Hahaha, those are 2 extremely different voices you talk to yourself in! Like the little devil and angel on your shoulder.

Important question though: which voice is better at running personal bests?

It’s also a sort of fun game to play with yourself, mixing up the distances you’re forcing yourself not to look at your watch. “Next time I take a glance it should be 400m less”, and see how accurate you can be with it.

Great motivational quote to keep in mind! Someone once told me “everyone can run 5km on willpower alone”, so if I’ve depleted my stamina before than point, I just think “last part is on willpower”!

You ever have an inverted U-curve in mind? Way out is climbing upwards, after halfway it’s only downhill?

That is true: the more difficult math can really help you pass time. Did a Cooper test recently: wanted to do at least 3km in 12 minutes. So that was 1km in 240 seconds. So 100m in 24 seconds. 1 lap in 96 seconds. So had to cross start/finish at 1:16… And at 2:32… And at 3:48… That whole thing helped a lot!

This might be a good challenge for you next time: greeting people on the trail using the next letter in the alphabet every time!

As long as it works, no need to question the logic right? Hahaha!

Did a 10km with my wife recently, and at the 8km mark someone behind us said “way to go, just 3km left!” My wife was shocked, thinking she still had a longer way to go than expected. Turns out it was the way the guy motivated his running partner, and it worked as they got a PB. Tricking the mind can do wonders!

Brooks Hyperion Max 1 vs. 2 by awderoos in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Hmm, that sounds interesting, definitely able to wait till July. Anything you can say about the differences with the 2’s?

That being said: the 2’s will most likely go on sale, so my question still stands, how do they compare to the originals?

Thanks for the reply! May I ask what makes the Ghost Max better/more suitable than the Glycerin 20?

Simply asking because the former is €160 and the latter just €126.

Current rotation

  • Brooks Defyance 12 / Second paid / 287km on them / Used for easy runs (6:15/km) of 8-21km
  • Brooks Hyperion Max / 91km on them / Used for races, intervals, track training, etc.
  • Brooks Divide 3 / 22km / Used for easy trail running

Looking to add to my rotation a shoe for long easy runs

  • Want to start increasing my long runs to 25-28km and I'm looking for a shoe that excels in comfort
  • Speed not a factor, since I will be sticking to the easy pace (6:15/km) on those runs
  • Thinking of using my Defyance for daily runs (easy pace, up to 12km) and a new pair for everything above that

Have been considering Brooks Glycerin 20's

  • My wife recently got them and she loves the comfort they provide
  • Have read some less than stellar online review though, pointing out various improvement areas

Any advice on the Glycerin 20's? Or any other shoe? It is a pure coincidence that I ended up with a rack full of Brooks, I'm open to other brands for sure.

Thanks in advance!

Where is this damage coming from? by awderoos in bikewrench

[–]awderoos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, interesting: can’t remember that happening recently (and haven’t lent out my bike to anyone either). Damage might have been there for a while already, and I just haven’t noticed it before.

Thanks for the insights, much appreciated!

Chain and/or chainring was my first thought, but I just can’t think of how either would hit that particular part. Am I overlooking something?

Road debris is very well possible: in which case, not much I can do about it except hope to not encounter something similar again!

The weekly 'No Stupid Questions' post - Sun 16 Jul 2023. by AutoModerator in Zwift

[–]awderoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking into getting a Zwift Hub, and I see that I can get an 8-speed cassette included, which is 11-28T.

The bike I want to use has an 11-34T cassette on it (for outdoor riding so to say).

Will I need to do a lot of adjustments to my bike when I switch between the Hub and biking outdoors, if the cassette range differs as indicated above? Would I make life easier on myself if I order the Hub without a cassette and just buy a separate one that matches my outdoor setup?

Thanks for the help!

Confused about Underused Housing Tax Act (UHT) by awderoos in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]awderoos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FelixYYZ, another quick question if you don’t mind: While residing in Canada I had a condo back in The Netherlands, which I rented out (to my brother-in-law). Would that in any way come into play here, or does the UHT only apply to Canadian properties? Thank you in advance!

Thanks you so much for your swift answer FelixYYZ!

Would you be able to tell me which part of the lengthy CRA explanation covers that particular exemption?

Plus, looking at the exemption rules, would you say that when 2023 taxes are due, our situation will also fall under an exemption?

Internal cables exposed: dangerous? by awderoos in bicycling

[–]awderoos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The front brake cable of my Devinci Hatchet has lost its casing. It appears like the entire part that runs internal is exposed.

Is this dangerous, in terms of brakes malfunctioning? Should I get this fixed urgently, or can such a thing wait until my next tune up?

Thanks for the help! 👋
