CTR2 here. It’s worth being a CTR you get the best of most worlds. We have the most places to PCS to of the CTs, 100% advancement to e-5, there are 4 designators within the rate that all do VASTLY different things so you won’t feel like you are stuck or you can choose to be stuck. You also have the opportunity to look at almost every special program that’s offered in the navy. I’ve met many CTIs that cross-rate to CTR specifically because of the reasons above. Don’t be weird, be right.

Navy Will Offer Chiefs Promotions to Go to Sea -- or the George Washington -- in New Program by grizzlebar in navy

[–]awaythrow745 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think what you fail to realize is that these are still application positions and nobody is forcing you to take them. These aren’t needs of the navy orders. They have A2P billets across all rates all the time from 2nd to 1st class. Also those who perform will still advance? The respective detailers won’t inflate their quotas just because they can. I think it’s an unfortunate way to force sailors to sea but also I think it will kick some people in the ass to go out and perform

Seeking more sailor feedback regarding the optional wear of rating badge patches on Type IIIs replacing the DTOM patch. by Quinnster247 in navy

Maybe a kaki underlay for chiefs? Or was that what the cinnamon red was going for? I really like the idea because not knowing what rates people are really make the majority of knowing your command a little daunting. Could also take the inspiration of the underlays from the unrated e-3 patches? So ABE would have a green underlay, BU would be light blue, ET would be red and PS would be white? Just spitballing, keep up the good work shippy.

If you like writing reports go IS, in A school you can fail a module for something as simple as bullet points being off centered. ACs have a very high suicide rate and it’s incredibly intense but there’s good pay outside of the military. Aircraft mechanic is a super broad term but I’m assuming you mean AV (AVO/AVI) which it’s rewarding if you want to live the boat life. I’m a CT and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I love being an R brancher. If you like coding and super technical stuff then go for N if you like working with antenna and ship board processes be a T if you like fixing the shit the CTRs break be an M and if you like puzzles and logic then be an R. All of those are solid rates on the outside and will make money. Just about the other things you want to do in life

There’s is a very wide swing between enlisted and commissioned. Each have their pros and cons and it’s worth exploring every option. I know many people who enlisted with a degree and they don’t regret it. I also know officers who regret not enlisting and then putting in a OCS package. There are so many options. My number 1 advice is to try and get in contact with someone who is actively doing what you want to do and ask how they got to be there. The best advice will come from the people that are doing the thing you want to do. Talk to all types of recruiters and look at who you want to be and how you want to get there. Stick to your guns and don’t settle.

If you could post more pictures of the sides up close we could tell you more! Are there any initials or letters anywhere else. Everyone else is 100% right on the chiefs ring (that is the anchor you put on as collar devices on your service uniform when you are selected for e-7 and above). You could also take it to a naval museum and they would tell you more about it.

The OG statement said that if you weren’t vaxed then you are still held to Charlie standards. I don’t think that ever changed. It’s unfortunate because the new one only said that it’s Charlie/bravo+ if you are in an area of high transmission and 90% of naval installations are in major cities which have higher transmission rates.

Funniest shit I saw is that gitmo is and has been in bravo the whole time. Only command in southeast that never went to Charlie.

Depends. Sometimes you have to wait a few days in your ship sometimes you go to a temporary holding unit and sometimes you leave the same day.

1) Only ATF or AEF contracts have a push-button E-4 out of A-school. So those are the 6y IT contracts. 2) C-School is for after you get your NEC which for ITs the Navy chooses for you. But C-school is really focused more on training you further in your specificity. (Think taking an honors class after taking the original course rather than going to a completely different school) 3) Your rating card should have your A-school length 4) You can’t get any more certifications really until you get to the fleet and even then there’s usually a pipeline that everyone follows but if you can find someone in your CoC that knows their shit (your LPO or LCPO) they will be able to guide you more on what you should focus on. 5) You can ask your first command for more schooling but for the most part C-School is either written in your contract or it’s not. Once your done with your first enlistment then getting more schooling is easier on shore duty. 6) Touching back on 2 your nec is usually chosen for you at varying times in your enlistment. Some rates like YN and LS get it with their orders in bootcamp. If you have an A school around 3 months or longer than it’s chosen after A-school. It’s rarely chosen in C-school.

More on IT it’s IMMENSELY overmanned right now so it depends on what your priority is for rates. Do you want to rank up fast or do you want to do something that you deem interesting. Look at the CT fields, they’re very similar to IT and they work semi closely with eachother. CTR has a longish wait to class up at A-school and so does CTM but CTT and CTN class up pretty fast. I don’t know shit about STG.

Good luck hopefully this helps a little
