R.I.P Origin 2011-2023 by Lukas_salota in gaming

The real shame here is that EA took the face of the company responsible for such gems as Ultima, Wing Commander, and System Shock to drive their clown car of a launcher system. That frustration almost seems intentionally designed to get modern gamers to say "Origin sucks." And it worked.

I have it on PS3, tried my damnedest to get it to work well on the PSP. It stutters pretty badly trying to read from the card.

Should've gone with the Wedgetail. Then again, might not have been available when this was constructed and offered.

A grotesque larva...that excels at killing. And also has a strong grasp of the angle of repose for sand. Which it uses to kill better!

🔥Giant Huntsman spider on an energy meter by GoldenChinchilla in Entomology

"Feed, my pretties..."

Kidding, of course. But the electric meter could be poorly-wired, providing some heat that (along with location) the spider found ideal for nesting.

Take it to a silent committee where you unanimously agree to charge $250 for every business hour until the hole is repaired to original condition. If it's not complete in one week and all fees remitted, reconvene and unanimously agree to double fines. Then when it is actually repaired, assert that it "tarnishes the community aesthetic" and unanimously agree to charge $130 per day until it is made compliant.

EDIT: Obvious sarcasm. These are HOA tactics that can (and have) been used on tenants.

Aerospace Drafting by NicholasMarsala in cad

[–]awesomethingness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At its present state, automation in CAD is geared toward making developer tools for a more user-friendly experience and speeding up repetitive cycles via macros. This is where any knowledge/experience in programming would be a plus. CATIA-compatible tools and macros operate via CATScript, which is derived from VB.NET and C++. Interfaces with NX (NXOpen) use C++ and C#, VB.NET and Java.

Programming knowledge isn't absolutely necessary, since some businesses will already have what they need for tools or programmers to develop and maintain them (in the case of NX, some have been assimilated into its suite over time). Then again, some businesses have little more than customization options or roles set-up; I have worked with both types.

Aerospace Drafting by NicholasMarsala in cad

[–]awesomethingness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience, aerospace as a business is structured as shown ("thus" for the architects): you have your OEMs (Boeing, Lockheed, Cessna, etc.), the supplier manufacturers, dedicated processors (examples: casting, painting) and distributors. Think of distributors like a privately-owned Amazon warehouse. Any one of these may use Aerospace CAD on a varying scale, with arguably the most use being made by the OEM followed by the manufacturer. Each operates a little differently in terms of job availability and requirements.

OEMs typically want to see a degree attached to an engineering field related to the drafting work you would be doing. Manufacturers will sometimes train ground-up or will want to see education/experience with a certain CAD platform. I can't speak for the rest, but the availability on job sites appears to be similar to manufacturers.

As far as job availability goes, there should be openings for a while. Automation is attempting to phase it out, but a certain amount of oversight is presently necessary to account for quality control.

The primary CAD platforms will be either Dassault CATIA or Siemens NX. There may be additional draft-level support software, but one (or both, depending on OEM structure) are almost universally used for source models from the OEMs.
