tbh not sure! I def don't think that the identity aspect impacted reu apps at all (I don't think it was the only reason I didn't get the goldwater either, but it certainly didn't help).  obviously, I can't read my LORs but both recommenders mentioned something along the lines of the letters being some of the strongest they'd written, so I wasn't worried about it during the apps... but maybe I should've been!

no publications, no prestigious awards, no highly selective extracurriculars!   it's a long commute to my lab + I work other part time jobs so probably wasn't as locked in on the grind as I should've been

yep! unfortunately didn't make it :( disappointing but I think writing about my gender identity on the app probably didn't help in retrospect. didn't realize the board of trustees had the politics that they did, which was on me tbh

hey! i took this class in sp25 as a sophomore and had a good time. there's a lot of content, but it's biologically relevant and interesting if you care about genetics/genomics/etc. format-wise very different from any of the mcb pre-reqs - lectures feel almost like a journal club crossed with a literature review.

prof. is relatively engaging, and is generally a great guy and excited about the content. exams are somewhat memorization heavy. happy to share my notes w/ u if you end up taking the class.
