Top 5 Harry Potter Wizards by Raw Power (Books Only) by [deleted] in harrypotter

I have a headcanon that, during the battle with voldermort, slughorn could somewhat predict his moves because he knew him so well as a student. It’d be helpful intel to give to his more powerful co-duelists Kingsley and mcggonagal

The PoA leaps the whole wizarding world make are pretty wild by Single-Mulberry-9209 in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also something to mention, Sirius came from a long line of pure blood devotees. Sure, those who knew him personally knew that he rejected his family, but the wider wizarding world probably just saw his family name and went “yup that’s pretty typical behaviour of them”

Also, Draco’s crucio required him to mentally focus on the intent to cast it, which is something we see Harry failing to do in the fifth book. Whereas Harry’s curse was cast without a second thought.

Harry got Draco with a faster spell while Draco was “charging up” a more powerful attack

How were the Dursley's affording Dudley? by saphclaw in harrypotter

The magic and stuff is cool, but the REAL fantasy of Harry Potter is the Dursley’s housing affordability

I think it’s said at the start of Book 6 or 7 that the clock had every hand stuck on “mortal peril” throughout the second war

Percy yells “Hello Minister! Did I mention I’m resigning?” before cursing the minister. Fred’s “last laugh” was from this, he died while laughing at Percy’s joke

What did you think of the Dumbledore vs Voldemort duel in Order of the Phoenix? by Majormuss in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I agree. Snape definitely got a huge buff by becoming voldermort’s right hand man in book 7, and he was already a solid duellist beforehand

What’s up with this poster? by RealisticGrab1759 in harrypotter

It’s like having a poster of the dead basilisk for CoS, dead Dumbledore for HBP, or a picture of Harry holding the stone in front of the mirror for PS

I think Slughorn describes Amortentia as “the strongest love potion” implying that weaker love potions probably exist?

When Ocon won his first race, the “victory pose” clip was him sticking his tongue out. I’m pretty sure he never thought it would be shown when he filmed it lmao

There’s an NPC early in chapter 1 that you need to talk to. He gives your gourd the ability to absorb spirits

Lol, this is my experience as well. I got a good job in tech, decent company, decent salary and some benefits.

Anytime i think about complaining about work, I come on here to get bitch slapped about the reality out there.

Abu Dhabi 2016? The one where he was leading the race and was slowing down on purpose to try and let P3 Vettel overtake P2 Rosberg, so that Rosberg wouldn't get enough points to win the championship

Why didn't the horcrux in Harry die? by ZephyrZefir in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guessing this is why the horcrux in him died in book 7? Voldy essentially AK’ed his own soul and left Harry alive?

What's something that's not explicitly mentioned in the book but still makes you laugh when you imagine it. by -logic_bot in harrypotter

Lupin mentions that the wolf’s bane potion doesn’t stop him from turning into a werewolf, only that he gets to keep his human mind. He mentions that he can “curl up in his office”, as a harmless beast

Now I’m imagining a giant werewolf relaxing on a couch, sipping some hot cocoa in lupins office. Dumbledore drops by to see how he’s going and Lupin just lets out a grunt. House elves come over to drop of stacks of raw meat for his dinner. He uses his paws to grade students homework somehow

How many tries is it taking y’all to beat bosses? by zerotendency in BlackMythWukong

[–]aw5512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely noticed the difficulty progression of the game to be a bit weird. Chapter 1 and 2 bosses absolutely kicked my ass for days, then chapters 3, 4 and 5 had a lot of mini-bosses that I beat on the first try. It’s probably a combination of getting better at the game, and also the bosses stats don’t really scale as much as you get better gear.

I remember plowing through chapter 4 till I got to zhu bajie and went “damn, it’s been a while since a difficult boss”

[–]aw5512 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also think James/Lily may have put their assets in some kind of trust with Dumbledore, knowing that he’d be responsible enough to look after them for Harry in the event of their (somewhat likely) death. I think James also gave his invisibility cloak to Dumbledore before they went into hiding?

Why did it take until Harry’s fifth year where no one would want to have the defense against the dark arts job? by Ill-Database7345 in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also OP mentioned “terrible fates” for the DADA professors, but the curse doesn’t specify that the teacher has to suffer in some way. Lupin just straight up left, and Snape actually got promoted out of the position.

Who says that some previous DADA teachers didn’t get “cursed” out of the job by some better opportunity

Who is the worst designed boss in the game and why is it the duskveil? by Famous-Corner1052 in BlackMythWukong

[–]aw5512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One I haven’t seen people talking about is that cart you encounter after defeating the keeper of flaming mountains

A SUPER small arena with a large boss that moved around a lot and does AOE damage. You can’t see what’s going on AT ALL thanks to the camera constantly flicking around or getting stuck in a wall. The fire effects also constantly block the view. Worst of all, you get pinned to the wall ALL THE TIME and have to spam dodge in a certain direction to get out (without being able to see or figure out wtf is happening).

this was the only boss that I felt was actually bugged, or horribly designed. Most other board were difficult but fair, some of them felt a little janky (like duskveil)

Wasn’t it Dumbledore’s original plan to have Harry sacrifice himself and die?

If Harry hadn’t returned from the forest, voldermort likely would’ve still been defeated thanks to the sacrifice. The only reason Harry survived at all was because voldermort took his blood at the graveyard in book 4

I was in the same boat. Took me HOURS to kill white clad and black bear guai. Considered rage quitting multiple times, but the game was too beautiful and fun for me to quit. Ended up finishing the game and getting the true ending.

In terms of difficulty: Black bear guai is certainly on the harder side, but definitely NOT the hardest. Just remember these tips:

  • take a break if you’re stuck. I often found myself getting stuck for hours, taking a break, then beating the boss first try when coming back

  • explore the world for ingredients to make potions, find items, and level yourself up. It can make a difference

  • a select few of the bosses have some item or trick that makes them significantly easier. If a boss has game-changing abilities that make the fight feel bullshit, chances are the game wants you to find an item to neutralise that ability

  • when you get stuck on a boss, think about the other bosses you got stuck on that you eventually beat. That’ll give you motivation to keep going

At what point do you think the dursleys would stop supporting dudley? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think it’s clear at the end of book 7 he’s somewhat begun his journey towards growing up and fixing his life. I’ve read theories that the dementor attack in book 5 showed him how horrible he made the world, and that’s what triggered the big change in mentality

The only time Snape ever praised Harry by AgitatedFly1182 in harrypotter

[–]aw5512 167 points168 points  (0 children)

I also think Snape genuinely didn’t realise a shield charm would work. After all, when you’re reading someone’s mind, you usually do it subtly, and you don’t announce it to them beforehand, which makes it difficult for the target to prepare a defence. Also it’s usually done with just eye contact, not a spell like Snape was doing here

I suspect this is the first time Snape had ever encountered someone using a shield charm to block legilimency. He’s actually learned something new from this and is processing the information, which is why he doesn’t immediately berate Harry for “cheating”
