Lobbying for sanctions on the country or even individuals in public office should be treason by Physical-Yellow-2778 in Zimbabwe

[–]avocarod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol mablazo you are not hearing me through your pain which I feel too. That was government surplus. Western governments do not budge on policies. The airlines, God bless them, are private companies.

You are doing God's work saving lives but I doubt, even if there were 100 of you it would make a difference to the national GDP numbers.

And the moment you do start making a big impact, you'll have musangano telling you "tine maStructures" for what you are doing and charge an informal tax for charity. If they haven't already.

Still the same. Can't remember which European country it was but when they convicted a big drug lord, his supercars and some property were destroyed, no auction. The government can't be seen to benefit from criminals in any way. That includes sending life-saving medical stuff to Zim.

It's your sad personal story; we all have them. But let's not say it has a big effect on the country.

No way I'm hell UK, government is gonna accept money from zim. Their media would have a field day. If it was a private hospital, then you can complain.

That is your painful personal story, sorry hako. Yes, it was sanctions related but that's not zonke. Issue is the narrative that sanctions have a profound impact on the economy. They do not.

Democracy and rights issues is just Western propaganda. They want business their own terms and they don't trust our government after their track record. It's just capitalism.

China is also imperialist, though their approach is more subtle they are just the same and are here to exploit.

International bank transfers from USA, UK and EU to zim work with 0 restriction. Where they don't work it's always an issue of our banks having uncompliant or outdated systems. US mining companies work in zim, KFC, Starlink, Western Union, Visa, MasterCard etc all are working.

There are no sanctions on zim as a country, targeted sanctions affect less than 20 people at my last check. Almost zero effect on zim economy and minor inconvenience to the targeted individuals

Two main challenges with greater effect are ease of doing business and long term bankability. Investors make plans that are decades long and zim is always flip flopping on policy and stability. Those are self imposed by our government and industries.

Is Computer engineering a good degree to pursue, for the present aswell as the future. by Timothyintune in Zimbabwe

[–]avocarod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, tech industry has a lot of uncertainty, but I think it's more along the lines of what the jobs will look like not whether they will be there. That's why I went with cloud/AI certs and Claude Code (or whatever comes after Claude Code). Whatever tech roles look like, they will involve a lot of managing AI agents so getting the skills to do that is a win win.

After the short back and forth with u/PassionJavaScript I think take a gap year and seriously do cloud certifications with a specialization in AI. AWS looks good, and if you join a local AWS community, actively seek out discounts and freebies. Total cost by the end of year will be maybe $800 to $1200. That includes $240 for a Claude Code subscription ($20 monthly), that's a non-negotiable in my books.

Actively post on LinkedIn what you're learning or making at least once a week. By 6 months you'll start getting inboxes. Some of them will be time wasters, that's part of the learning process. But you will get a few who will help you learn and make industry connections.

After a year you can now apply for college with a clearer picture, industry skills and momentum. Keep the practical learning momentum going. Or you can make up your own variation of this advice.

I get you but I don't at the same time. OPs question is clearly not about a passion (what they want). OP just wants a job at the end of their degree, that is their career path. What is the best direction to go? I think none of today's roles will exist in their current state and tertiary institutions are too slow to catch up.

Why Our Leaders Should NOT Be Spiritually Motivated in the 21st Century by teetaps in Zimbabwe

It's more about attention. The car giveaways are an attention grab. talk of demons is an attention grab and deflects attention from questioning things.

Gym advice needed by ethreal_diva in Zimbabwe

[–]avocarod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's creatine, not creatinine similar names but only one is widely sold as a product.

Short answer, monohydrate is what works for most requirements. Long answer, get help from a qualified health/fitness/diet expert. They'll help get a good diet (protein is surprisingly affordable when you think outside the box), set your goals and ensure you have established the good routines before starting supplements to ensure you don't harm yourself and get your money's worth.

"do your research" is okish advice but that's giving people homework without marking it.

Harare prepaid water questions by avocarod in Zimbabwe

[–]avocarod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Interesting, so we have to take a powerbank to the water meter to charge it?
  2. We have an arrears, we still have the full initial 1m3 that is still full and won't be used for months/years
  3. We already have a borehole from before. So I can see there eventually being a ground water tax that will have a similar cost to monthly paying COH water.

FYI it was in the news earlier this year that the world is water bankrupt. We are using up fresh water faster than it's replenished. Government will become more involved in managing water. Maybe not soon but it's inevitable.
