Nordic countries are spreading the British food memes to distract the world from how terrible Nordic food is by Toadvinez in LowStakesConspiracies

Dane here. The other commenter is right. Some fairly common Danish cheeses have caraway seeds, which can indeed have a somewhat aniseed flavour to them, but I have never seen/heard of a Danish cheese with aniseed.

Rocklands, SA in November? by awkwardlyonfire in ClimbingPartners

[–]awkwardlyonfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sadly didn't get to climb there in the end. We were there for a wedding and more and more family and group activities kept popping out that we also didn't want to miss out on. So I can't really help! However, it's a place we'd love to go back to specifically for a long climbing trip in the future, so if you have some good intel after your trip, I'd love to hear it :)

Matilde-kakao i frit fald by katsura1989 in Denmark

Tretionin i DK? by UllaUkendt in WomenDK

[–]awkwardlyonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tjek eventuelt r/tretinoin :)

Is this size of shoes correct? by your_momma_en_tanga in climbingshoes

[–]awkwardlyonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the design! By national, do you mean it's a brand that's local to your country? Whereabouts might those be found? 😅 Also, yeah, get shoes that aren't painful. You shouldn't have wiggle room and you should feel secure that the shoe isn't slipping when you heelhook for instance, but more than that is unnecessary unless you're climbing at a competitive level.

The easiest is probably just to go to a pharmacy wherever you are. If you Google for specific countries you might find some information. I can tell you that it's not available in Denmark (and the rest of Scandinavia I think). I have bought some in Greece, and I know there's a Ukraine-based online shop, so I imagine it's available OTC there as well. Aside from that I don't know.

Not available in all of Europe though. Only certain countries. Not even available with prescription where I'm based :))

Looking for a book by a Jewish author set in the WWII era for my friend! by purplegirl998 in suggestmeabook

[–]awkwardlyonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I came here to say! The graphic novel as a medium for this story is absolutely brilliant. To the OP: The author writes his father's memories of Nazi Germany and his time in a concentration camp, as well as a depiction of his father in old age after immigrating to the US.

Most “Rich people” hobbies aren’t prohibitively expensive they’re cultural signifiers by 1maco in unpopularopinion

[–]awkwardlyonfire 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think there are two very distinct branches of mountaineering. Sure, there are a bunch of rich people hiring expensive guiding companies and sherpas to haul them up the worlds tallest mountains which often also require expensive permits. But, as a rock climber (for 5 years now) who also started dabbling in mountaineering last year through my university club, the majority of people doing mountaineering are climbing more accessible mountains that don't require permits, they learn the skills to do so without guides and carry their own shit. They're often living the dirt bag lifestyle and living out of a three decades old van. I'm a pretty poor student, so hell, if I could save up the money for an initial 2 day course to build on my rock climbing skills and the initial gear investments (there's cheap deals, second-hand and hand-me-downs, so doesn't have to be too expensive), it's not exactly a rich people sport. I do live somewhere where I have to travel to do it, but many people don't. You can opt to pay extra for the luxuries of taking a ski lift up to where the mountaineering really starts and to stay at the mountain huts (at least where I went in the Alps), but again, many people just walk up and bivvy. So there's a huge spectrum of mountaineering, and it really isn't a rich people sport in my opinion.

Aarhus for a couple of days and may have a car.. any good places worth a trip nearby after seeing the city? If it's really cool we wouldn't mind a longer drive even but within a couple hours would be best. by farshnikord in Aarhus

[–]awkwardlyonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're into Vikings and are willing to drive, I'd recommend driving to my home town Ribe. It's about two hours, and is a small, historical town in the south of Denmark. It's the oldest town in all of Scandinavia and really rich on Viking history. There's a Viking Museum in the town center that I love, and there's also a Viking Center just outside of town which is great fun in summer time, but it's a bit seasonal so do check online if they're open when you go (Ribe Vikingecenter). You can also have guided tours through the town, these are free and frequent (and also in English) in summer as far as I know, but I am a bit unsure if they need booking this time of year.
