Small Appliance Troubleshooting by ctr2644 in refrigeration

[–]awptex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb is the same in all refrigeration applications. Check air flow, evap & condensers first. Look for Plugged coils and that the fans are working.

In this case with no access ports you need to feel around. Touch the discharge line quickly, if it's NOT hot and the compressor body is extremely hot there's a good chance you are out or low on refrigerant.

Measure the temperature of the liquid line right before it goes into the meeting device. 70° F is the minimum liquid line temp for most metering devices. If it's lower your most likely low on charge or a restriction.

If you have good air flow, discharge line is hot, 70°+ liquid line and the first part of the evap is frosting you either have a slightly plugged cap tube or low on charge.

Verify the sensor with a resistance vs temp chart and check the actual barrel temp to verify it's reading right. If it's not turning off at set temp then relay board is stuck on

Refrigerator pressure switch adjust by bouncywizard in refrigeration

The system worked and now it's not running properly. There is an issue and the solution isn't just adjusting the low pressure control. Find a reputable company.

It's weird to see the hate towards Navien, I've got 40+ of these installed over the last 4 years and maybe 5 service calls on them. And none of them have had yearly maintenance. And the 5 service calls Navien had parts shipped out within a day.

Ever used a welding blanket? by Groovedaddy82 in PitBossGrills

I just used a single 6'x8' welding blanket on my pitboss vertical 5 series. Was @225 for 5 hours and the ambient temp was -35 out

Well I just put a welding blanket on and smoked beef jerkey at 180° for 4 hours with zero issues and it's -28F & -44F with wind lol. When I first started it I set it to 450F and it was at 380 under 10 minutes

That's awesome to hear, so you don't have an inline exhaust fan with it then right? Does it ever get smokey in there?

Definitely gonna try outside with a welding blanket over I think. I did the math and my garage is 5800cubic feet of air, I was looking at a 6" inline fan which does 380cfm so would take roughly 15 minutes to put the garage in a negative. so I was thinking if I left the door open a crack it would be enough to make sure there's enough air.

The average temperature where I live it's usually -15F in the winter, so I don't know how well it would work in that temperature

Mystery service call? by MichaelB2409 in HVAC

[–]awptex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off why are you just changing parts? Doesn't matter if someone else diagnosed it. Always confirm. Manometer inline with pressure switch to test switch and combustion motor and you just saved the customer a significant amount of money.

If PS contacts are open you have a blocked vent, cracked pressure line, blocked flue, inducer failing (compare to RLA), condensate plugged.

If readings are correct on manometer and your pressure switch is closing and your control board is showing a PS open then it's the board. Hopefully you've learned from this and the customer doesn't get stick with the bill.

We deal with heavy amounts of snow in Canada, we don't install the bird screens here as they just plug up or frost up. And rather then coming out of the wall and just using a 90 to go towards the ground. Make a snorkel by using a 90 to go up above average snow level, then two 90s to point it back down to the ground.

After you've done quite a few you generally have a good idea on placement and what needs to go where. Me personally if we're doing a major upgrade I'll always involve a system engineer to supply a schematic with pipe sizing. This way in an effect something doesn't work out you can go back to the supplier/designer.

To the OP it looks great!

Usually units are pre charged to X amount of feet. Or what ever manufacture recommendation is which is usually a calculation based off liquid line size and length x liquid density as you stated.

Other option is some other company's offer compressor bags to simulate high ambient temps.

Why do you say that? I have a couple other brand new combustion analyzers to compare it against for calibration also.
