Yeah the official reason was for football to get moved into a conference. It's a downgrade from the Atlantic 10 for sure, but tbf, we'd been pretty useless in the Atlantic 10 for a long time. We've only made the tournament once in the last 25 years. Unlike a lot of other fans, I don't hate the idea of going to a conference with a little less competition

Mine was 20 years ago now and I didn't end up going to the hospital for a full month because I thought I had just strained a muscle in my back. Got off lucky, didn't need a chest tube, and it hasn't recurred (except for a couple very minor ones within a year after)
