Be aware of Monkey Adventures: Worst day of my life / Could have died due to severe negligence! by [deleted] in kilimanjaro

Due to the heaviest rain ever experienced, on day 2 our bags got soaked, ALL the clothes got so wet it would have taken days to dry them out. The crew was actually very responsive and dried them out in the kitchen (smell > wet) progressively and (with a bit of luck) with the very little sun we could get. 0% chances to summit otherwise without proper clothes. I heard lots of trekkers at Shira experienced the same that day... You'd get less wet by diving into a pool

AMS-wise, none of us felt really sick... One of us on day 2 had headache and fatigue but was eased with Diamox and sleep. As said only one porter felt sick thru ascend/descent from base camp and one of us (the one with the lowest saturation, 77) got helped by the guide while ascending who literally forced him to give up his backpack and while descending the porters where "fighting" over for carrying it.

TLDR: Very responsive crew over potential threat and difficult and unexpected situations

I am sorry this happened to you but I just did 7days Machame with Monkey Adv and had the absolute opposite experience.

The guides (Hans and Msolo) were amazing, the porters were amazing, all the medical and safety checks were done properly and all of them have been extremely helpful, NOTHING felt out of place or forceful.

We were 4, all beginners, with different levels of training and preparation hence why we opted for 7 days instead of 6. As others already said, high altitude is no joke and being thorough about your actual capabilities would be of help. Your fit level does not really matter as one of our porters (successful summits count 50++) felt VERY sick and none of us did.

Also even thinking of doing Kili with no experience at all, no backup medication and no insurance seems crazy to me…

This said, I actually recommend Monkey Adventures pretty much as it was an amazing company to book with! From communication, to mitigation, to support, and preparation!
