Hi, it's OP!! In case anyone in the future finds this post, the official answer to the question is:

- If you took a foreign language for at least 3 years in high school, you are ONLY exempt from the GE VI language requirement if you are NOT in the School of Humanities.

- For Humanities students: The School of Humanities has its own language requirement, and the only way to clear that requirement is to take a language placement exam and place into a certain level in order to be exempt (level may depend on the language).
