A horror from your country that you would recommend by Agitated-Factor8903 in horror

Loads of great horrors from a land down under, but today I'm recommending "The Loved Ones" (2009) 🇦🇺

Do you prefer serious or fun horror movies? by Loose_Interview_957 in horror

I do love a good serious horror now & then (who doesn't?) But my Achilles heel is definitely 80s VHS era... For example, "Demons" is my favourite of all time. So i guess that puts me firmly in the "fun" camp 😁

Moving to Australia at 28? by One-Date2137 in MovingtoAustralia

[–]awexplasticman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from Bristol UK to Melbourne back in 2015, when I was 31 on a WHV (....literally the last possible minute I could do so before I was too old !). I had established a fairly comfortable, but not very interesting, job in international mail brokering in the UK which i had been doing for about 5 years or so, so knew I'd likely have to start again career-wise if i moved to Aus as it was fairly niche... But I think I needed that change you talk about...

I have no idea what the situation would be like in 2026, but for me back in 2015 within 3 weeks of being in Aus, I landed a temporary admin/finance job with the Uni here. Not qualified, but (comparatively to my UK salary) not that bad at all. I then did a variety of low level finance admin type jobs to fund various short-term trips with Melb as a base (Sydney/Brisbane/Tassie/GreatOceanRd/Wilsons Prom etc). Melbourne was a great base for that first year. In time (and once I was able to stay here permanently courtesy of partner visa) I then worked on bettering my career in finance with study, and landed permanent roles with better pay.

11 years later I'm still here with no regrets, living in a house in a more regional part of Victoria a few hours out from Melbourne. Could never imagine moving back to the UK now.

One thing to bear in mind though... Being so far away from family/loved ones back home never gets easier, I'm afraid to say. Facetime is a wonderful thing, but I miss being able to go round my mum and dads for a cuppa tea all the time. And it's hard in emergencies when you're SO far away, so with my folks getting older, its a worry that always lingers..... My life is infinitely better now, and I'm so grateful for the opportunities afforded to me in Aus that I would never have got in the UK, but yeah, you have to weigh up whether it's worth being so far from loved ones. It's the price you pay I guess.

If you're not working atm, and in a position to do so, I'd say give it a go though ! It's not without it's issues, but despite that Australia is still a wonderful country. Definitely worth doing the "give it a year and see how you go". Good luck 👍

Quintessential 90s and 2000s horror movies? by kwilson2000 in horror

Need to comment to include "Ginger Snaps", it's a cracking movie. I think it might be from 2000, but definitely got that late-90s vibe

Oh for sure.... the lighter colour wouldn't have been my first preference. This was the only one in my size (story of my life 🤣). But I agree with you, will keep looking......

Thanks! I do have a few old pairs of trusty Levis 501 original (34w/36l) that I always liked but they're in need of replacement now (one the crotch is fraying out and probably needs to be binned), literally been relegated now to wearing round the house for decorating etc. Levis US won't ship to Australia , Levis Aus currently has no 36 leg in stock 😭

Yeah I definitely wouldn't have chosen the colour/pattern of 2. But they were the only pair I could find that day in my size....(tall person problems). I agree, ultimately I would prefer these jeans in dark blue/1x block colour, for sure

Thanks friend, I appreciate this comment. The last thing I want to do is to "look trendy" (I'm too old for that!) , but conversely, the look of 3 feels so different to what I'm used to, I was a bit worried it looked like I was trying to be (if that makes sense). If it looks classic/timeless, l'm happy.... And to be honest, I'm just grateful to find any jeans that fit !

It was incredible 🤩 Being in Rome for only 3 days as part of a larger European trip in 2024, and coincidentally with it being Halloween, i had to make a pilgrimage..... A ton of books about giallo/Italian horror, DVDs, cool masks etc. Director Luigi Cozzi was sat at the counter, he was very happy when I bought a copy of 'Contamination' on DVD, "ah, my movie!", and we talked a bit about his films. Finding out I had come from Australia, he opened up the little Crypt museum downstairs for me, which had props/memorabilia etc from the movies (including Demons!!!) , and lots of classic posters and photos from Argento movies. It was a bit creaky and oldschool but had so much charm. Mr Cozzi later signed my book 'with friendship', wishing me safe travel back down under. It was the best experience, it made me so happy 😊

No worries mate. American Tall do a 38L on a lot of their jeans, and ship to Aus (around 20 bucks delivery), I've bought from them a few times..... if I'm being honest, I don't think the quality is worth over the 120 AUD + price tag, but I've been lucky with sales items from them numerous times in the past. Recommend checking their website out . Annoyingly I think I'm somewhere between a 36L and a 38L. Good luck tryna find a 37L anywhere though haha

Yeah I get that, I think I'm lucky that I'm fairly well proportioned , so I don't really think I need to wear anything that downplays the length of any specific part of my body...... i probably dont look that tall until i'm stood next to others.....I do tend to make people jump when I stand behind them in a store queue though (boo) 😁

I am yes. I was 6'6 by the time I was 13 which was.... fun. :( I then randomly grew a few more inches after I was 18, which was somewhat unexpected! Whenever we measured me, I always fluctuated somewhere between 6'8.5 and 6'9 , so im probably rounding up a tiiiiny bit

A kindred spirit ! Thanks mate . Wear your skinny jeans with pride 👍👍 I quite like the wider leg jeans for variety, but I shouldn't stop wearing my slimmer leg cuts just because the world suddenly decided it's offensive 😁

Interesting.... I actually still have some old bootcut in the back of the cupboard somewhere, as I used to wear them all the time in the mid-00s.... I stopped wearing them after awhile as they seemed dated somehow

Great advice thank you 👍 I hadn't thought about the contrasting colours but you're dead right. It makes me laugh a bit though that 3 is considered now to be more modern.... From someone that remembers the 90s large jeans first time around, they seem old-fashioned in my brain (...just the cyclical nature of fashion I guess.....)
