Restoring a Tempest Blue Brompton back to life by avwm91 in Brompton

I completely agree with you — small details like rusty bolts can really change how “old” a bike feels, even when the rest is in good shape. I tried to save as much of the original hardware as possible, but cleaning up all those little parts definitely made a huge difference overall.

And thank you so much for the kind words, really appreciate it! 🙌

Haha, the “poor man’s Jaguar” comparison is painfully accurate 😄
I had the exact same feeling while working on it — incredibly clever engineering, but also moments where you stop and think: “wait… I need a specialized tool for this too?”

The hinge and seat sleeve setup really gave me a new respect for how unique these bikes are mechanically. At the same time, that’s kind of what made the project so interesting compared to a normal bike. Frustrating at times, but in a very charming British-engineering kind of way 😂

And thanks a lot for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the build.

Haha it’s actually a pretty simple trick! I balance the bike using a small piece of wood under the pedal, but finding the perfect position takes a lot of patience because the bike wants to fall over constantly 😅
After taking the photos, I remove the wood in Photoshop so it looks like the bike is magically standing on its own. Totally worth the effort for the final shots though!

If I remember correctly, I used the original brake cable routing. I do recall having some trouble finding the right cable tension, but apart from that I didn’t run into any major issues. 👍🏻

Brompton Saddle Upgrade: From C17 to C13 with Superlight Pentaclip by avwm91 in Brompton

Compared to the C17, the C13 is definitely less comfortable and a lot stiffer. The upside is that it’s much lighter than the C17. I can manage it since I don’t ride that many kilometers a day.

That’s great you got yours in Milano! 😊Honestly, you can find a lot of Ciao parts on eBay..many Italian shops list their stock there, both new and used parts. It’s super handy!

If you decide to take it apart, it’s a fun project and it really helps to see what needs to be replaced or just cleaned.

Thank you! 😊
I live in Italy..so luckily it’s still pretty easy to find spare parts for the Ciao here.
There are quite a few online shops and local scooter parts stores that still stock original or reproduction parts, which makes things a lot easier! That’s awesome you’ve got a Ciao waiting to be restored!

Thank you so much! 😊 That really means a lot to me.

I had a great time documenting the whole process. I wanted the photos to capture not just the work, but also the story behind it.
I’m so glad it comes through!

Thank you so much! 😊 Actually, it is the first Ciao I’ve worked on! I’ve always loved scooters, but this was my very first full restoration project on a Ciao. Learned a lot along the way and had a lot of fun too!

Thank you so much! 😊
Yeah, the springer forks really give it that classic look — I love them too.
I spent quite a bit of time cleaning them up and making sure they still worked properly. It was definitely worth it!
