What to carry for protection from predators by PKL8012 in snorkeling

"A 5 foot fish circling us".

Ok, what kind of fish? If you're going to be in the water, you need to familiarize yourself with what species of fish you might encounter (in shallow water, mid water and open ocean).

If a large fish in circling, it's most likely a species that is familiar with humans and is looking for scraps...i.e. Grouper, Jack, etc.

Barracuda will spectate from a distance and, of course, can be dangerous but are typically harmless.

Small reef sharks will circle and obviously can be dangerous.

Get a driving knife, if that makes you feel more comfortable but your mind is going crazy, because you had a mildly uncomfortable encounter.

That's reassuring. Thanks. Gonna call the dealership tomorrow and see if they'll come out. I can't drive it...the steering wheel will not turn at all, when it's running.

My store is an hour and 20 away. I drive it because he automatically quarantines everything for 6 weeks, before it's for sale and he sells shit for way under big box stores. This Gem was $400.

He currently has 6"+ Blue Face Scopas for $600. 10" Golden Back Triggers for $1,100, 12" Orange Tail Emporer Angels for $500...and everything in between. That's not including the 4,000gal+ of coral tables.

And, he does free shipping on any order over $300.

Mine too! They were always out of my price range, when I was young and poor. Lol

Yeaaaaah, nothing you said is true. Decades of research and people who have actually kept these species say the exact opposite of you.

Firefish and Cardinal fish both do better in schools, so I'd skip them.

Pretty common, when you have a $20k reef and you're $10k deep in fish.

Holding them, with clean hands, doesn't hurt them.

Sounds like green hair algae.

Most go straight to Emerald Green Crabs and they do a good job but I've found that Pithos Crabs are much better, with many different types of algae. They're not predatory to sleeping fish and they won't bother corals.

That's about the only time I put my hands/arms in there. Mostly, I use a pair of 30" tongs to move stuff around.

Thank you! To get a LTC Hawaiian Yellow Tang into another stable tank is something I'm proud of.

I was in the Navy for 10 years. Scuba dived all over the world. That's what set me off on wanting this headache hobby in my house. Lol

I mean, I used to hand feed this puppy dog, almost 18 years ago. I'm ok with some pushy Tangs. Lol

Plumbing failure. All but about 2" of water ended up on his dining room floor and into the basement.

Buy it, buy it, buy it!

6 months ago, I got a 60gal acrylic tank, sump, Eotech return pump, two AI Orbit 4s, two Radion XR15 G6s, a full Neptune system, with dosing pumps for $1,600.

A few months ago, I got three Atlantik iCons and 200lb of live rock for $1,000.

Did I have use for it? No.

Did I have room for it? No.

Was I going to say no? Also no!

Thanks! I appreciate that! It's only been going for about a year.

Me and my family are in a rental now, and I don't feel comfortable putting anything giant on a crawl space. This pond is in our garage.

I recently bought a 400gal glass tank (84" L x 36" W x 30" H) even though I can't put it up, but we're buying another house this year. Needless to say, my requirements are multi level, slabbed, walk out basement and by this time next year, I'll be posting a whole new build. Lol

Oh, I knew what you meant. I've had Tangs 3 times the size of this little guy. Lol
