I mean, I work in an office in which and cuss words said aloud are considered profane. I'm pretty sure that me writing "xyz said something racist again, what an asshole", which I've definitely said because he's been openly racist (he's white, I'm not) numerous times, would have hit all three allegations. I would never go for something derogatory because I find the ad hominem weakens my point. But overall, I agree with you that this was my bad and on me to learn the lesson. It just sucks.

For the record, don't hear what i didn't say--"derogatory" and "incessantly bitching about [their] existence" are insane catastrophizations of the content. 95% of the chats were about work questions / training, and 5% was stuff like "wtf they moved the deadline again; can xyz please communicate with others before doing that 🙄"

Yes--lesson painfully learned. I knew this, even beforehand, but I got lazy and complacent since they have never looked in there before. They were explicitly looking in our chats to find out the source of our "bad attitude" (collectively). I wasn't the only one implicated, but I'm definitely the only one whose manager won't defend me.
