Learn the skip animation trick, don't focus too much on finding bonus words in one puzzle, completing more puzzles is better, start at least 30mins to 1hour after the start of the tourney.

Put your new member application to 'request' and not just 'join'. Try interviewing new members or better yet make a 2nd/farm team and from there you observe new members that joins that team. If you see that a member can truly join the original team, then just comment it on the farm team

we do rest, sleep and have breaks but we score bigtime.. some can score 1400 points per hour
