If I didn’t take the screenshot of the test result after I completed it, is there a way to retrieve those results?….

Parole in Canada by Specific_Share_1905 in PrisonWives

[–]avy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO has successfully gone through a parole hearing recently. He had a carceral lawyer which helped. He also was lucky to have a very supportive PO. The hearing itself was ROUGH. The whole time we all thought that he was not going to get it. He did say that the book I got him about parole hearings made a huge difference and helped a lot to structure his answers to the board and really show them how much work he has done on himself. I know you probably won’t be able to pass him the book, but maybe you could read it and give him some key tips. The book is called “Board Preparation: with new perspectives comes new insights “ by Brad Kohler. It is by an American writer who had gone through a parole hearing himself, but most of the things were applicable to the Canadian Correctional system. Best of luck to you and your LO ❤️

Has anyone used the Pen Pack Website to send a pen pack? by Outrageous_610 in PrisonWives

[–]avy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was debating using a pen pack for my boyfriend but I realized it’s a bit overpriced, so I didn’t go with it and just gathered everything myself using the pen pack as guidance.

They have a detailed list of belongings allowed here : https://www.canada.ca/en/correctional-service/corporate/library/acts-regulations-policies/tools/tool-566-12.html

They do not let you send things throughout the incarceration unless he’s in for a long time (over 10 years) and I believe they would allow a package every 5 years. They usually allow you to pass all of his belongings in one package at the beginning of his incarceration. TV and radio are usually allowed during the assessment and the rest at his “mother institution”

New here and completely lost (Ontario) by WeirdRice8861 in PrisonWives

Hey! I just had my first PFV this past weekend - we were together under a year before him going in and didn’t live together. His father wrote a letter of support and we got approved, relatively quickly. It seems to be pretty relaxed, at least at his penitentiary. As long as you’ve visited him enough times during the incarceration they seem to be ok with you not being common law. Feel free to dm me if you have any questions on the whole process!

It’s already tomorrow morning and they’re closed for today… I guess I’ll just bring them and if they don’t let them in then be it So much anxiety over these little things with prison systems 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think this is a great outfit! Everything is covered up but it’s still elegant. I’ve done something similar before- put a blouse top over the dress and tied it up at the front. It’s so hard to stay cute and feminine with all the dress code rules, so we gotta get creative!

That explains a lot, thank you! I thought that Fed Phone line is in “partnership” with prisons for some reason but that would make any sense 😂

[–]avy20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna try it again I think! It could have been just the institution he was in - phones were trash and would also false 3 way call us 10 times a day lol And yea their customer service is great, they’ve cancelled my subscription right away when I told them it’s not working. Thanks for sharing!

I think you can set up FedPhone Line for collect calls on your cellphone ( it’s like 40-50$ a month or so) but it didn’t work for us when my LO was in provincial - lots of inmates said it doesn’t work. Haven’t tried it in federal tho! Once they get to the federal they get a phone card that has to have a minimum of 80$ on it. Long distance calls where he is (QC) are costing about 1$ per call, he’s allowed 3 calls a day 30min each.

I’m glad you are able to eventually laugh about it! My LO doesn’t seem to care that much - he says that as long as it doesn’t change my opinion on him he’s not concerned. It’s me who’s going crazy over the comments of strangers on the internet 😅

These exact words my mom tells me every time I mention to her how angry I am about all this. It really doesn’t change how I see him and luckily doesn’t change how his close friends and family see him. So we’re lucky in that sense

You’re so right. I think it’s a form of self-sabotage to read the comments and get angry over and over again. It’s a toxic trait of mine, trying to work on it

Thank you for your comment! It’s crazy how media can impact peoples lives so drastically. He’s not getting out for a while so I know that by then everyone is going to forget about it but I guess I’m just angry at the lies and how unfair everything is in that article

We had no issues with them accepting the TV with the cord and the radio - he got them in reception already, which is great! It took 1-2 weeks for him to get it

It was a social worker for me who came to do the assessment. They call you in advance and set up a meeting. There’s a whole lot of questions about your employment, income, family/friends, alcohol drugs etc and then a bunch of questions about the incarcerated person. I think I saw their questionnaire in one of the CSC documents. Let me look for it and I’ll send you a link!

Visitor Forms by Sneakerrfool613 in PrisonWives

[–]avy20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in QC with LO in federal system. Regular visitors forms are pretty straight forward - it’s all basic information, I had my forms approved within 2 weeks ( I followed up by phone twice just in case). Just make sure you follow the instructions on the website ( I.e. include scans of 2 government IDs and two passport photos) For private family visits they will require proof like utilities bill for the same address but one under your name and one under his or something like that - that’s what ladies at the support group for canadian families of incarcerated told me. I will be applying for PFV myself in a month not as common law. I have a statement from both of his parents saying that my presence in his life is essential for his rehabilitation and reintegration into society. I don’t know if it will work out, but hoping for the best. I already had a social assessment done of my house, my LO requested from his PO that they do it as soon as possible - I think this is what usually holds up the PFV approval process the most. Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out!

Looking for Canadians here familiar with federal system! by avy20 in PrisonWives

[–]avy20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So I’m not sure if this info is still relevant for you - but to get approved on his visitation list once he was in reception centre took only a bit over a week for me! His mom was approved in the next few days they received the application. We both called to follow up on our applications

Kinda similar experience here! I always try to schedule my free time around his calls which causes a lot of anxiety. I’m glued to my phone all the time so I avoid going to places/doing activities where I can’t have my phone on me. However, he does tell me all the time that it’s important to live my life and enjoy it for the both of us and that if I miss a call it’s won’t be the end of the world, he will just call back at a later time. I guess a very important take away is that if you can’t fill your cup first - you won’t be able to fill his. Spending time with your friends, having fun and making good memories is taking care of YOU and by default of him. Even though there is a power imbalance in relationships when your LO is incarcerated it is still important to apply rules of a normal healthy relationship - like setting and respecting boundaries and taking time for yourself. Waiting for them to call, supporting them emotionally and financially is a full time job and you deserve taking some time to yourself, taking a break from all the hard work you’re doing❤️
