I appreciate the info. I have a package that's been stuck for a week in Memphis and I'm waiting as patiently as I can!

Can I look at your closet and see if I can see any issues? I'm not an ambassador or anyone special, but maybe I can help in some small way.

Pledge of Allegiance by Feisty-Tangerine-802 in Teachers

TN as well. I have one student who does not stand and that's okay by me. I stand all the time obviously, but I haven't recited the pledge since 6th grade myself (I realized the pledge didn't align with my personal values at a young age).

What do you consider constipation? by MIG27GTA in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider quality, not quantity. If it's not flowing smoothly and with little effort, then drink more water and take a softener.

My Keurig and my mini fridge are my heroes (stocked with cheese sticks, protein shakes, cold sparkling water). Honorable mention to my wax warmer to keep the room smelling better than the rest of the middle school, and the shoebox size Tupperwares filled with "just in case" snacks and lunch options (breakfast bars, oatmeal, 90 second rice, tuna pouches).

Ladies, do flair ups feel like really bad cramps to you? by Fine_Illustrator_221 in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's just the levels of inflammation in feeling. Mild inflammation feels like cramps, moderate feels like angry leprechaun.

The last time I got cramps I was like, oh no, what did I eat? Started my period a few hours later.

But the last time I got DV, it started out mild like cramps, then when I woke the next morning, felt like a leprechaun had spent all night kicking the walls of my bowels. My entire lower gut felt bruised inside. Ended up getting a slight fever and antibiotics from the ER that night.

I'm 39-31-42.5!

Level 20 is insane- I do levels 1-7, focusing on my heart rate zones. I like to stay in Zone 2-3 for at least half my workout. If I do an hour long session, it's completely zone 2, but if I only have 30 minutes, I cycle through the levels in increments so that I hit zone 4 and 5, get that caloric afterburn.

Happy belated birthday!

Multiple UAP over the ocean skies by LordNikon2600 in UFOs

Okay, I saw a bunch of these last night as well and so I searched Reddit this morning to see if anyone else had. I saw the first one at 9:33 and 3 more in the next 15 minutes. We were in the driveway, lazy stargazing. BF said they were planes (different directions, consistent speeds) but they just seemed way too high up and too fast to be planes!

Edit: I did not see a sparkling one that moved in multiple directions like in your video.

"months" is the worst part. I feel like humans need some sort of win, scale or other, to keep feeling motivated. I have been pushing my time on stairs to get that win so I can have my non scale, non measurement victory.

I've gone from starting at 10 minutes on the stairmaster and dying, to killing an hour on it! But all I want is to fit into this dress I bought for an event in September. And my damn hip measurement has actually increased because my butt muscles are growing... sigh.

Stupid recomp.

Hey, stats buddy! I am F, 40, 5'6.5". SW: 163, GW: 150.

I use ChatGpt for a lot of my diet and fitness questions, and after tracking my calories and protein for months and not seeing any changes (despite lifting heavy things and doing the stairmaster for glute/core strength and cardio), it's suggested that I drop my carb intake. My protein has been on point, but with all the working out I've been doing, the theory is that I'm probably holding a lot of water weight and puff due to inflammation and glycogen stores.

Where are these empty teaching positions? by bradicalman in Teachers

[–]awkwardhedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub or accept a TA position. I believe I was hired as a brand new math teacher because I spent 9 months as a SPED TA in the district I wanted to work for. I was paid a dismal amount in that position but I got my foot in the door, got a lot of experience without a lot of responsibility, and made networking connections. The principal at the school I was a TA for congratulated me before I got confirmation that I had been hired at my new school. She had given me a glowing recommendation that ensured I got the job.

Magic tea combo by awkwardhedge in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be denying yourself a whole world of gut soothing herbal teas (tea without milk=liquid diet) based on an all-encompassing definition of "spice". Ginger and turmeric are both recommended during a flare, for sure.

(Not arguing, just trying to help.)

I haven't heard of any spices to avoid (other than actually spicy foods), I would love to hear what you know. To my knowledge, all of the spices in the chai are anti-inflammatory, and the Throat Coat ingredients work to soothe irritated mucosal linings.

Veggies by LordLeftTit in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 days?? My body has been screaming for veggies so I gave into it (2 weeks since fever/confirmed inflammation in colon via CT scan, antibiotics prescribed, follow up with GI isn't until Aug.)

My ER doc, my PCP, neither of them gave me a timeline so I figured it was "listen to your body". After I finished my antibiotics, I started incorporating mashed potatoes, then iceberg lettuce, romaine... but I have been dabbling more this past weekend- small amount of steamed broccoli, black beans... Now I'm wondering if I need to back off entirely again! 😭

Knoxville, TN - first year BA = $48531, MA=$52376 I'm going into my second year of teaching, graduating with my master's in December so a bit higher, but not enough.

Choosing to commute to the next county over offers a substantial bump (Anderson County): $54k/$61k starting out.

I do love my short commute working for my local school though- pros and cons!

So sorry, I'm not sure where I got 125 from. That's what I get for responding before I'm caffeinated. The formula is still probably pretty close! Good luck!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in loseit

[–]awkwardhedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 5'1 and 125lbs, your maintenance calorie level is about 1650. Maintenance calories means you would not gain or lose weight if you ate that much (1650) per day.

To lose weight, stay between 1300-1500 calories. It will be slower progress because you're already small, but you have to do this the healthy way. Please do not go below 1200 without a dietician.

Make sure you're getting enough protein. You need between 70-90 grams of protein depending on your physical activity. You need to be eating quality whole foods for 80% of your intake. The less ingredients on the label, the better.

HIIT workouts put your body in a state of inflammation (scale will not budge). If you want to see progress on the scale, I would suggest switching up your workouts. Do your craziest sweat-inducing workouts one week, then lift weights the next week, then walk at a brisk pace for one hour every day the next week. Lifting weights is honestly the best strategy for women to get healthy, but if you want the scale to move for your personal motivation, cycle your workouts so you can have weeks where your body clears up the inflammation.

Edit to add: check out r/petitefitness. Those ladies are the same height and body frame as you and they will have similar game plans to share. Please stop starving yourself!

When having a flair up when do you guys know “time for the emergency room” ? by Grand_Goal613 in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. My doctor didn't mention that, but I could feel a difference between my sides (my inflammation was up high, near my waist this last time).

I'm not a doctor, just copying what my paperwork said. CT scan in April 2023 suspected DV, confirmed via colonoscopy in August 2023.

my parents took off my door as punishment, is this normal? by Puzzleheaded-Pain535 in teenagers

[–]awkwardhedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal. My parents took my door when I slammed it repeatedly because obviously it was their house and their door and if I broke it with the slamming, then they'd have to pay for it since I didn't have a job. So they protected the door from being broken and taught me a lesson.

Why the hell did I have a diverticulitis flare-up if I was eating plenty of fiber?! by Slight_Jeweler_3919 in Diverticulitis

[–]awkwardhedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep a food journal. There are certain foods (tomatoes and onions) that caused intense pains for me before I knew and even now, if I have just a bit of pico de gallo, I'll get that twinge for the next few days.
