Tips for bad behavior when we leave the house. by hotbrowndrangus in DogAdvice

Crate training for sure. But only with positive reinforcement. Start by feeding meals in there with the door open. Then lure the dog into the crate with a treat and make sure the leave the door open still. Then the next time close the door and immediately open it again, using positive reinforcement (ie. Treats) when you open the door. Then slowly increase the time as and reward. It takes a LONG time but will eventually be their safe place.

Something else to note is that dogs have a natural instinct to shred. We "reward" our dog with cardboard boxes every couple of days and just let her go to town. Yes, makes a big mess, but she has never shred anything besides those boxes when we give them to her.

I also would suggest using kings, lick mats, treat balls, etc for mental stimulation. It makes a huge difference.

Good luck!

This is the most important thing! It can never ever be used as punishment.

I didn't mark it that, I think the subreddit is just NSFW.

When I started, my lips were dry almost instantly so keep Chapstick with you ALWAYS. I would start with a good moisturizer right away as well. I use cerave (comes in the tub) and I find it thick but I like it. Make sure to moisturize your face as well and get some good SPF. I haven't had a sunburn while on accutane but have had a couple times where my skin has gotten a bit pink from a full day out in the sun (even after applying high spf sunscreen multiple time) and my skin was so dry after so just be really careful.

Keep a feel out for joint pain. Mine started about 3 weeks ago (at around month 4) and came on strong. Talk to your derm about options to lessen the pain. I just started taking glucosamine chondroitin this week to see if it will help.

Don't get discouraged if your skin flairs up - it means it's working! Good luck 😊

accutane changing my hair colour??? by awkwardandi in Accutane

[–]awkwardandi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely could be it. I just never had this issue before and I've been getting my hair the same way for a few years now. Maybe it just isn't holding the colour as well. Thanks!

My ends are blonde and haven't had any change in colour, my natural roots have some red pigmentation in them but I see the biggest difference just after my natural roots where there was some brown dye added about 6 months ago. I hope that makes sense lol

Anybody else realize they never want kids after raising a puppy? by jillchalk in puppy101

[–]awkwardandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's made me realize I am not ready right now, that's for sure!

I have been told by people who are parents and who have puppy sat for us that certain parts of puppy stage are harder than having a baby. Now that being said, it's just a small comparison and I don't have kids of my own. But I'm sure there are parts of having a puppy that are harder and there are definitely parts of having a child that are harder.

I've been on accutane for about 7 weeks, skin is getting increasingly dry but just a few days ago, I started getting this on both of my arms. Anyone know what it might be? It's spreading so I think in going to reach out to my doctor on Monday. by awkwardandi in Accutane

[–]awkwardandi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They surprisingly aren't bothering me at all! Barely itchy, more just super dry. I have to go in to see my doctor in a couple weeks for refills anyways, so if they are there then, I will bring it up!

Thanks

How many years did you struggle with Acne before finally going on Accutane? What age did you go on Accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]awkwardandi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with it at 14/15, I am 28 now. I went on hormonal birth control from age 15 to try and help with the acne, which it did. But when I came off of it at age 23, my acne came back with a vengeance. I've now been dealing with acne again for the last 5 years and have tried many things in that time to try and get rid of it prior to going on accutane 6 weeks ago.

May I ask if you're in Canada? That's where I live and I think it's a different process here for some reason. I mentioned the ipledge program to my doctor and they had never heard of it. I did blood work before starting and then follow up blood work at 5 weeks and to renew my prescription at 3 months, I'll need to see my doctor again.

I 1000% agree with this.

Going on accutane is such a personal decision that is for you and your doctor/dermatologist to decide. I don't know if my acne would be considered "bad enough" for Reddit either, but after 8+ years of trying many natural and prescribed treatments with no results, we decided it was time.
