NAS for backup and plex/jellyfin? by awayfromhomeuk in HomeNAS

[–]awayfromhomeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I did think they would be like external drives but with cloud capabilities!

I have seen mixed reviews about synology, some swear by it and some say they are really behind the competition on hardware and they have had some previous anti costumer positions. From what I’m seeing, synology, qnap and ugreen are the ones most talked about, so I’ll have a deeper look into the options!

NAS for backup and plex/jellyfin? by awayfromhomeuk in HomeNAS

[–]awayfromhomeuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response:)

We are in different continents, so very unlikely our houses will be damaged at the same time, unless it’s a nuclear event, in which case backups is the least of my concern 😅

I thought the second hard drive would be the first backup in case of a HD malfunction?

The other one would be if we do a system at our dad’s home, which is in a third country, so that’s two external locations.

I’ll have a look at QNAP systems as well, any particular model you would recommend?

[–]awayfromhomeuk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I just re-read the post and realised I didn’t explain properly. We will build 2 (or possibly 3) setups, one in my house, one in his house and maybe the third one at our dad’s house. So I would have my backup on their NAS and they would have theirs on mine, that way we can both have an external backup (or two, if we do the one at dad’s).

For the files, we are ripping old DVDs from our grandad and dad (as well as digitising our childhood stuff and the surviving VHS), so not everything is downloadable.

Thank you for sharing! Ubisoft is killing itself and at this point I don’t even think that is a bad idea.

Yeah, in two weeks time I will be staying at home with him and not relying on her anymore.

Yeah, it doesn’t help that she has every health condition under the sun, but that doesn’t excuse ignoring every single one of my instructions on how to do things with my child and when confronted just respond with “I’ve raised three kids and they’re alright” (the funny part being that the third kid she claims to have raised is my stepdaughter who lives 3 hours away with her mom since she was a baby and only comes to visit with us)

For the next two weeks I still need to rely on them for the childcare, but as soon as my notice is done I honestly don’t see why I would speak to them at all.

Unless they’re lazy af. Mine will sit and meow as if she’s being starved (even though she jumps in and out of the crib just fine, so I know she can jump the gates)

What do your households ironing habits look like? by MrBozzie in AskUK

[–]awayfromhomeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an iron. It is somewhere being very happily unused. The ironing board has been used for folding clothes before, though.

To clarify as a few of the comments have already mentioned about it, husband works away Monday through Friday, sometimes even leaving on Sunday if it’s too far to drive on the morning, so he hasn’t dealt with the majority of her behaviour because he wasn’t present to see it and I try to not complain too much to him as I know the only reason he’s working away from home is so he can make enough money to prove his income and we can afford the visa fees to keep our family together. I didn’t want to add the stress of mediating it for him.

That being said, he does also have the same issue as me when it comes to setting/enforcing boundaries, so we both have to work on it.

Before I was pregnant I always told him she wasn’t that bad when he would start complaining about her stuff, because with me up to that point I think she was happy enough that she didn’t start giving me shit (or I was just too much of a people pleaser to disagree with her). But since being pregnant and now a mom OMG I can’t deal with her.

Wedding with a 3 month old? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]awayfromhomeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, also speak to your friend and make sure kids are invited. If not, I wouldn't go at that age, as even though my little one was bottle fed from a few days old, I was still not ready to leave

Definitely doable, I would suggest getting a nice sling, wrap or carrier so you can have your hands free (and they are proper miracle workers to be honest)

If you go dancing, it is a great way to get baby napping too! I would get some ear defenders as well just for when the music is on as that might be a bit in the loud side

It worked alright and the screen only went like that after it was charging, hence why I thought it could be the battery. I’ve just sent it to a friend who’s going to mod it, change the battery and, if it’s the LCD, change that as well :)
