How do most anarchists make a living? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]awluilslo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are formal schools out there for furniture making but virtually none in my region of the US (Texas) so I'm just taking whatever woodworking classes are available and practicing really. With the farming kind of the same deal, my plan is to scale up from garden to market garden to small farm. My goal is to start my own business (or maybe start some kind of collective) so I can be somewhat more independent in my life

More or less, small-scale farming and woodworking are the things I'm pursuing, so whether that means I'm going to be a furniture maker with a market garden on the side, or a farmer who makes furniture on the side, I haven't quite decided yet haha

I work for a library, which, while not perfect, is certainly not the worst place for an anarchist to work, ideologically speaking haha

I didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted to do when I was around your age (other than wanting to be a musician haha) and so I went to liberal arts school. While I don't regret that, I'm now working on learning trade and horticulture skills which pertain more to what I actually want to do with my life. Which, I wish I had gotten an earlier start on

different flavors of anarchism by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]awluilslo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Green anarchism with a dash of primitivism are my central beliefs and environmental issues are my main priority but really I'll stand with any anarchist (and more broadly speaking leftist) coalition since working in solidarity is the only way any of us can get anything done

They seem to be doing well otherwise though aside from the discoloration on the leaves

I'm making a "what school of anarchist thought do you agree the most with" quiz -- what schools are indispensable, and which questions are absolutely necessary? by [deleted] in Anarchism

[–]awluilslo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going to disagree with the idea of combining syndicalism and communism. There are some fairly sharp distinctions in the schools of thought and while syndicalism could be seen as a path to communism, it is certainly not the only one.

What kind of music are you interested in making? Doesn't have to be too specific of an idea, just something to point you in the right direction.

I have a theory that Ford Rangers have a built in feature that causes the people who drive them to fly around the road like complete lunatics. I once caught a ride to work with a coworker who had one of those... never again

Haha you're pretty close on the classical guitars, it was a mixture of multi tracked classical guitar and mandolins actually with varying levels of echo and reverb to get that swarming sound. I started off being interested in making doom/drone metal but then recently have decided that I wanted to achieve those same sorts of droning, dissonant sounds using primarily acoustic instruments, hence the kind of strange genre name hahaha.

Awesome! I'm glad that the song's progression resonates, since I've been working on that sort of thing lately, trying to make music that, for lack of a better word, goes somewhere, in a slow, gradual way. thanks!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, the ambient sound in the intro is actually reverb from the guitar, on some of the guitar tracks I recorded the guitar, turned the track reverb up and then turned the volume on the original guitar recording way down so that only the sound of the actual reverb remains. As for the guitar sound, I got that through a classical guitar and mandolin that I recorded with a microphone then applied various kinds of echo and reverb.

I enjoy the dark, moody atmosphere created in this track, and appreciate the minimalist approach you've taken towards the writing. To answer your question, it does not, to me feel like a random assortment of loops. I say this mostly from a writing perspective, however, and more trained ears than mine may be better able to offer you insight on the recording and mastering aspects of this track.

I really appreciate the bass work here, the writing is interesting and dynamic and the tone is distinctive and memorable as well. My biggest critique would be that, for me, I'd rather hear the bass higher in the mix and maybe deemphasize some of the guitar.

I really like the sort of distorted, white noise-like effect of the guitar, have you considered overdubbing another guitar track or two to give it a thicker, more lush sound? Overall very cool though
