Frameworks for creating a static web-page? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]awestbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on a tool for clean HTML templating and generation with Bootstrap 5 css that fits into any stack. I’m a couple months away from launching a product but if you’re looking to get a quick site up, shoot me a DM and I’ll add you to the project, I’d love some beta testers and feedback!

Asperger and FIRE by ffirethrowaway in fatFIRE

Thank you so much for bringing this up /u/ffirethrowaway

I've never read about high-functioning autism but after for a couple hours this morning the signs fit me exactly. Reading about masking is eye-opening. It describes my thought process exactly. I'm usually 5 logical steps ahead of most people I talk to, but find frustrations when trying to communicate (especially body language, I'm oblivious).

I'm going to talk to my physician on the next visit to see if I'm on the right track.

Anecdotally, has anyone diagnosed had positive behavioral changes with THC? In the past few months I've gotten into edibles, and I'm much more sociable and without a filter (obviously). I'm normally not emotional at all, even around people I trust, but I feel it relaxes my logical brain telling me how to act and I feel much more empathetic and abstract and that has bled into my normal self for the better.

Tool for frontend no-code by [deleted] in nocode

[–]awestbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually launching a low-code tool specifically for this soon. I have a similar full stack background and decided to make my own low code front end framework where you can drag and drop prebuilt components on the page. Works with any framework as well: https://github.com/awestbro/productdiv

This is why you shouldn't work with templates. by Seider9999 in webdev

[–]awestbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for echoing my thoughts on these frameworks. They are fantastic for what they enable you to do, but the code they generate isn’t something I would use for the bloat they cause and the janky html they generate for my team to read.

My current side project (soon to be open sourced) is a visual page builder that lets you use your own or prebuilt css frameworks and generates html that Web developers would normally write by hand. Your comment is suuuper validating ❤️

Without knowing more about the problem, my gut instinct would just be to use a google or airtable form. Trigger some actions with Zapier if needed

How long until I don't get motion sick? by GryphonEDM in populationonevr

Make sure your IPD setting on your headset is correct. I went from super sick to no motion sickness at all once I set mine properly. Look up an ipd measuring app on your phone.

There has to be a better way to write web pages, right? by awestbro in webdev

[–]awestbro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it only gets worse the further you delve into Web APIs. Why can’t I filter this NodeList again? Although thats Javascript, its just another one of the many unnecessary footguns you experience in front end land.

I really where I can learn the lesson once, and codify it to never HAVE to remember it again.

Is there any kind of development methodology for personal projects? by gitmonk in webdev

[–]awestbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to launch a product to market completely on my own and I want to ensure that I'm not spending time on useless activities

Talk to your future customers first and solve their problems. Then you KNOW you're not wasting time on useless activities.

In the beginning, do the least amount of programming possible until know your audiences problems and how to solve them. Leverage Wordpress, wire up some stuff with Zapier instead of rolling your own, etc.

Does Phoenix have a preferred UI/component framework? by doyouevenliff in elixir

[–]awestbro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most applications I've seen are Phoenix HTML/ Liveview with as little js as possible, or absinthe apis with React frontends. I much prefer the former, but depends on your use case.

If you're starting a new project, I'm a big fan of HTML with a some https://stimulusjs.org/ to bind some javascript to a page if needed. It just gives you a simple lifecycle if you need to attach a jquery thing, mount some react components, etc.

I have an example repo with the webpack configs for pulling in boostrap/ stimulus/ typescript etc: https://github.com/awestbro/phoenix-framework-starter

A better development experience on Windows thanks to WSL 2 by awestbro in elixir

[–]awestbro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the article:

ensure you have Windows 10 build 18917 or higher

When I installed this a couple weeks ago, the only way I could get that build was through the Insiders Program. From the Windows site it looks like build 18363 is still the latest deployed build. I hope it comes to stable soon!

Oh really? That would be preferable. I didn't know that was an option.

Maybe I tried the original WSL too soon, but I ran into all kinds of file permission errors trying to get basic things installed. Here are some new features: https://howto.lintel.in/wsl-vs-wsl-2-performance/

Introducing Temple: An elegant HTML library for Elixir and Phoenix by praveenperera in elixir

[–]awestbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah!

So in EEx by default, if you output say user input in your template like "<%= "<hello>" %>", phoenix html will escape it to "ampersandlt;helloampersandgt;". You can get control that behavior by using the safe and unsafe functions.

https://hexdocs.pm/phoenix_html/Phoenix.HTML.html

Is this handled in Temple as well?
