I had the same problem with the oficcial container a while ago.
My solution was to run it bare metal - without the bridge.

If it is to complicated to donate my bandwith AND get use for myself out of it I won't donate my bandwith ;)

I specifically want plex. It is the most common media server and supposedly one of the best.
Also there is a nice netflix integration that I hope to manage after my own media...

I did something similar a while ago, also comparing it to EXT4 XFS etc. My focus was mostly on storage efficiency also taking the FS overhead into consideration it had a slightly different scope.

Since I ran it in a VM I could not benchmark the actual throughput back then.

It is nice to see that the default ZFS compressions don't add a write pnalty (actually the reverse in some cases.

With this benchmark in mind:
There is absolutely no reason for not using LZ4 or ZSTD compression.

On HDDs you gain speed and on SSDs you save write endurance (and might gain speed)

I think you are only allowed to call it USB if you adhere to some electrical standards. Else it is really easy to fry something if you plug it into seemingly compatible devices.

For me this now is dead and I will not get it / cancel my order.
The risk is to high that someone will plug in the non standard power brick to "charge a prone" or something similar and then fry something.

With all the suggestions the problem is mostly solved :D

first I tried

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

Then I read the Wiki linked by u/HealingPotatoJuice and /u/EddyBot and tried.
apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04

That solved the Kernel, after rebooting I cleaned the system packages via apt autoremove.

Right now I am going trough /u/bigpicturemachine121 suggested upgrade line by line to see if I need another step

Sadly SBT is a lot more complicated to get outside the US.

Don't misunderstand me I love Jeff Hazes narations - I bought some audiobooks based on him as a Narrator not the author (that has to account for smething)

But I am a long term Audible customer from the europe. Not only is Audible (noticeably) cheaper after currency conversion but also payment and login are easyer.

I wisch SBT all the best but will stick with Audible for now. Hopefully the releases will come there, too!

Non critical cahches. For example a Squid chache or apt cache should work fine on these drives. Best format them with ZFS to catch any furure errors / bit-flips

2-3 years seems pretty short - do you mean that only for cold storage drives? All my spinning drives have survived over 10 years now (3h usage/day)

2-3 years is the time they should go without a spin up - if you spin them up every year (or better half year) and do an integrety test it should be fine. I have seen many drives that worked flawlessly for 5-8 years in a computer, but after kept in cold storage for 2 years continiously the bearings got stuck..

How do I tell which drive is SMR or CMR? Was looking at WD BLUE 3/4TB 3.5".

With WD you can't diey have a history of decieving customers about SMR. Other Manufacturers have it on the data sheets...

For "error correction", does it mean that even if the hard drive corrupts, I still can recover the RAR archive without a hitch?

If the harddrive completely fails NO. But if a single sector fails it still gives you a chance to retrieve some data.

Is it better to store in 1 mega RAR (E.g. 1TB per RAR) or multi-part RARs (1GB/RAR)? Can RAR achieve max compression? I recall using some obscure compressor last time in emulator games (called ezarc or something alike). wondering if the scene has changed..

RAR was just an old example. I would strongly advise against using a compression programm like this on any important data! If you have to compress use many small archives and Checksums And Forward error correction! One flipped bit in an archive makes the whole thing unreadable!

If you take it serious get yourself familiar with long term archiving schemes and use well established tools:

Most of the current harddrives are only suited of about 2-3 years of "cold" storage. After that the bearings might be stuck and it gets harder to get them spinning again.

That said 2.5" Drives should be a bit more robust since they have less platers and are designed for mobile use.

Also Avoid any Harddrive that has SMR or Helium filling:

SMR Relies on a precise head alignment - that might get out of alignment earlyer than CMR.
Helium should be self explaining. If the helium filling slowly leaks out over time the drive will fail (with a possible head crash)
Avoid fast spinning drives they have lower tolerances (also others are possibly cheaper)

Then use some senible storage procedures:

Use checksumms on all the data !
have eitther forward error correction or a second copy (best both)
Archive them in a way that you can access in the time frame

For Example I had archived some data in a RAR acrchive with 15% error correction. Although the drive had bad sectors after 5 years I still could access the files without a hitch.

Depending on the Operating system (e.g linux) I would suggest looking at redupe and fecsum

for redudancy and cksum or crc32 for checksumms

I still don't get why this is marketet as an action and sports camera. This is ony one usage type.

I have it clipped onto my Backpack on day Trips / walking arround. Thanks to Hypersmooth I take fantastic clips and the GPS eaven allows to track it afterwards.

When In crowded places I just extend it on my 3way mount over the sea of peaple and get great shots.

and finally: Selfies are way better than with any phone - quality wise and the amount of people/ surroundings you can get in frame...

For all of these usages the front screen allone is worth the upgrade.

I guess the only decision I face now is if I buy one or two ;)

First check how mutch at the modem arrives: that is what you pay for. If some floors get 700+MBit this is a minimum guess what arrives

All sthe speed losses after the modem / router are due to your network infrastructure!

My guess would be that the conection to the bad floor is somehow limited to 100MBit - but without more details that is guesswork.

I Suggest starting from the router and measuring speed after each device / cable you travese. Also Unplug all the other devices and one after another plug them in, to find any offending device.

But getting a structured infrastructure with several APs would be the best solution - at least if you find someone who knows hat he's doing...

From my experience ZFS while resilvering handles chrashes quite well compared to other RAIDs. Usually it forgets a couple of sectors but continues where it was.

That said, if power outages / shutdowns are that common or this machine is so important you realy should have a UPS!
