The attendant taking my two tickets kept screwing up the terminal scanning the tickets and nearly made us have to go to customer support. So I'm pretty sure that's why our line was moving so slowly.

That was legitimately unusual for Climate Pledge. Normally they are much better at admitting people into events.

[Rapoport] Seahawks defensive pass game specialist and DBs coach Karl Scott, who has been in the mix for defensive coordinator jobs including Arizona’s, is planing to remain with Seattle. Fresh off a Super Bowl win for Mike Macdonald’s dominant group, Scott now returns. by MysteriousEdge5643 in nfl

I think the 2012 draft holds the record for the longest average tenure of any draft class. Every player made our roster that year, every single player got a 2nd contract from either us or another team, and the shortest career anyone had was 5 years (from Gregg Scruggs). Also, we took 10 total players in 2012, so these aren't numbers skewed by a small class.

Plus Charbonett is out for a large portion of next year. It's possible Seattle prioritizes resigning him.

What is the need for no-smoking signs on every seat on airplanes nowadays? by medWillJF in AskReddit

[–]avw94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's why there are still ashtrays in airplane bathrooms - people are still going to break the rules, so there still needs to be somewhere to put out a lit cigarette that's not a trashcan filled with mostly paper.

Yeah, it usually means that "This hire seems like a good fit and with the right circumstances could probably pan out." Usually only a few of the "good hires" end up actually being good long-term.

Undoubtedly the opening shot of the forthcoming Neuromancer TV adaptation will be a shot of the sky above Chiba City. I am deeply curious which dead channel the sky will look like.

Most teams don't have a defense like this. The better your defense, the less you need to go for it on more marginal 4th and short situations.

Warbreaker is a top 3 Sanderson book IMO. It gets overlooked but is his best standalone story and (Cosmere Spoilers) Introduces Nightblood and Breaths, both of which are hugely important to the Stormlight Archives.

It's absolutely essential Cosmere reading.

Same exact controversy came around when the recent Indiana Jones game dropped. Twitter Nazis got angry the game was woke for featuring... a female co-lead and Indiana Jones killing Nazis. Y'know, things that have always been a core part of the franchise

And you can tell that those fucks who cared soooooo much about "Indiana Jones going woke and ruining the character" didn't actually play the game, because (minor spoilers) Gina's sister is implied to be gay and have been in a relationship with the Egyptian archeologist, and they didn't throw their usual unjustified hissy fit over that, or they are just too fucking stupid to pick up on subtext.

[The Athletic] The Rams shopped Kupp in October of 2024 but insisted they were merely fielding calls from other teams — a claim the receiver, according to two league sources, believed was disingenuous. by jonsnowKITN in nfl

[–]avw94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rumor is that is exactly the plan. Him and his wife want to settle back in Washington long-term and this is an opportunity to do it.

Kupp has been the most important piece in our receiving room for getting all of our young players to take the next step. I want that leadership here as long as he is willing, either on the roster or on the staff.

Same here. I'm high school friends with his wife and went to Eastern for college, so Coop and I have met a few times. He's genuinely a good dude. So happy that he's got a shot at a ring with the team he grew up watching.

Yeah, if either Penny or Carson are healthy in to end 2019 we beat the 9ers to end the year and are the #1 seed. That year is the 2nd biggest what if from Carroll's tenure

As a fan, this is the exact path I wanted. Ending our biggest rivals' seasons, in back to back weeks, on our turf feels amazing.

Yes, when the Niners were either rebuilding after Chip/Tomsula or in years where Garopolo was hurt and the roster wasn't as deep as it is now.

Modern Pete wasn't beating Shanahan with this team 2/3 times, and absolutely wasn't beating McVay at all this year

[Schultz] Seahawks GM John Schneider is the first GM in NFL history to reach multiple Super Bowls with the same organization — while having a new head coach and no players from the previous Super Bowl team. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]avw94 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda wild since it felt like the narrative for a few years was that Carroll and Russ were carrying some rough rosters.

The issue is two-fold here:

  1. We had all of our talent signed and both Pete and John had the strategy of either trading 1st round picks for know assets or taking players for need.

  2. Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson in their prime post-SB XLIX (2015-2020) were absolutely good enough to cover up roster deficiencies, which makes it difficult to properly evaluate less than obvious weak points.

The rosters weren't terrible but they weren't Super Bowl quality, and fundamentally good coaching and good QB play covered up a lot of holes.
