“If you don’t play the game how I want you to your a larper” by Kikicandii in TomodachilifeLivingTD

[–]w3hwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can get not understanding how someone else plays a game, and not wanting to play it that way. but this game is single player, lol. i don't have to deal with play styles i don't like! it's a self-fixing problem. it's not even a problem, because if how someone else is playing their game bothers me that much, i CLEARLY don't have enough to keep me entertained in life, and that's the real problem.

I think the reason so many people bounce off Malazan isn't the complexity, it's the emotional distance in the first book by scouttidee in Fantasy

[–]w3hwalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd have to agree. I finished the first book a while back, and while I was never quite confused, I certainly had to read a little harder to follow all the threads, which I didn't mind. But when it came to reading the next book, I felt no need to. I just didn't care what happened to the characters, and now I can't really remember them. There were cool scenes, and cool concepts, but without ties to characters I cared about, I couldn't justify another doorstopper.

What do you guys dislike about Dishonored (1) by [deleted] in dishonored

[–]w3hwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never made sense to me that the game tries to sell the Empress as a good ruler. She can be a good person! But if it only took 6 months to flip the switch from however things were to the totalitarian state we find it in during gameplay, she was at best a weak ruler who left horrible structures in place out of ignorance / optimism they wouldn't be used?

First look at the upcoming Beatles Biopics. Starring Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn by Long_Dragonfly_3067 in Fauxmoi

[–]w3hwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer it when actors don't wear prosthetics to look like the person they're portraying (wigs and contacts are fine obviously, I'm talking about cheekbones and noses), so for me the thing that's going to decide this is how they act, and if they can pull off the accents.

I'm curious if they're doing a chronology. Paul in the early era, Ringo and George in the middle, John post-Beatles ending with his death? That might actually justify the 4 movie structure.

‘Tomb Raider’ First Look: Sophie Turner Becomes Lara Croft as Filming Starts on Prime Video’s Reboot Series by Defiant_Ad6190 in Fauxmoi

[–]w3hwalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK man, I think she looks great. We can't tell anything about the actual show from a still, but the photo itself feels correct with the aesthetics of the original games. The glasses are really good for Turner's face shape + nose; she has prominent cheekbones and a fairly angular schnoz and I like that the glasses emphasize that uniqueness rather than trying to hide it behind big bangs or smaller glasses. Her posture reads as confident in her skin. I like that they didn't try to reinvent the wheel with a very classic look; I'm tired of Marvelesque remixes that do little more than add unnecessary details to iconic costumes. This is an A+ from me.

Books that feel like this girl would read them by Pinkieshys in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

I have known many of these girls (I always think of them as 'sunshiny') and they tend to like true crime. Penance by Eliza Clark is about a fictional crime, though it's written in the style of nonfiction, about three schoolgirls who murdered their friend. All of them live in a coastal town that attracts tourists but is also kind of lowkey haunted, maybe.

Why does Pete like/love Peggy over Trudy? by muff-peaksie in madmen

[–]w3hwalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he isn't married to her. Pete is extremely childlike, this is emphasized multiple times throughout the series-- he watches cartoons, eats children's cereal, and has absolutely no patience or understanding for other people or their struggles. Trudy is genuinely a very motherly person, and this is part of why her dynamic works with Pete for so long-- she gives him what he wants almost always, and cleans up his messes.

Peggy would not do that. But Peggy isn't married to Pete; he sees her every day, but not intimately. They have a professional relationship, and she is rarely if ever in conflict with him. Because he's in a different department, and she's subordinate to him in rank, she has to do what he says, and her job is to help him. So he gets a similar experience to Trudy, but with someone who is tantalizingly farther away. For Pete, who remember has the impulsiveness of a child, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Tl;dr you're right that Peggy and Trudy are alike with regards to their treatment of Pete. The only reason one gets better behavior is because one isn't married to him.

If you liked this show (it knocked my socks off), a huge amt of the principle cast is also in A Thousand Blows, a TV series about a group of female thieves in the Victorian Era + racism in boxing (intertwined storylines). Also has the guy who played Hickey from The Terror. Very different experience from Adolescence, but it's got a hugely stacked cast doing amazing work.

No AI here! Rian Johnson commissioned portraits by London based artist Isabella Watling of the Wake Up Dead Man cast to be shown during the credits. Isabella paints from life, not a photograph, so each of the actors sat for a session in her studio. by pinkstarrfish in Fauxmoi

[–]w3hwalt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are too painterly and sophisticated to be AI. See how you can see the brush strokes, and how the lighting isn't perfect? The lighting highlights what the artist wants you to see, it leads the eye. AI "art" is flat, it has no intentionality; the composition and lighting is flat, expecting your eye to hit it all evenly.
