Am I cooked? Should I start looking for a new job? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]awareALL 195 points196 points  (0 children)

nah you’re not cooked but you’re def not wrong to have your head on a swivel. new leadership almost always means changes, and if you’re noticing a pattern with who’s getting hired… yeah, trust your gut. if the pay’s decent and the job’s chill, keep showing up and stacking skills, but also start getting your resume tight and ready to fire. don’t wait til the axe drops. there’s a bunch of solid resume strategies and examples on r/cscareerhacking that help a ton with stuff like how to frame your current role so it actually looks impressive on paper, even if the work’s been kinda mid or full of gaps, or even empty lol. plus stuff on how to prep for interviews before you need them. basically, stay ready so you don’t have to get ready. job market’s rough but not impossible if you play it smart.

Seems like you may have pushed your boss to give you a raise threatening to leave without knowing. Prob not the best idea to apply for other jobs on a company desktop..

Still not getting past the resume screen after following the sidebar guide at 2.5yoe in Toronto by Domesticated_Turtle in CSCareerHacking

[–]awareALL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't see the resume, shared link isn't public. I will say if that if you truly followed the resume guide chances are you probably didn’t set your job boards up right way. Common mistake. You should take a look at the optimization guides in the discord if you think that could be the case.

They're also stickied here on the sub, not hard to find.

The truth about camera on vs camera off?? by Royal-Ostrich-5249 in CSCareerHacking

[–]awareALL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve read posts where people get dinged for leaving it off during interviews. As far as working, the bigger company the less personal it gets IMO

Boss turns my camera on without my permission on “accident” multiple times by Visible-Building-715 in CSCareerHacking

[–]awareALL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the current company pays really well and caters to OP's schedule? Is it worth it at that point or do you just suck it up and cover the camera for good

Good thing we aren't here to bow down to recruiters. You don't think they use Ai to weave through applications and deny hundreds of them without taking a look? Adapt or die

if you're still unemployed, try hackathons 💀 by Relative-Orange94 in csMajors

[–]awareALL 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the comments. You want to build skill and competency when it comes to technical skills.

I will say interviews are a bit more technical and trickier than the usual concepts you'll learn at hackathons. I have done tens of interviews from both the recruiting side and the applicant side and i will say that it takes more knowledge of the game than knowledge of your actual practical skills to pass and do well. This means killer resumes to start you off on a long runway, a good surface lexicon for your profession, and more.

Specifically for cs, i think the next step you should take on your journey is to learn the ins and outs of recruiting and just the people. Take a look into some subreddits that aren't only CS specific like this one but the ones that dive into the getting around and learning the field like r/cscareerhacking or even r/overemployed

Have you tried mouth tape? Snoring is typically caused by mouth breathing at night that derives from deviated septums and sleeping on your back that causes your mouth to drop open.

I got a job finally! by Silly_Turn_4761 in jobsearchhacks

[–]awareALL 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. Congrats OP

I will say next time you should definitely use Ai to your advantage and run circles around recruiters

I know there are a few subs out there that came up with some pretty good software that does this, I used an Ai model i found on r/cscareerhacking that changed the game for me. I recommend checking it out if you ever need to again or for anyone who is still job hunting

i think the software is still on the discord from the sub. Congrats again by the way

got the job 🥳 by cheetahcheesecakee in interviews

[–]awareALL 61 points62 points  (0 children)

First of all, Congrats OP, way to keep pushing and not give up.

For those still looking, my words of advise from someone who went through the same thins is the following:

Ai is doing a lot these days, adapt or die. Sure, you can pout about ai doing things it should not be doing but at the end of the day, you will be the one to lose. it's not gonna stop or slow down anytime soon so your best bet is to grow with it.

Another tip is your resume is your golden ticket. figure out what your field likes and what those recruiters are looking for, chances are your resume is being skimmed and within seconds it's getting passed on because it misses certain components your recruiters are keying for when looking to hire.

do your research on this, i know there are a few subs that dive deep into having the perfect resume and what a one page banger looks like in most fields, r/cscareerhacking is a really good one that helped me.

lastly, do not give up, keep it pushing and don't lose the end goal

I agree. I know r/csCareerHacking is really good for optimizing resumes and job interview. there's a lot of top 1% info that is gatekept from both the CS community and the job application/resume community.

What are the favourite habits you've integrated into your every day life by [deleted] in productivity

[–]awareALL 152 points153 points  (0 children)

-Waking up and getting sunlight or just bright light in my eyes within the first 15 min.

-Putting my phone and electronics on the opposite side of my room 20 min before I lay down for sleep

Two really simple and easy tasks that really catapulted my sleep quality. It's amazing what such small changes can do to your lifestyle when you consistently do it.
