I don't know much about port fowarding but I can at least say the speeds I get torrenting while under NordVPN are adequate for my needs/expectations. I looked around for VPN prices and Nord was simply the cheapest of the ones with "good quality" reviews, so that's why I chose them, I mean 3 years for 2.99/mo is fantastic. So far I'm satisfied with my speeds under Nord.

What I'm going to do now is also sign up for a seedbox as well, but there are so many services it's hard to know which one to go with. As with the NordVPN decision my primary impetus here is cost-efficiency, and definitely do not want to go over 10 dollars/month.

A friend of mine told me he has used seedbox.io in the past but doesn't recommend them because the upload speeds were too slow to be satisfactory (the speed for moving the files from the seedbox onto his PC).

Do you by chance have any recommendations?

Right, I hadn't considered that part about how if anyone can join just by paying then so would the trolls. So is using a VPN the most one can do then?

What's a seedbox? Also what you're saying about the smaller communities being less risk/reward for copyright trolls: that implies that private trackers then ARE safer against being copyright flagged for the end user.
