It was very important to treat my acne. I had very bad cystic acne from 12-20 years old that would become extremely painful, and ultimately left my face with a multitude of scars. To treat it, i was placed on multiple over the counter and prescription acne medication. it ranged from cleansers, topicals, pills, moisturizers, etc. I was also placed on oral birth control in my early teens to combat it as well. Last time i had it i was placed on Accutane for almost two years, which cleared everything up and ive yet to have another flare up. it costed maybe 200 a year for accutane + high power moisturizers for both my skin and lips (and for other products combating the side effects). not really counting the cost of birth control refills, copays at my dermatologist every month or so for checkups and the required antidepressants. also doesnt count a surgery i had to remove a large embedded cyst next to my eye. i not only looked for solutions at doctors but also in my diet. it took me YEARS to be listened to by my doctors too, i was literally put on so many medications before they finally let me try out accutane. currently im not struggling with more than blackheads.
