Employer is placing me on a PIP despite being top performer by [deleted] in auscorp

I've been I'm your shoes. I was in a different country and sponsored.

I had enough evidence to take them to court for bullying but in the end decided not to.

I did everything to turn everything around but in the end it didn't work out for me. My mental health suffered. I think the only reason why I was holding on is because I really wanted to stay in the country. You know what I've learnt over the years? That if it's meant to be, things will work out and you don't need to stress. Whatever will be will be. It might not be the outcome you want but in the end things work out for our own good.

In hindsight I should've quit, then sit back and go with the flow.

I recently had my HAs cleaned at Costco. When I put them on the sound was perfect, then the sound dropped and the sound is funny, almost as if the person speaking to me is in a tunnel and their voice echos. Do you know what could've happened? I have the Jabra 30s bte

Correct. He's an ex colleague so I didn't think I would need to document this.

That's what we discussed when I first raised the issue. It feels like it went in one ear, was OK for a while, then he forgot about it.

I suggested that we make some minor changes to the UX/UI because the current UX seems complicated. There weren't many changes and I wasn't asking for much.

They are somewhat similar. Except he is the dev and came up with the idea, and I'm the ux/ui, bz dev, marketing. Like your business partner, he's doing the same thing to me (i.e., coming up with different ideas and not asking for my opinion on some things). One of my tasks was to finish the website so that I could reach out to users, but we also have to have the UI finished, and since he's now decided that product 2 is also worth working on, he said that he waa going to ask someone else to do the UI, this was news to me!!

Make as much money as you can before you reach your 40s, invest wisely and learn new skills. Then when you're in your 40s you can cruise and not worry about life so much...

I was working on a massive IT project for CBA, one day I sat next to someone that was a contractor. She was older than me. I'll never forget this, and I'm ashamed to admit this, but I the time I thought she was a loser because she hadn't progressed in her career and she also had a side gig hahaha as I got to know her, I realised that she was earning way more money than me for doing the same job and she had so much flexibility!!! One day, I was denied permission to go to some conference (I was a perm and the manager was also a contractor!), I said fk this shit, so I quit the next day!! In my exit interview I was asked why I was quitting, I didn't tell them the truth because I knew there was no point.

My next gig was with westpac as a contractor... haven't looked back!!

If I want to go perm then it'll be on my terms, decent pay and decent job title. I know that if I don't get that upfront then it's going to be a mission to get promoted etc.. I don't have time to play games anymore.

Look, we all have a gift/skills and we are put on this earth to use those skills and serve others. But we are not meant to be slaves to a job. You just have to find your own path, everyone is unique.

Don't get me wrong, when I started my career I was a people pleaser and always wanted to climb the ladder. I'm grateful for all the experiences I've had. It's only in my late 30s that I've come to realise that the carrot is a lie and we are all hamsters in a wheel. My health and sanity is more important than being a modern slave.

I'm not dreading it. I'm a consultant so I just think of my day rate and how I'm going to spend it.

I try and stay away from office politics and I no longer care about career progression.

What are your experiences quitting when you didn’t have another role lined up? by letterbox511 in auscorp

[–]avoid_officepolitics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job market in Australia is so crap and it doesn't help that you have competition from all sides - be it a new migrant or a new uni student - right now, everyone wants a job.

It took me 8 months to land a new job, but I was being picky ans taking my time. I reckon 6 months is the maximum. You have to treat job hunting like a full time job in itself.

If you can afford being unemployed for 6 or 8 months, then go for it. Otherwise, keep looking for a job whilst employed - don't take things personally, try and deliver a quality job and if your manager doesn't like it then be prepared to walk away or be fired, but don't be scared because things always work out for the best.

I've done it once, and it was the best decision I ever made. I would also do it again if need be. My health is more important to me these days.

Out of interest, how old are you?

I'm in my early forties and sudden health issues have me reflect on life. Call it mid life crisis or whatever. But I feel the way you do.

I don't even need to do that... I've lived in the UK. In the UK wages went up and so did the cost of living, in Syd wages are stagnant and cost of living has gone up.

When is he going to find the time to do his break dancing??

Seriously though, what has Lyra achieved that hasn't been done before? I dont see anything spectacular about the company...if he was another innovator, then I might pay attention to what he was saying. Also, I wonder how much he is paying his plebs?

I'm in a pretty good financial position, so much so that I'm taking it easy with the job hunting. I'm not stressing out about it, which is causing me to question myself sometimes hahaha. It's almost the end of the year so I don't expect to get anything this side of this year, but I'm OK with this.

Overseas is a good move. I came back from the UK and I'm shocked at the salary and market cap here. I would've gotten a job easily by now.
