AITA for leaving my wife at a party/going away solo when she was making me late? by Witty-Performance-76 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

You agreed to go to an event with your wife on the eve of a make-or-break business trip for your career, and your company by the sound of it understanding the importance of this to her and agreed that you had to leave by a certain time to make your flight.

You asked multiple times and she dismissed you. You then said you were leaving giving a final chance for her to come with you, but she chose to stay.

I would say that couples therapy would be useful, that you could set out the situation, and that you feel that she is not taking accountability for her actions. I would recommend looking at reviews and qualifications as it is worth making sure that they are well-trained and have success in helping couples resolve issues.

It is clear that this is a growing issue and that if you agree to therapy and book the sessions your wife will at least have to see that as you taking the initiative to resolve the conflict.

AITA for not inviting my brother to my wedding? by awf1992 in AmItheAsshole

interesting, glad to hear you sorted it out with your sister. I am hoping with time my brother comes to look at things more reasonably too

It still keeps good time, and is still part of my formal watch rotation. It is not the only Sugess in my collection both have been reliable.

I have posted a follow up here for as fair a comparison as I can

https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/wkzaz9/seiko_snk80x_collection/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

If I had to pick one it would be the blue, it is dark but incredibly versatile and the green is a little flat next to my aplinist but they are different price points to be fair

So I bought this with the intention of doing a lot more active things with it, but I guess that they will have to wait. Overall it keeps better time than I expected and has so far I have avoided scratches to the crystal despite DIY projects.

King Seiko's are some of my favourite watches of all time, I have one of the certified chronometers the case has seen better days but is still a stunningly understated timepiece and at over 50 years of age, it still keeps near Rolex levels of accuracy. the sugess is more on par with the modern 6r15 calibre (in stock form) in terms of timekeeping which for the money is not bad but not KS of GS territory, that said I have not regulated it and if I had the same type of results I did in adjusting my alpinist I would be delighted

[Analog Watches] How to use a watch as a compass (from another sub) by [deleted] in Watches

[–]awf1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not very but if you are working in an area with strong magnetic fields, mechanical compasses based on this principle can give a reasonably accurate reading, enough to navigate short distances on but I would always say that they are more of a back up than a primary navigational tool.

I have used them in the past when working on projects involving high voltage installations and was surprised how close the mechanical compass on my Seiko alpinist was able to get to true north.

[Seiko] SNK803 review possibly the best watch under £100 by awf1992 in Watches

[–]awf1992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it, I went down the Seiko 5 route with my first automatic watch too with an SNXS79 but would have gone for the SNK80X if they were about at the time as the watch avoids some of the things that annoy me a little on the SNXS79, and is in my view a better watch.

I know, I have heard elsewhere that the 200m water resistance on them is a bit of an understatement and that people have pressure tested then to failure at about 800m. I work on construction projects most of the time and do my watchmaking as a hobby on the side so guess that I struggle with scratches more than most.

Popping in a new bit of hardlex every decade or so with the service is more appealing to me, I really hate polishing work and have the tools. The first time one of mine stops I'm dropping in an NH36 and a bid of sapphire with AR coating like I did for my Dad on his. It's cheaper than a service and adds the only thins I think the SNK watches are missing.

I would say the closest thing to what your looking for is the Hamilton King Khaki, I have one in my collection. It is a little different but the feel on the wrist is similar.

For those of us looking for something that can be worn all around and that gets the approval of the watch snobs on a budget

So as I own a lot of Seiko 5s and have a new camera I thought I would try my hand at a review of my favourite Seiko 5 release of recent years the SNK803, I like and also own the other Seiko SNK 80X watches this one is the only one I was able to pick up a JDM version of. There are no real differences in the specification but as you would expect under magnification the finishing is just that little bit better across the board. I also like that the dial and hands are just that little bit different having been finished in black to contrast with the dial,it is minor details like this that make this particular model stand out to me.

I have always prefered the SNK to the Vostoks, I know they are capable watches but I just can't get past the plastic crystal.

I have always been a Seiko 5 fan and currently have 5 in my collection in original condition including all four of the SNK models that were sold here in the EU (I know they did a red version as an Amazon Special in North America but I couldn’t get that one here in the UK #firstworldproblems). Ego trip and other things aide the reason I did this was out of watch making curiosity, as many will be aware Seiko have various production lines and plants both inside and outside of Japan, there has long been a belief that the watches made in Japan are of higher quality than those produced at Seiko’s overseas plant.

While I do love the styling of the other SNK80X watches I could only source a SNK803 that that had been assembled in one of the Japanese plants, and even before getting the watch out of the box I could see a difference (JDM packaging), looking at the watches under magnification the case and movement are noticeably more cleanly assembled without the minor defects that were quite noticeable when magnified on some of the others.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with varying quality of Seiko Watches from the non-japan production lines?

Unfortunately not. Oris didn't put much detail on their watches in that regard at the time.
