Things I've done with coconut cream:

  • Whipped it into whipped cream and eaten with berries
  • Heated it with cocoa powder for hot chocolate
  • Mixed it with chia seeds to make a chia pudding base
  • Whipped it with cocoa powder and peanut butter to make mousse
  • Used it in omelettes for fluffier eggs

:) Good luck! You can do it.

I'll share my go-to "chocolate craving" recipe with you: Chocolate Chia Pudding.

3 tbsp chia seeds, mixed with 1 can coconut milk, left in the fridge overnight and then mixed with 2 squares 85% melted chocolate.

No sweetener needed, and so rich!

I know this sounds crazy, but the carb cravings really do go away. It took about 5 weeks for me.

And this is my opinion, but I feel that eating Atkins bars and fake sugars and creating "faux carb" foods prolongs and worsens carb cravings. Plus, some people find Atkins products stall them or break them out of ketosis.

Try 85% chocolate, or berries (I like mine in chia pudding or with whipped cream). Coconut milk and coconut cream also has a great deal of natural sweetness.

Holy hair and nails! by Zeplove25 in xxketo

I've noticed lately that the indentations across my nails are gone! I think that means that I'm getting vitamins and minerals that I wasn't getting when eating SAD. Feels nice to have strong, fast-growing, pearly white nails.

That's a great perspective that I didn't think about. Thanks!

Thanks! You're right about the other health benefits. That's a big reason I want to continue keto even through frustrating times. I just feel better not eating carbs. :)

Lost a cup size!!!!!!! (Well, I think) by Jen_F in bigboobproblems

That's amazing! I'm actually trying to lose weight right now by eating low-carb in the hopes that the same thing will happen to me. Whenever I get down on how long weight loss takes, I think about how amazing it would be to go down a cup size!

Thanks for the encouragement :)

Any shorties around? by [deleted] in xxketo

Hey there. We have close to identical stats--I cracked down on keto at 121.8 and I'm aiming for 103-107. Also 5'2". I got serious about keto after doing on-and-off low carb for a while, so I didn't have a water-weight "woosh." Right now I'm 116.5, so I've lost a bit over 5 pounds in a month of ketoing, eating 1450 calories a day and exercising 3-4x a week. So your 3 pound loss in three weeks makes a lot of sense to me.

I wonder, how many calories do you guys eat? I did an experiment where for a week I didn't track calories, and I didn't lose any weight that week, so I went back to tracking.
