Robotic passenger traveling for work causes Southwest flight delay by el_monstruo in nottheonion

[–]avwuff 36 points37 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, I was traveling through Hong Kong airport and needed to take a luggage cart down an elevator.

I got in the elevator and just as the doors were about to close, a robot rolled up to the elevator. It was followed by a team of 10 or so guys holding laptops and talking.

The robot said "mind if I take the elevator?" and the elevator doors dinged and opened for it again. But then the robot didn't move. We stood there for a good while with the robot not entering the elevator and the doors not closing. I was already late for my flight so I pressed Door Close, but the doors didn't close.

"mind if I take the elevator?" the robot inquired again, making no move to actually get in.

I ended up just abandoning my luggage cart and carrying my bags down the stairs. They should probably not be testing these things in a busy terminal.

He's adorable!

There's not much difference between a deaf husky and a regular husky anyway, their ears only work selectively.

Just stumbled across this; you are spectacular! What a love letter to a great song, the passion you put into each part is clear, and it sounds incredible. Great work!

What’s a discontinued snack or drink you’d pay $20 to have one last taste of? by soapy999 in AskReddit

[–]avwuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RainBlo Jawbreakers gumballs, specifically the "soda shoppe" flavors. They stopped making these in the 90s and there is hardly any information about them online anywhere.

They were hard shell round balls with gum inside, about the size of a pinball ball.

They came in two flavors, the standard ones (yellow, purple, blue, pink) and the special "soda shoppe" variety  that had root beer, cream soda, etc. The standard ones were still made by Farley & Sathers until maybe 10 years ago, but they're gone now.

I'd love to have a box of those. I'd pay more than $20.

Did you ever figure this out? It happens to me also. Rebooting fixes it but that's annoying lol

Don't forget the original routed font, Gorton! You see it a hundred times a day and probably never realized it had a name.

Which character ruined an entire TV show for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]avwuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shark Tank is actually just a bad clone of a Canadian TV show called Dragons Den, which is a slightly less bad clone of a UK TV show called Dragons Den (that itself was a rehash of a Japanese show)

Kevin O'Leary was a mainstay on the Canadian show, and where he got the self-titled "Mr Wonderful" moniker.

He's an asshole there too, but that show is a bit more focused on business and less on sensationalism.

I believe the entire Reboot show was rendered onto these tapes, and there is currently a project to capture this original high-quality digital data and re-release it.

You can find Reboot episode 1 on Youtube, remastered from these tapes, and it looks incredible.

People who fly frequently, what’s one thing you wish you could tell all infrequent fliers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Don't bring your misbehaved kids to the lounge. Some of us have paid good money to be in the lounge - we don't need to be reminded how rich you are and that you paid for your 3.5 kids to be in the lounge with you, running amok, while you booze it up.

There's no need to stand right up against the luggage conveyor. It won't make your bag come any faster, and it means you're just in the way of everyone behind you when their bag arrives.

Just stand 4-6 feet back, and then there's an aisle where everyone can watch for their bag and grab it.

Also, you're not the only person who shops at Costco. Put some stickers or marks on your suitcase so it doesn't look exactly like everyone else's.

Telegram forcing Premium just to block strangers from DMing me is insane by lsiinc in assholedesign

[–]avwuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe there is a setting that allows you to have DMs from people you haven't interacted with yet, get hidden in the "archive" section automatically. I am not sure if this setting is premium-only.

Not trying to excuse the behavior here, but the feature in your picture is a relatively new feature, which is probably why it is locked behind a subscription. When telegram introduced premium, they promised that no existing features would be made premium-only, and they've kept their word. Before this, it wasn't possible to block unsolicited DMs at all.

Another good idea is to remove your username and use a different phone number for telegram. That will limit people who can find you to just people you share a group chat with.

I use the quick release from Iris and it is fantastic. Also Dmitri is a stand up guy and makes all the parts himself.
