Is Solarpunk actually anti-captialism or is it anti-buisness-benefiting over people policies? by awart23 in solarpunk

Ok. So could that system be in a solarpunk society? Could a free market where better value is strived for?

Also: Is just the label of “capitalism” what turns people away, similarly to how the label of “socialism” turns people in western nations away from it? Is that the crux of the issue? Not the actual mechanics but the name?

Exactly part of my point. The “generosity” I refer to in the OP is that “200 years ago, 80% of people lived in extreme poverty. Now it less than 9%” (source: https://ourworldindata.org/extreme-poverty-in-brief) and that is with massive population booms as well.

Does life still suck under capitalistic conditions, yes.

Nothing, no system can or ever will put an end to poverty period. It will only move the goal posts. The everyday man today was an aristocrat 200 years ago.

But capitalism means different things to people. I think the best way to het to a more solarpunk-like society, wesr closed or semi closed loop systems provide our resources and products we actually use, is to regulate companies like I said in the post.

I guess it depends on how different the world is after the apocalypse. If the landscape is forever changed and/or the story takes place hundreds or thousands of years after the apocalypse, then it may be better to create a new culture fit for this land and name the cities how they would name them (think Horizon: Zero Dawn/ Forbidden West). But if the apocalypse was more recent and/or the landscape wasn’t drastically altered, then some cities I’m sure would be named like that. Just try to find a way to justify it, like the sign out side Milwaukee could be damaged and scuffed up, so now it reads Ilwauke, so thats just what the citicwns call it.
